Beginning March 20, Starz will launch a one-hour block of original comedies on Friday nights starting with the 30m unscripted show Head Case at 10p followed by new series Party Down at 1030p. Travel Channel hired former E! star of Girls Next Door, Bridget Marquardt to host a new reality series called Bridget’s Sexiest Beaches, reports Multichannel News. The series will air on Thursday nights starting March 12 and will highlight the world’s most exotic beaches. Actor Patrick Swayze checked himself into a hospital last Friday morning with pneumonia. Swayze has been battling inoperable stage-four pancreatic cancer and this hospitalization comes when Swayze was set to meet with TV critics and journalists at the TV Critics Association’s winter press tour to promote his new A&E Network series The Beast premiering this Thursday at 10p. MTV’s premiere of The Real World: Brooklyn last Wednesday at 10p, the network’s 21st edition of the series, debuted with a 2.3 rating among P12-34 and attracted 2.26 million total viewers. The recent NFL Wild Card Weekend drew in an average of 25.8 million viewers over four games, representing the most viewers for an NFL Wild Card Weekend since January 2003. Current individual results include NBC with 21.0 million viewers for the January 3 at 430p Falcons at Cardinals game; NBC with 27.8 million viewers for the January 3 at 8p Colts at Chargers game; CBS with 23.9 million viewers for the January 4 at 1p Ravens at Dolphins game; and FOX with 30.0 million viewers for the January 4 at 430p Eagles at Vikings game. Stephanie March will be back on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU reprising her role of Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cabot beginning February 17. March will appear in an arc of six episodes. Production has begun in New York for season two of HBO’s In Treatment, the 30m drama starring Gabriel Byrne and Dianne Wiest. During the second season, scheduled to open in April, new cast members include Hope Davis, Russell Hornsby, John Mahoney, Alison Pill, Sherri Saum and Aaron Shaw and returning from season one as a guest star will be Glynn Turman. New episodes will air over two nights each week with two episodes on Sunday from 10-11p and three on Mondays at 10-1130p. HBO will premiere a multi-platform documentary series called The Alzheimer’s Project this May. The series will look inside discoveries made by leading scientists and the effects of this devastating illness on patients and their family. Presented by HBO Documentary Films and the National Institute on Aging at the National Institutes of Health in association with the Alzheimer’s Association, The Fidelity(r) Charitable Gift Fund and Geoffrey Beene Gives Back Alzheimer’s Initiative, The Alzheimer’s Project includes a four-part documentary series, 17 short additional films, a companion book published by Public Affairs Books, a website and a national community-based outreach effort. HBO will utilize its various platforms to disseminate information such as the main network, multiplex channels, HBO On Demand, HOB Podcasts, hbo.com, HBO Channel on YouTube and DVD sales. In other HBO news, the premium channel renewed the animated comedy The Life and Times of Tim from Media Rights Capital for a second season, per Variety. Paula Zahn inked an exclusive agreement to develop a weekly investigative newsmagazine show on cable network Investigation Discovery slated to premiere this year. Zahn will create the series along with Weinberger Media and Scott Sternberg Productions. Currently, Zahn is co-host of Sunday Arts on the PBS affiliate in New York City and if picked up, this Investigation Discovery project will be the first national news position she has been involved with since departing CNN in 2007. E!’s new 30m reality docu-soap series Candy Girls is ready to roll out March 8 following the third season premiere of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. In Candy Girls, the eight-part series follows the owner of a music talent agency as they supply background dancers for various acts and major events such as the Super Bowl and the Grammys. FOX revived its comedy series ‘Til Death by handing it a 22-episode order for a fourth season, reports Variety. The 30m comedy has been on hiatus since early October and there are 15 remaining episodes to complete the current third season. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television. CNN and Facebook will team up to deliver a live webcast of Barack Obama’s inauguration on Jan. 20 via the CNN Live portal. An application running on CNN Live will enable Facebook members to watch and interact with their friends during the historic address; comments will show up live on the app as well as on your Facebook page.
