Good Morning. It’s Monday, March 24, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing. NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution sold the 30m original version of Deal or No Deal for national syndication in more than 95% of the U.S. to begin this fall. The show will contain the same elements such as the banker, models and Howie Mandel as the daytimer’s host. Endemol USA who produces the primetime edition, will also produce the daytime version. The game show was sold to the NBC Local Media stations including WNBC/NY, KNBC/LA and WMAQ/Chicago, in addition to stations from such television groups as CBS, Sinclair, Gannett, Fox, Post-Newsweek, Lin, Hearst-Argyle, Dispatch, Media General, Local TV, Allbritton, Scripps Howard and Raycom among others. Tonight’s Premieres: Characters Rule. 2007 Marked USA Network’s BEST YEAR EVER!

CBS told producers on the drama Jericho last Thursday that the show’s final episode will air this Tuesday night. Even with fan support that resurrected the series after CBS’ first cancellation last year, Jericho’s second season ratings were less than the first, averaging a 1.9 A18-49 rating on Tuesdays at 10p. CBS shot two endings for the series and has decided to air the one that will offer fans more resolution of the current season storyline, rather than a cliffhanger. A portion of the statement released by CBS said, “We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We’re proud of everyone’s efforts.” Tribune-owned KSWB, the long-standing WB and now The CW affiliate, will switch its affiliation at the end of August 2008 to Fox, reports B&C. Added to the schedule, aside of course from all the Fox programming, will be a handful of hours of local news. KSWB currently airs two newscasts daily – a morning show produced by KTLA/LA and simulcast on KSWB, and an evening news produced by KNSD/San Diego. The station losing the local market Fox affiliation is XETV, which is actually situated in Tijuana, Mexico, and owned by Grupo Televisa. What will happen with The CW affiliation has not been announced. If you were happily planted on your couch yesterday watching the World Golf Championships-CA Championship on NBC and know that as a result of several rain delays, the final play was called yesterday on account of darkness with no clear winner yet … take heart. The Golf Channel will begin airing live coverage of the rest of the final round this morning at 830am (primetime re-play at 8pm). And that then pushes back Golf’s coverage of the Tavistock Cup to 130p today. A-Team … the movie? Yep — set to be released on June 12, 2009. No cast announcements yet. The film will be scripted by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, and directed by John Singleton. Weekend Box Office Estimates: Mar 21-23, 2008

Jenny Garth was cast as the female lead for a new CBS pilot My Best Friend’s Girl produced by Sony which also stars Eric Ladin, says THR. The pilot is about two guys who are best friends and co-owners of a motorcycle shop and things get shaky when one starts to date the other’s ex-wife (Garth). Ladin portrays a salesman who works in the shop. ~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~
CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: CBS‘ re-cancellation of Jericho is being held up as more proof that internet popularity does not necessarily translate into on-air success. The show made headlines last year when the network heeded to non-stop pressure waged by hardcore fans on chat groups and fans sites, culminating with thousands of bags of peanuts being mailed to network executives. Ratings of the show have steadily declined after it kicked off its second season with 7.2 million viewers in February, during the originals-depleted Writers Strike. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL. (Or to listen to the Cynopsis Digital Podcast click here or subscribe to it at iTunes here .) CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Brian d’Arcy James has been cast as Shrek, in Broadway’s Shrek the Musical, based on DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek movies, which in turn is based on William Steig’s book Shrek. Directed by Jason Moore, best known for his director of Avenue Q, Shrek the Musical features music by Jeanine Tesori and book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Also joining the cast of the show are Chester Gregory II, he’ll play Donkey, and John Tartaglia as Pinocchio. The cast also includes the previously announced Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad and Kecia Lewis-Evans as the Dragon. Shrek the Musical opens December 14, 2008. Full edition: CYN KIDS. Is Azteca America on your radar screen?
CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: LA and Dusseldorf-based Duo Entertainment has been bought by Germany’s Entertainment Value Associates (EVA) movie rights group, a subsidiary of Odeon Film AG. The licensing/distribution company deals with TV and feature film products’ global rights (i.e., Crash and new 8-episode ZOS – Zone of Separation). Kai-Roger Gruneke, EVA’s CEO, will take over DUO CEO duties from topper Philip von Alvensleben. Philip’s new role has not yet been defined. Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL. ~ RATINGS ~
