Cynopsis: Kids!
02/02/09
Good morning. It’s Monday, February 2, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Meat Loaf, the singer not the dinner, will be a special guest on Bookaboo (13 episodes), the new CiTV‘s (UK) kid-targeted TV series that launches March 2, 2009. Designed to encourage and given parents the confidence to read to their kids Bookaboo is directed and produced by Lucy Goodman for Happy Films. Meat Loaf will read the story The Lamb Who Came To Dinner to the show’s rock n’ roll drumming cartoon puppy, for which the series is named. Each episode a celebrity will read a story back stage with Bookaboo on his Bookabus, because for Bookaboo it is … “a story a day or he jut can’t play.” Other stars set to read books with Bookaboo including Amanda Holden (Britain’s Got Talent judge), Al Murray (Pub Landlord) and Mel C (Spice Girl), as well as Alesha Dixon (Strictly Come Dancing), Children’s Laureate Michael Rosen, Julian Clary (comedian) and Robson Green (actor).
Writer Tom Wheeler will pen DreamWorks Animation‘s new movie Puss in Boots, a spin-off from its Shrek franchise, starring Antonio Banderas as the voice of Puss, per The Hollywood Reporter. Writer Chris Miller wrote an earlier draft of Puss In Boots, as well as serving as the co-writer and co-director on Shrek The Third, as well as lending his voice to characters in the Shrek movies (Geppetto, Magic Mirror, Humphries among others). Shrek Goes Fourth, the fourth movie in the Shrek series, releases May 21, 2010.
In other scribe news, Warner Bros. is reportedly looking to screenwriter Dan Mazeau to pen a draft of the script for its new movie adaptation of DC Comics‘ The Flash, according to IESB. Mazeau is currently developing and writing the screenplay for Warner Bros.’ Jonny Quest movie.

MARKETING/LICENSING
Scholastic Media inks new licensing and promotional partners for its property The 39 Clues. Set to hit shelves in conjunction with the publication of the third book, The Sword Thief on March 3, 2009, Scholastic Media teams with University Games to produce a line of board and card games as well as puzzles for players of all ages. The line will build upon the book series and will include exclusive clue cards that drive consumers to www.39clues.com. This summer a range of 39 Clues products will debut including those from Mead (line of calendars) and Trends International (journals and stationery). Additionally, Scholastic Media will also leverage the adventure theme of the property this summer 2009 in a major promotional partnership to be announced soon.
BBC Worldwide inks two-year renewal deals for Charlie and Lola licenses with Marks and Spencer for clothing and H&A for toiletries. Based on the books by author Lauren Child, the collage-style animated Charlie and Lola series is produced by Tiger Aspect Productions and distributed by BBC Worldwide. Launching this spring 2009 in Marks and Spencer is a collection of Charlie and Lola inspired apparel (e.g. rain coats, tee and shrug sets, tee and jacket sets, shorts and tights sets, shortie pajamas and washbags, nightgowns and packs of tees, socks, briefs and vests etc.). H&A is developing new products and continuing its top selling lines. Additionally, master toy licensee Golden Bear extends its line to include new plush items, such as Bouncing Lola, a feature toy with movement and phrases as well as a range of other plush, games and wooden toys.
Koch Records will release the soundtrack of the 3D stop-motion animated movie Coraline digitally on February 3, and in stores on February 24th, 2009. Focus Features will release the movie, from animation studio Laika, in theaters nationwide, in 3D and traditional 2D theaters, on February 6. Based on Neil Gaiman’s book Coraline, and directed by Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas), the movie’s soundtrack is produced by and features the work of composer Bruno Coulais, as well as a new original song, Other Father Song, by They Might Be Giants.
Tomorrow also marks the release of iCarly star Miranda Cosgrove‘s five-track debut solo EP, About You Now, from Nickelodeon/Columbia Records and available exclusively on iTunes. In addition to original and remix versions of Miranda’s single, About You Now, the EP features a remix of Stay My Baby and premieres of the songs FYI and party Girl; the latter two songs will be included on her debut solo album.
