Teletoon (Canada) partners with MGA Entertainment a promotion for the network’s tween-aimed comedy Majority Rules and MGA’s Moxie Girlz doll line.  The promotion will feature in-show product integration, a first for the network, on the first four new episodes of Majority Rules.  Additionally, the promotion includes Moxie Moments, 30-second on-air and online spots where Majority Rules characters show their courage and/or style, and a Show Us Your Moxie contest, as well as two appearances by Majority Rules cast members at Toys ‘R’ Us stores in Toronto.  Majority Rules is produced by E1 Entertainment.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Disney‘s feature film Tron: Legacy will release day and date in Imax 3D and traditional movie theaters on December 17, 2010.  Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Tron: Legacy stars Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, and is the third feature film in the five-picture deal between Imax and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Virgin Media struck new multiplatform agreement to carry standard and high def Disney content on cable, online and mobile phones across the pond. Under the terms of the deal, Disney TV shows such as Hannah Montana and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and feature films including High School Musical and Camp Rock will be made available on Virgin Media’s on-demand offering in the UK and Ireland as well as on Virgin’s ADSL broadband and mobile services. The Disney XD channel was also recently launched on Virgin Media, replacing the Jetix service.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will release on Blu-ray and DVD this December 8, 2009, per Coming SoonWarner Home Video will release Half-Blood Prince as a 3-disc + DVD + Digital Copy Combo Pack, a 2-Disco Digital Copy Special Edition and a 1-Disc Edition in both widescreen and full screen.

4Kids Entertainment will showcase the new chapter in the Chaotic animated series, Chaotic: Secrets of the Lost City (12×30), at Mipcom this October.  Produced in HD by 4Kids Entertainment, Chaotic: Secrets of the Lost City has been acquired by Cartoon Network US and Teletoon (Canada) for the new 2009-10 TV season.  These new episodes bring the Chaotic Saga to a total of 78×30.

Zodiak Entertainment completes deals for the animated series Gormiti, The Lords of Nature Return.  With the series set to debut on Cartoon Network US this October, Gormiti, the Lords of Nature Return will also premiere this month in France on M6 followed by Canal J, RTL 2 (Germany), in Spain on RTVE and Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon UK.  The series will also bow several months down the road on Alter Channel (Greece), Digi Turk (Turkey), Noga (Israel), MBC (Middle East), TV3 in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, Nova TV (Bulgaria) and Globo TV (Brazil).  Negotiations are in the works for further deals in Latin American and South East Asia.  Produced by Marathon Media and Giochi Preziosi for Mediaset, M6, and Canal J, is based on an Italian property.  Zodiak Entertainment Distribution holds international TV and home entertainment rights to Gormiti, the Lords of Nature Return. Licensing and merchandising for the brand is handled by Marathon Media in France and Giochi Preziosi in the rest of the world.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Actress Emma Watson, best known as Harry Potter’s pal Hermione, has partnered with People tree, a sustainable and fair trade fashion brand, on a new line of apparel for men and women.  Watson will serve as a creative advisor for the collection that will launch in late February 2010.  The royalties from the new collection will go to the People Tree Foundation, which aims to bring fair trade to more farmers and artisans.

Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) partners with Colgate-Palmolive Company for a line of Bakugan branded oral care products.  Set for release beginning holiday 2009, the new kid-targeted line include manual and electronic toothbrushes and toothpaste for release in the US, its possessions and territories and CARICOM.

Chorion is tapped by the Antoine de Saint-Exupery Estate to serve as the licensing agent for The Little Prince property in the UK and Ireland.  Under the deal Chorion will represent all licensing, merchandising and promotions based on the classic book property.  Chorion will begin its search for potential partners at Brand Licensing Europe in London September 30-October, 2009.

Pacific Entertainment enters into a licensing deal with Meadowbrook Press for a line of interactive board books based on its Baby Genius musical education/entertainment property.  Distributed by Simon & Schuster, the new interactive Sing ‘n Learn books feature Baby Genius characters and educate kids through music and song.  Audio versions of the songs featured in the books can also be downloaded.  The first four Sing ‘n Learn books are currently available, with four more titles set for publication in 2010.
