A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM UNIVISION

Numero Uno is the New #1.

Univision swept ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX. For the first time ever, the Network’s no-repeat lineup of primetime novelas, variety and sports made Univision America’s New #1 Network among both adults 18-34 and 18-49, including men and women. In any language.

Thank you, viewers, for making history with us.

CBS and Time Warner Cable have taken their bruising battle over retransmission fees public, with CBS airing ads in affected markets claiming, “Time Warner Cable is holding your favorite shows hostage.”  TWC countered by urging customers to contact Congress about the threat of CBS yanking its signals in eight major markets. About 3 million TWC subscribers could be shut out of CBS-owned TV stations at 5p July 24 if a current extension from the previous June 30 deadline expires without a deal; carriage of Showtime, CBS Sports Network and Smithsonian Channel is also at risk. It would be the first time CBS pulled its signal during a contract dispute.

~ MORE STUFF ~

Hollywood is taking sides in the upcoming SAG-AFTRA elections: Ken Howard and the Unite for Strength slate, against Esai Morales and Membership First. “With our TV/Theatrical negotiations ahead, it’s crucial to elect leaders who will deliver real results – that’s Unite for Strength,” said Ron Perlman. Alec Baldwin and Holland Taylor are among the other celebs endorsing Howard; fellow candidate Paul Edney, also on the ballot for president, has instead thrown his support to Morales “wholeheartedly.” Ballots went out on Tuesday.

Glee‘s season five premiere has been rescheduled in the wake of the death of series star Corey Monteith. Originally set for September 19, the ep will air Thursday, September 26 at 9p. After three new episodes, the show will take a hiatus. Co-creator Ryan Murphy told the Hollywood Reporter that after going over their options – which included canceling the show – he and the show’s producers, as well as Monteith’s co-star and girlfriend, Lea Michele, decided “the best thing for everyone is to get back to work and be around the people who knew him and loved him so that everyone can grieve together.” Murphy said the plan is to pay tribute to Monteith on the season’s third episode if they can “get it perfect.” As for Monteith’s character, Finn Hudson, “The right thing to do for the show, at least at this point, is to have the character pass,” says Murphy. “If we can do this responsibly and help young people through these feelings, that’s the best we can hope for.” Monteith died on July 13 at age 31.

He became a household name for predicting the last two Presidential elections, but now statistician Nate Silver is returning to his sports roots. Silver, who first gained attention as a whiz at baseball stats, leaves his NY Times perch for ESPN, where he’ll bring his popular FiveThirtyEight blog and is expected to contribute to Keith Olbermann‘s upcoming talk show, according to the Times. It’s also anticipated he’ll also take part in ABC‘s election coverage.

Self-described as “the show the networks should be afraid of,” gritty web-based drama Cream debuts today on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/CreamWebTV). The show tells the story of a corrupt hip hop entrepreneur, and features new music from up-and-coming artists. Exactly what is it that should have the nets shaking in their boots? Clayton Prince gives Cynopsis an example. “One of the major storylines deals with sexual responsibility and STDs,” says the actor/director/writer. “This makes a lot of networks nervous, but we feel this is subject matter that should be talked about.”

Joe Rogan‘s varied TV career has careened from sitcoms (NewsRadio) to martial arts (UFC) to reality TV (Fear Factor). On Wednesday, July 24 at 10p he makes his bow in Syfy’s Joe Rogan Questions Everything, crossing the country to delve into mysteries like Bigfoot.

TV Land has ordered 10 additional season three episodes of The Exes. The sitcom is scoring +9% above its prior season average, per Nielsen; the cable net made a similar 10-ep order in November.

NUVOtv‘s new reality series, House of Joy, showcases the efforts of record producer Rodney Jerkins and his wife, Joy Enriquez, to fire up Joy’s singing career (her last album was released in 2006). “There’s not a day that goes by that we’re not singing in our house,” mother-of-three Joy tells Cynopsis. Which means there’s plenty of music on the series – and it’s for sale. “Joy sings to our children on every show,” says Jerkins, “and we’ve made the songs available on iTunes.” Could a Kardashian-esque dynasty be in the offing? “We want the show to grow,” acknowledges Jerkins, “but when our kids feel like they don’t want to do it anymore, we won’t.”

A contest is underway at FOX for a Stewie-soundalike. Fans can upload a video recording of themselves imitating the droll Family Guy baby to win a shot a having their voice featured on the show, as well as a trip to the Just4Laughs Festival in Toronto on Saturday, September 28. Deadline is Friday, August 2 for anyone who thinks they can beat Seth MacFarlane‘s take on the tot.

20th Century Fox, Adidas and Screenvision have teamed up for a marketing effort to promote The Wolverine, out Friday, July 26 and Adidas’ new Springblade running shoe with co-branded trailers running in Screenvision cinemas. They’re not leaving out the small screen ads also run on YouTube.

CBS showed Comic-Con fans how those kids on the couch  now grown up – really feel about their long-winded dad’s eight-season explanation of How I Met Your Mother. Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie reprised their roles for the funny clip to gripe about all they’ve missed during narrator Ted Mosby’s meandering tale. “I missed college!” says Ted’s daughter, Fonseca. “I’d kill for a bathroom break!” Says “son” Henrie, “I went through puberty on this couch…. I don’t remember what sunshine feels like on my skin!” The kids get the answer at last on the ninth and final season of HIMYM, premiering Monday, September 23 at 8p.

~ RATINGS ~

Ugly headlines boosted ratings for CBS‘s Big Brother. The July 18 ep averaged 2.3/7 A18-49, a bump of 10% from the week before, according the early Nielsen numbers, as Aaryn Gries, the prime offender among housemates whose repugnant racial slurs have outraged viewers, avoided elimination. The Los Angeles Times reports Gries’s mother has hired a publicist to help the 22-year-old with damage control when she does finally exit the house. Gries has no idea she’s already been fired from her job at a modeling agency thanks to behavior like telling an Asian contestant to “shut up and go make some rice.”

Thursday A18-49 Analysis:  UNI rang up the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 2.1/7, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, CBS came closest to the 2.1/7 UNI scored with the first hour of its Premios Juventud telecast, with comedies The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men averaging 1.6/5. NBC’s Big Brother eked out the lead at 9p with 2.4/8 to UNI’s 2.3/7. At 10p, UNI was back on top, with the last hour of Premios Juventud averaging 1.9/6, followed by NBC’s Hollywood Game Night’s 1.2/4.
