~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

Twentieth Television sold all seven seasons of the FOX comedy Malcolm in the Middle to Nick at Nite, per B&C. The series will open July 5 on the network, airing in primetime at 8p and joining other comedies George Lopez, Everybody Hates Chris (starting in September) and Home Improvement. Regency Television produced Malcolm in the Middle and it is distributed by Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.

Planet Green acquired a Canadian series called The 100-Mile Challenge distributed by Passion Distribution and produced by Paperny Films, per THR. The series follows six Canadian families as they stop eating mass-produced food products and opt to eat items grown within a 100-mile radius for 100 days. Passion Distribution, which holds the international rights to the series, also has format agreements out in France, Benelux and Asia.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

FOX is developing a reality series from A. Smith & Co. called I Married a Stranger about prospective brides who don’t meet their husbands until they exchange marriage vows. The series follows a different woman during each episode that has been unlucky on the dating front, who agrees to the proposition of a “blind” wedding. The woman’s friends and family will select from six candidates who are eliminated until two remain. Both finalists will appear at the wedding with one becoming the groom. FOX has finished production on a pilot and is considering a series order. Arthur Smith, Kent Weed and Scott Jeffress all serve as executive producers. As a follow up for viewers, I Married a Stranger will also show footage from each couple’s honeymoon and offer two-month updates to see how the relationships are progressing.

Picture This Television, the production company behind the Bravo reality series Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List is developing a reality series starring teen chef, Greg Grossman, according to THR. Fourteen-year-old Grossman, who grew up in East Hampton, NY began a catering business when he was 11, bringing him notoriety and to the attention of celebrity chefs.

~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:   New media outlets are finding themselves at the center of all sorts of controversies these days. Craigslist is back in the hot seat after a North Carolina man used the site to recruit someone to attack his wife with him in the room. Meanwhile St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa filed a lawsuit against Twitter for publishing a fake account bearing his name. (Someone purporting to be La Russa tweeted sardonically about sore subjects including a drunk driving charge, according the AP.) Twitter co-founder Biz Stone defended the company’s Terms of Service policy and responded to the growing problem of unauthorized profiles by announcing plans to launch a “Verified Accounts” option later this summer. Verified Accounts will guarantee authenticity for “public officials, public agencies, famous artists, athletes, and other well known individuals at risk of impersonation.” Now we’ll know whether or not it’s the real Shaq and the actual Dwight Howard using the platform to place a digital smack down on one another …  Full edition: CYN DIGITAL

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  BBC Worldwide Channels Asia inks a new deal to launch CBeebies, BBC Knowledge and BBC on Singapore’s pay TV platform StarHub TV.  The 24-hour channels will officially launch on the service on August 1, 2009, and will reach some 527,000 subscribers.  The three new channels will join BBC World News and BBC Entertainment, which are already available on StarHub’s pay TV platform.
