Good morning. It’s Monday, June 9, 2008, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Monster Buster Club (52 episodes), the new 3D animated series, premieres on Toon Disney’s Jetix block tonight at 7p. Targeted to K6-11, and sporting a budget of $21 million, Monster Buster Club is a co-production between Marathon Media, TF1 (France), Jetix Europe and YTV (Canada). The series is the first 3D from Marathon Media, which also plans to launch www.monsterbusterclub.tv, a virtual world where viewers can interact with content and 3D videos. Additionally, Toon Disney also plans to include the characters from the new series in forthcoming public service announcements.
Fluffy Gardens (40×7), the 2D cel animated preschool property heads to Korea as Target Entertainment inks new broadcast and licensing deals. EBS (Korea) signs on as a broadcaster for the series, and Asiana signs on as a sub agent to create a licensing program for the property in Korea. The series was created/written/directed by Jason Tammemagi from Ireland’s Monster Animation & Design. Target Entertainment handles the TV, global licensing and home video rights.
The Imp, the animated series, premiered on Canal+Family (France) over the weekend, where it will air daily at 1:05p. Canal + has acquired all rights in France, including free and pay TV, VOD and mobile rights for the TV series distributed globally by BRB Internacional. Produced in HD3D, The IM is a co-production between Red Kite Animations, Screen 21 and TVC.
International Producers Group (IPG) is named as the worldwide sales agent, for both broadcasting and licensing, for Andy’s Airplanes LLC’s new CGI animated property Andy’s Airplanes. Targeted to K2-8, Andy’s Airplanes revolves around 8-yr-old Andy and his co-pilot, Yaygrr the ferret, as they fly around the world on adventures and still make it home in time for dinner. IPG plans to showcase the series at Mipcom Jr. and Mipcom this fall.
MARKETING/LICENSING
It’s a triple for trouble-making twins Edgar and Ellen. US-based Star Farm Productions enters into a multi-category licensing pact with Telescreen (the Benelux), as well as a DVD partnership with Madman Entertainment (Australia). Additionally, through Cake Entertainment, KTV (Africa) acquires the Edgar and Ellen series and specials for broadcast in South Africa and 16 other southern African countries. The Edgar & Ellen animated series is produced in association with YTV and Bardel Entertainment, and the duo also stars in the Edgar and Ellen book series from publisher Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing.
Every Baby Company and Sterling Publishing Co., Inc. enter into a five-year co-venture pact to publish a series of baby and toddler aimed books (cloth, board, and bath books) based on the multi-platform property eebee’s adventures. Under the deal the first five eebee’s adventures book titles ($14.95 each) will be available from July 2008.
NCircle Entertainment enters into a five-year North American home entertainment distribution pact with Cake Distribution. Under the deal NCircle holds the DVD and digital rights to the animated series Skunk Fu! and the preschool animated series Tiny Planets. Two Skunk Fu! DVD titles, The Art of Rivalry and The Art of Monkey Launching, and the Tiny Planet’s Bing Bong Bell DVD are slated for release in December 2008.
Cookie Jar Entertainment will release of a Magi-Nation Trading Card Game later this year with 3 Point Entertainment, a distributor games and collectibles. The Magi-Nation animated TV series and online role-play game will be further supported this year by a new line of Magi-Nation themed consumer products, which will include DVDs and a new Nintendo DS video game. NCircle has signed on as the US home video distributor for Magi-Nation and will release the first two titles in September 2008.
Access Licensing Group inks a first wave North American licensee deals for Pucca, the various products will begin rolling out in fall 2008: Mighty Fine (Juniors apparel), United Colors of Benetton (Tweens apparel), Fifth Sun (Juniors apparel), Global Design Concepts (Bags), Berkshire (Headwear, hosiery), Weisner (Footwear), NTD (Tweens, Teens and Juniors apparel in Canada) and Fab Starpoint (Stationery).
Brash Entertainment is teaming up with Six Flags Inc. to developed Six Flags Fun Park; a new family-aimed video game based on the Six Flags theme parks. Set in a virtual theme park, Six Flags Fun Park will feature 40 park attraction themed mini-games. The title is slated for release in North America this fall 2008, when it will be available for PlayStation 2, Wii and Nintendo DS. The game isn’t rated yet.

GoFish Corporation names Matt Freeman, former Founder and CEO of Tribal DDB Worldwide, as CEO and a member of its Board of Directors. He replaces Michael Downing who is exiting the company. Prior to Tribal DDB, Freeman served as Executive Creative Director Modem Media/Poppe Tyson (which was acquired by Digitas, inc., and is now a unit of Publicis group), and before that as Partner, Executive Creative Director at Poppe Tyson (previously a unit of True North, and now Interpublic Group).
Rogar Live Entertainment’s GM and SVP Glenn Orsher is named Producer and Director, Kidz Bop Live. The national Kidz Bop Live concert tour kicks off on June 18 with a schedule that includes visits to 18 US cities this summer. No stranger to producing concert tours, Orsher will work with Executive Producers Craig Balsam and Cliff Chenfeld, co-creators of the Kidz Bop brand, musical director John Clancy (he co- orchestrating Shrek on Broadway) among others.
