Good morning. It’s Monday, January 8, 2007 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
Qubo‘s 24-hour digital network launches today, January 8, 2007, on one of the I digital channels. Qubo, launched jointly by ION Media, NBC Universal, Corus’ Nelvana, Scholastic Books, and Classic Media, had its initial launch as a kids programming block on NBC Saturday Mornings and Telemundo on September 9, 2006, and will continue to run on both. The NBC block is also carried on I on Friday afternoons at 3p.
When Microsoft’s new Windows Vista platform is released on January 30, 2007, it will include Nickelodeon’s TurboNick. Produced by Nickelodeon’s online group and designed and developed with Schematic, an interactive agency, TurboNick on Windows Vista features a collection of Nickelodeon programming (clips and full length Nicktoons), games as well as content from special events (e.g. Kid’s Choice Awards) and behind the scenes on TEENick and online exclusives. Users will be able to browse through the Nick video catalog by channel, show or character and create their own playlists, called MySnags, rate content and take trivia challenges. For those who have video tuner cards for Media Center for Windows Vista, they can watch the network live on their computer via TurboNick.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
New Line Cinema has selected Hossein Amini to write the screenplay adaptation of The Subtle Knife, the second book in author Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. The movie adaptation of The Golden Compass, the first book in the series, is currently in production in the UK. Written and directed by Chris Weitz, New Line has slated The Golden Compass for a holiday 2007 release.
