Great American Living, the cable channel acquired by Great American Media in 2021, is getting a new name: Great American Faith & Family. The change comes after Great American Media’s merger with Pure Flix. “Given the enormously positive reaction from subscribers to Great American Pure Flix and the ongoing growth of Great American Family, now is the perfect time to sharpen our focus on our second linear channel,” said Bill Abbott, CEO and president of Great American Media. “Great American Faith & Living fills a void in the marketplace, and we are confident viewers will enjoy a strong mix of content that brings the highest quality faith programming in the genre.”
Disney’s 1937 classic film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” hits Disney+ on Monday, October 16, in the form of a 4K restoration. “We are incredibly excited to go back to Walt’s original negative and use current state of the art technology to restore this stunning classic to its original beauty,” said Kevin Schaeffer, director of Restoration for Walt Disney Studios.
What words of wisdom did new CNN CEO Mark Thompson have for staffers on Monday, his first official day of work? “Let’s cover political news proportionately and fairly, but not be frightened of our own shadows,” he said in a video message. Thompson also warned that conventional TV “can no longer define us,” urging advancements in digital, saying TV was “too dominant at CNN and digital too marginal.”
DreamWorks Animation laid off approximately 70 employees, or 4% of its workforce, as part of a cost reduction. Roles affected were across corporate functions, features, television and technology departments. DreamWorks Animation was acquired by NBCUniversal in 2016.
Just when they thought he was out…Activist investor Nelson Peltz has his sights set on Disney board seats again, reports The Wall Street Journal. Peltz’s Trion Fund Management, one of Disney’s largest investors, asserts Disney shares are undervalued, and is expected to ask for several seats, including one for Peltz, according to the WSJ. Peltz withdrew a request for a board seat in February after Disney unveiled a reorganization and cost-cutting plan.
The Disney/Charter deal is positive for broadcast TV, said Nextstar Media Group in its investor presentation. “The re-bundling of DTC services into MVPDs/vMVPDs enables major media companies with money-losing DTC strategies to reintegrate and co-exist within the linear ecosystem,” says the report, which also notes broadcast stations have the most-watched TV content; broadcast TV is the most important medium for engaging live sports audiences; and local TV news drives viewer engagement. Nexstar is a major station group owner, as well as parent of The CW.

As reported by Mashable, the ads – with headlines like “This Seems Unbelievable, But Happens in Dubai Everyday” – resemble the “chumbox” ads found at the bottom of posts on content farm sites, and can take users who click on them to third-party websites with no user profiles.

British auto series “Fifth Gear“ is speeding into the FAST space. Viewers in the UK can catch the channel on Amazon Freevee, Plex and Pluto TV. In the US, the brand is part of the programming line-up for “Pluto TV Cars,” as well as having its own dedicated channel on Amazon Freevee, Plex and Xumo Play with further platforms launching in both the US and UK in the coming months. It can also be viewed in Canada on Plex.
Ridley Scott’s historical drama “Napoleon” will be released on Apple TV+ after its theatrical release in the form of a director’s cut – currently over four hours long, Scott told Total Film Magazine. “We’ll screen [the theatrical cut] first with Sony, and then it has its run, a then the perfect thing is that [the director’s cut] goes to streaming, and we have four hours 10 minutes,” Scott told the outlet. The film is due in theaters Thanksgiving weekend.

“Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie” premieres December 8 on Peacock. The film stars Tony Shaloub, who headlined the quirky USA procedural “Monk” (2002-2009).
“The Game That Changed Everything: Yankees vs. Red Sox ’04 ALCS” premieres Wednesday, October 18 on FS1, following live coverage of Game 3 of the ALCS. The documentary chronicles the American League Championship Series matchup between rivals the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox that led to the curse-breaking Boston title win in 2004.
Game show “Pictionary” will air a series of “Masters of the Universe”-themed episodes from October 12-14, timed to the franchise’s 41st anniversary. Brian Austin Green and Jaleel White will join host Jerry O’Connell for the “Skelebration.”

The LA28 Organizing Committee announced its recommendation of lacrosse as one of five sports to be added to the 2028 Summer Olympics in LA. “This is incredibly exciting news,” said USA Lacrosse CEO Marc Riccio. “The LA28 Organizing Committee’s recommendation shows an appreciation for the significance of lacrosse and an understanding of its potential. We’re not to the finish line yet, but this a major step forward in the process.” Final approval of the additional sports to the Olympic program for 2028 will be voted on during the International Olympic Committee session in Mumbai, India from October 15-17.
The puck drops on the NHL season tonight with a tripleheader. The Nashville Predators are hosted by the Tampa Bay Lightning at 5:30p on ESPN and ESPN+; the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins face off at 8p; and the Seattle Kraken play reigning Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights at 10:30p.
NHL on TNT kicks off tomorrow, October 11 with a doubleheader simulcast across TNT and the B/R Sports Add-On tier on Max.
