The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Nutrition and Consumer Services and the Ad Council have launched Nutrition Education, a multi-media public service advertising (PSA) campaign to promote healthier lifestyles. The PSA campaign encourages parents to offer healthy option for their families as well as getting their kids to look for proper nutrition in foods they eat as well as maintain a level of physical activity. Specifically, the PSA initiative aims to reach low-income families, who tend to be at greater risk for overweight and obesity. The PSAs drive consumers to the USDA’s site, www.MyPyramid.gov .
Disney Channel is set to debut the second season of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 9a on its Playhouse Disney programming block. Additionally, the network will premiere new episodes of Johnny and the Sprites will bow from Saturday, January 19, 7:30a.
The Weinstein Co has acquired the English-language and Latin American distribution rights to the 3D animated feature Niko & the Way to the Stars from Germany’s Telepool, per Hollywood Reporter. The holiday family movie revolves around Niko, a young reindeer who dream of one day flying with Santa as his father does, who discovers and must thwart an evil plot set in motion by the Big Bad Wolf. Produced by Anima Vitae Slated (Finland), Ulysses (Germany), A. Film (Denmark), and Magma Films (Ireland), the movie will bow first in Scandinavia, distributed by Nordisk, in October 2008, Niko & the Way to the Stars will then be released in the rest of the world.
Carey Elwes is joining the cast of Robert Zemeckis’ 3D motion capture movie, A Christmas Carol, per Variety. Like other cast mates, including Jim Carrey, Elwes will play a number of different roles in the Disney feature film, which is currently slated for November 2009 release.
Exodus Film Group has inked a video game pact with Interactive Game Group (I2G) and Legacy Interactive for a game based on Exodus’ CG animated feature film Igor. The Igor game will be released for Nintendo’s DS and Wii, as well as PC and wireless versions of the game. Legacy Interactive will publish the IGOR game in North America, with I2G financing and coordinating the project on globally. Igor, the movie, is a Weinstein Co. presentation being distributed in the US by MGM on October 24, 2008. The Weinstein Co. is handling international sales for the film.
Tor Books, an imprint of Sci-Fi publisher Tom Doherty Associates, has formed a new manga imprint with Seven Seas Entertainment, a publisher of manga-based novels and illustrated juvenile fiction. The new imprint will publish both original and acquired content beginning in early 2008. Additionally, Tor will also distribute new Seven Seas titles every month, under the Seven Seas imprint. Beginning March 2008, the imprint will publish ‘light novels,” manga style illustrated books, starting with Seven Sea’s titles including Ballad of Shinigami, Pita-Ten, and Strawberry Panic. The first collaborative title under the new partnership is Afro Samurai, a manga written and illustrated by creator Takashi Okazaki, based on the TV anime series (Spike TV in the US), which will be published in August 2008.

And now Abba fans will have a place to go, all the time, as plans for an oft-rumored/discussed Abba museum in Stockholm are unveiled. Expected to open on a waterfront property in June 2009, the multi-floor Abba museum (about 70,000 square feet) will cost about $31 million and will feature everything from the band’s wardrobe, instruments, a make your own recording of an Abba song area, and best of all (if you are a major devotee) a disco where fans can just dance to Abba music, and so on you can check out details at abbamuseum.com. Spike TV’s 2007 Video Game Awards were handed out over the weekend at a ceremony in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center and then premiered on the network last night. Hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, the network’s 5th annual Video Game Awards show was sponsored this year by Burger King, GameStop, Mountain Dew, Stride Gum, Tag, US Air Force, and Verizon Wireless.
