The CW handed a full season order to its drama One Tree Hill. Originally, The CW had ordered 13 episodes of One Tree Hill and now the series is receiving a full seventh season order. Additionally, The CW ordered nine more scripts of frosh series The Vampire Diaries and six more scripts are in the works for Melrose Place.

Several series are returning or debuting next month on various networks:

  • Season three of A&E Network’s real-life series Parking Wars is back starting October 6 at 10p. This new season follows employees of the Philadelphia Parking Authority in addition to those working for the Municipal Parking Department in Detroit. Hybrid Films produces the series for A&E.
  • E! introduces three new ladies living in the Playboy Mansion as a new season of The Girls Next Door begins October 11 at 10p. The series is produced by Prometheus Entertainment, Alta Loma Entertainment and Fox Television Studios.
  • Fine Living Network debuts its new competition series Bartender Wars on October 16 at 1030p. Hosted by Egypt Sherrod, each of the 13 half hour episodes follows three New York City bartenders as they do battle in a series of challenges.
  • Discovery Channel opens a third season of Storm Chasers on October 18 at 10p.

2008-2009 Season Results for Sunday Morning Talk Shows:

NBC’s long-time staple Meet the Press remained in the lead over the other Sunday morning news/talk shows, though NBC saw some decline in viewers year-to-year while ABC gained ground. The end of season results:
NBC’s Meet the Press: 3.8 million total viewers (-3%); 1.3 million A25-54 viewers (-5%)
ABC’s This Week: 3 million total viewers (+12%); 1 million A25-54 viewers (+4%)
CBS’ Face the Nation: 2.8 million total viewers; 1 million A25-54 viewers
FOX’s Fox News Sunday: 1.3 million total viewers; 500,000 A25-54 viewers

Going into its 35th season on PBS, Austin City Limits revealed a performance schedule filled with an eclectic mix of entertainers (check local listings), reports THR. Beginning October 3, Austin City Limits opens with the Dave Matthews Band and punctuated throughout the season other major artists include Kenny Chesney on October 17; Elvis Costello and Band of Heathens on November 7; Willie Nelson & Asleep at the Wheel on November 14; Pearl Jam on November 21; among others and ending with Madeleine Peyroux and Esperanza Spaldin on February 13, 2010. Additionally, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this week announced they were designating the Austin City Limits Studio as a historic landmark.

Based on findings from an online public opinion survey of 1,000 18+ adults commissioned by Empower MediaMarketing, close to 74% of viewers who tuned into NBC’s The Jay Leno Show during its inaugural week gave the show a grade of “A” or “B.” Critics and Twitter users, on the other hand, did not like the show as well. The 8-page study, titled The People Have Spoken: Comparing Opinions on The Jay Leno Show Across Traditional Media, Social Media and Viewers, reviewed a sample of 500 tweets during Leno’s first week and 75% of those opinions were also negative.

Texas-based Global Language Monitor, using an algorithm they developed, released the top ten list of “telewords” or the most influential words from TV as the new season begins, per Reuters. Some of the “words” making the list are actually two words or phrases:
1. ObamaVision
2. Financial Meltdown
3. Michael Jackson
4. Susan Boyle
5. Hulu.com
6. Vampires
7. Dar Dour (The Iraqi TV show spoof)
8. Wizards
9. “And that’s the way it is”
10. Jiggle

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:   The FCC has set an Oct. 22 date to formally propose new net neutrality rules aimed at ensuring that ISPs refrain from restricting the flow of internet content and applications, per Reuters. With Democrats now in control of the commission by a 3-2 margin, the measure is expected to pass and subsequently be put up for public comment. A group of Republican lawmakers have backed off their plan to introduce a bill to block the FCC’s efforts to codify the agency’s network neutrality principles, the Washington Post reported earlier this week.  Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.
