~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ~

Lifetime will soon get its own food-themed reality series as it approved a pilot called Search for the Greatest American Recipe, reports Variety. Celebrity chef Tyler Florence will host the project and be one of the judges as production begins this weekend in Los Angeles. The series will follow Florence as he travels to seven US regions in search of unique recipes. Each of the regional finalists would then compete in a cooking competition with one winning overall. ITV Studios and Parade Publications, owner of the national Sunday newspaper inserts, are producing. Parade, in partnership with ITV, will generate additional awareness for the show through the magazine’s website including blogs, recipe databases and other components.

Bravo said production on season three of The Real Housewives of New York City has begun with new episodes slated to debut in 2010. Shed Media U.S. produces the NYC version of the popular franchise. Additionally, the Real Housewives brand has expanded into numerous new products. Bravo Media is teaming with Royal Plush, in its first-ever licensing agreement, to produce a co-branded apparel line sold nationwide in top department stores and specialty boutiques starting this fall. Furthermore, Bravo Media is partnering with Chronicle Books and Melcher Media on a companion book to the franchise titled The Real Housewives Get Personal, a behind-the-scenes tell-all featuring the women from Atlanta, New York City, New Jersey and Orange County.

Disney Media Networks Latin America has an adaptation of The Golden Girls in the works for Spanish-language viewers. The program titled Los Anos Dorados received an order for 45 half-hour episodes and it will be produced in Venezuela and sold throughout Latin America and to Spanish-language networks in the US. Similar to the original show, the new version will be set in Miami though the cast is described as being more diverse, reflecting more modern-day Miami and appealing to Latin viewers. Stars of the show include Rebecca Jones and Susana Alexander from Mexico, Kristina Lilley from Colombia and Lili Renteria from Cuba.

Casting Notes:

  • NBC’s midseason comedy 100 Questions added Collette Wolfe and Smith Cho as regular cast members, per THR. The plot surrounds a young woman (Sophie Winkleman) who is searching for love by using a popular online dating service. Cho will play her best friend and business partner while Wolfe will play another friend who is a sweet-tempered kindergarten teacher by day and a major party girl at night. Originally in the pilot the roles were played by Elizabeth Ho and Joy Suprano, respectively.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Do you want a paperback made while you’re waiting for that espresso? Google announced a new partnership that makes its index of over 2 million public domain books available to On Demand Books The Espresso Book Machine, a print-on-demand “ATM for books” that can spit out a 300-page paperback in a matter of minutes, at the cost of about a penny a page. The machine is powered by the company’s EspressNet proprietary software system that connects it to a vast encrypted network of licensed content. “What’s great about this technology is that it radically decentralizes the marketplace for the distribution of books,” says Dane Neller, CEO of On Demand Books. Most books would retail for about $8 wherever the machine was located, with each partner keeping $1 per sale. The machine itself costs about $100,000.    Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Cookie Jar Entertainment will co-produce the newly greenlit animated series Doodlebops Rockin’ Road Show (26×30) with Argentina-based Illusion Studios and Germany’s Optix Entertainment.  With production set to being on Doodlebops Rockin’ Road Show this fall, the series has already been sold to CBC (Canada).   Full edition: CYN KIDS.
