Good morning. It’s Friday, September 22, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing. 

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Ragdoll and BBC Worldwide have teamed up to form a new joint venture called, Ragdoll Worldwide Ltd.  The new venture will further exploit and grow Ragdoll’s existing programming catalog as well as launching new properties.  The first new series to be launched under the Ragdoll Worldwide banner are the preschool series, In the Night Garden and Tronji, a CG/live-action show, both of which are slated to bow on BBC in 2007.  In the Night Garden will be launched at Mipcom next month.  BBC Worldwide will manage the international broadcast sales and the UK and international licensing of all Ragdoll properties on behalf of Ragdoll Worldwide.  Ragdoll retains all UK broadcast rights and Ragdoll USA Inc, which is part of the new joint venture, will manage the Ragdoll catalog in North America.

Tony Leondis will direct Exodus Film Group’s CG-animated irreverent comedy feature Igor.  An animation industry veteran, Leondis credits include Home on the Range, The Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado and Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has A Glitch.  So far the amazing voice cast of Igor includes Christian Slater, Steve Buscemi and John Cleese.  Based on a screenplay by Chris McKenna and produced by Jon D. Eraklis and Max Howard, the movie revolves around Igor, the perennial mad scientists lab assistant , who has his own dream: to become a scientist himself and win the top prize at the Evil Science Fair.  The Weinstein Company holds the worldwide distribution rights to the movie.

MORE KIDS STUFF

October looks to be a scary one over at Cartoon Network with its schedule of a number of Halloween and scary-themed episodes, specials and on-air events, including the world TV premieres of the new animated feature, Scooby-Doo: Prates Ahoy!, the new animated direct-to-video picture Casper’s Scare School, and the network’s debut of the 2002 live-action/CGI movie Scooby Doo, two new episodes of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy as well as three marathons a nine-and-a-half hour Halloween Marathon on the big day, Tuesday, October 31, 1-10:30p.

BKN Home Entertainment Ltd will release its new CGI/3D animated movie adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in US theaters for a limited run.  Distributed by Kidtoon Films, the all-animal version A Christmas Carole will be screened as weekend matinees at 100+ theaters nationwide from November 4-26, 2006.  The screenings will also feature cartoon shorts, music videos and sing-alongs prior to the feature, followed afterwards by various give-a-ways.  Additionally, Genius Products, LLC, BKN’s home entertainment distributor in the US, is set to release the movie on DVD on November, 21 November.  BKN Home Entertainment is the UK arm of BKN International AG.

marblemedia will attend Mipcom/Mipcom Jr. where it will showcase its new teen targeted extreme sports themed reality/competition series, Project: Adrenaline (26 x 30′), and its newly created project, Feel Reel.  The series will incorporate a multi-platform approach with web and mobile components. Marblemedia is developing the project with YTV.

Coneybeare Stories, Inc. has tapped PorchLight Entertainment to distribute the upcoming second season of its mixed live-action/CGI adventure series, Monster Warriors.  A YTV Production, produced in association with Jetix Europe, YTV recently picked up second season of Monster Warriors (26 x 30′), which will again be produced by Coneybeare, for a total of 52 x 30′.  Targeted to tweens 8-12, Monster Warriors revolves around four teens use the low-tech approach to go up against CGI creatures (a la B movie monsters) who attempt to destroy their city.  PorchLight will be at Mipcom with Monster Warriors

In other Coneybeare Stories and PorchLight Entertainment news, the two have also partnered to produce and distribute family centric movies.  The project will be produced by Coneybeare Stories and distributed under the PorchLight Entertainment banner.

MARKETING/LICENSING

The Sprouse brothers, aka Dylan and Cole Sprouse stars of Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, are heading into books, in a new licensing deal crafted by their management Dualstar Entertainment with Simon Spotlight, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, to publish a series of books with the teen brothers.  Under the deal Simon Spotlight has acquired North America rights for all channels of distribution for the first books, which are slated to be published in summer 2007.  Simon & Schuster is part of the CBS Corporation.  Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Casting Note: WSBS-Mega TV Canal 22 will launch its new educational campaign, Tu Mega TV, on September 25.  The goal of Tu Mega TV is to discover and promote new on-air talent and others who want a career in broadcast production.  Those who want to participate in Tu Mega TV, including high school and college kids living in the US and Puerto Rico will need to submit a video clip with their “unique story” to www.mega.tv . EXECUTIVE MOVES

Animation studio, 9 Story Entertainment is set to launch a new distribution division that will be headed by Natalie Osborne, as EVP, Business Development.  Osborne jumps in feet first when she heads to Mipcom Jr. to represent 9 Story’s tween/teen targeted series including, Futz! (26 x 3 min), Best Ed (52 x 11) and If The World Were A Village.  Osborne was formerly VP/Acquisitions, Universal Pictures Visual Programming.

Greg Diefenbach has been named SVP/Television Programming, Corporation of Public Broadcasting (CPB).  In his new position, he will oversee and manage CPB’s national public TV programming efforts.  A longtime TV producer, Diefenbach founded and served as President of Diefenbach Media, a company that focused on developing, financing and producing factual TV specials.  Previously, he was SVP/Production & Development, Devillier Donegan Enterprises.

Additionally, the CPB has upped John Prizer to Sr. advisor to the president, TV programming special projects. This move expands Prizer’s responsibilities of his role as VP/TV Program Development.
