~ MORE STUFF ~

New Zealand folk-pop duo, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie who make up the comedy-music group and star in HBO’s comedy Flight of the Conchords announced they will not continue the show for a third season. In a statement posted on their website late last week, Clement and McKenzie said even though the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be on the HBO show, the “real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.” Flight of the Conchords debuted on HBO in 2007, running for two seasons and 22 total episodes.

As a result of the recent pact between General Electric and Comcast over the sale of NBC Universal, current President/CEO Jeff Zucker signed a new three-year contract, cites THR. Zucker’s new deal will keep him in place through 2013. Since regulatory approvals could take up to 18 months to clear, Zucker would run the new entity, where Comcast owns 51% and GE owns 49% for at least a year and a half.

FX’s season finale of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia last Thursday at 10p attracted 1.31 million A18-34; 1.68 A18-49; and 2.13 million total viewers. Following at 1030p, the freshman season ender of The League delivered 963,000 A18-49 and 1.20 million total viewers.

Wednesday’s season six finale of Bravo’s Top Chef drew in 3.4 million total viewers, equal to 1 million more viewers than the season premiere on August 19, though falling behind the season five finale with 3.7 million total viewers.

Veteran television and stage actor, Gene Barry, 90, died last Wednesday at an assisted-living facility in Woodland Hills, CA. Throughout his television career, Barry starred in a variety of roles, headlining the TV show Bat Masterson from 1958 to 1961; followed by the lead role in Burke’s Law from 1963 to 1966; and playing a rich magazine mogul in The Name of the Game from 1968 to 1971. He also starred in the short-lived show The Adventurer in 1972-73. Barry also appeared in several films and was nominated for a Tony award in 1984 for his role as George in La Cage Aux Folles. Barry was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years who died in 2003; he is survived by a daughter, two sons, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ~

Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun, heads of the production company BermanBraun, reupped their first-year agreement with NBC Universal for three additional years. The deal allows BermanBraun to continue to operate under a separate banner within NBC U and giving NBC U’s television units a first-look at their projects in development.

CBS gave a script commitment to a time travel project titled Murmurs from CBS Studios, cites THR. Writers Jason Smilovic and producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas are involved on the project about a world where time travel is commonplace and an agency called Commission is in charge of finding and correcting alterations in time called murmurs. Smilovic and Goldsmith-Thomas are executive producing and developed the concept with their producing partner, Tyler Mitchell who is also serving as supervising producer; Marisa Yeres of Goldsmith-Thomas Productions will also co-produce.

Thursday  A18-49 Analysis: CBS held a comfortable lead Thursday night among A18-49 with a 3.9/11, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, CBS won with Survivor: Samoa at 4.2/12 followed by FOX’s Bones in second at 3.1/9. CBS continued its primetime spree at 9p as CSI posted a 3.9/10, though NBC was not too far behind at 3.7/10, the average of The Office and 30 Rock. CBS ended the night a winner through 10p with The Mentalist delivering a 3.6/10 and NBC’s The Jay Leno Show was #2 at 1.6/5.
