~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~ TNT has passed on renewing Trust Me for second season. The Erick McCormack/Tom Cavanagh dramedy debuted in January to 3.4 million viewers, tho that number fell off considerably thru the season. As I have it now, the broadcast upfront schedule begins with NBC (who is calling its upfront an “infront”) on Tuesday May 5th – two weeks before the rest of the field. Fox is scheduled for Monday, 5/18; ABC on Tuesday the 19th; CBS on Wednesday the 20th; and The CW finishes the week on May 21st. With that said, NBC has scheduled a comedy showcase for Tuesday, May 19th, at The Town Hall in NYC’s Theatre District. The performance will include Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon and Conan O’Brien. Discovery Channel has ordered six episodes of its newest series Doing DaVinci, set to debut tonight 10p. The series uses DaVinci engineering drawings of extraordinary weapons and attempts to build them according to his original drawings, using only materials available at the time of DaVinci. The build team of engineers, historians and builders will determine which of DaVinci’s proposed constructions would actually work as he originally envisioned. The series is shot in HD and is produced for Discovery by Pilgrim Films and Television. ~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~ MTV Networks and BET will launch HD feeds of many of its networks on the DISH Network, reports THR. Of the network involved are BET, CMT, Spike, VH1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and CMT. All will be available to those DISH subscribers who have the Classic Bronze 100 HD package. Also on DISH, the NFL Network and the satellite provider have settled their issues – terms were not fully disclosed, but we do know that it includes carriage of the NFL Network on DISH in a new multiyear deal. The network will continue to be carried on the Dish Classic Silver 200 package. Additionally, NFL has agreed to drop their lawsuit against DISH. Coming up at the end of the month on NFL – the NFL draft on April 25 and 26th. ~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~ Showtime had four pilots in front of it for possible development, and has decided to pass on all four. One of Possible Side Effects, written and directed by Tim Robbins and starring Josh Lucas; others included Ronna and Beverly from Lionsgate; The Farm, a spin off of The L Word; and The End of Steve starring Matthew Perry. ~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~ CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Time Warner Cable COO Landel Hobbs addressed reports (and complaints) about the controversial consumption-based tiered broadband pricing scheme the company is testing in select markets in a macro-blog posting. Using a lunch date as an analogy in which your friend orders a steak and you get a salad, he defends the practice of charging heavy users more to connect to the internet, claiming that costs are rising to accommodate rapidly growing consumption (increasing at a rate of 40% a year). Accordingly, the company is developing a range of options from a super slow 768 KB/128 KB (1GB) service for $15/month to a 50 MB speed tier offered at $99/month. A 100 GB Road Runner Turbo package will go for $75 per month offering speeds of 10 MB down/1 MB up. Overage charges will be priced at $1 per GB per month if you go over your allotted download amounts, with fees capped at an additional $75. The plan has been taken to task for exorbitant pricing given the relatively low cost of rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 headend and modem upgrades. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Disney‘s new movie Hannah Montana: The Movie, starring Miley Cyrus and based on the Disney Channel series of the same name, sang its way to the top of the box office charts in its opening weekend with a total of $34 million (3,118 theaters) in box office receipts and breaking some records along the way. Hannah Montana: The Movie, the second Hannah Montana movie in as many years, took in an estimated $17.3 million in its first day, Friday, April 10, to become the biggest opening day for a G-rated live-action picture, squeaking by the $17.0 million earned by Disney’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year (10/24/2008), per Box Office Mojo. The movie also bested that of last year’s concert movie, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour (2/1/2008), which earned $8.7 million in its first day and $31.1 million (683 theaters) in its first weekend.
