AOL is set to officially launch JSYK.com (Just So You Know, www.jsyk.com ), its new tween/teen 9-15 targeted culture centric blog tomorrow. Part of AOL’s MediaGlow range of websites, JSYK.com will feature celebrity, entertainment and style news, tech info, photos, videos, polls, quizzes as well as an area about politics and current events. The blog is launching in conjunction with AOL’s sponsorship of The First National Tween Girl Summit 2009 in Washington, D.C. AOL continues to provide its other kid-aimed offerings KOL and KOL Jr. and a range of sites for parents.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
India’s DQ Entertainment (DQE) inks a co-production deal with France-based Gaumont-Alphanim to co-produce a third season of Galactik Football. DQE, along with its subsidiary DQ Entertainment Ireland, have begun production on the new episodes with a production budget of US$10.1 million, which is slated to premiere in June 2010 in conjunction with the World Cup. Three additional projects are also under discussion, including a live-action TV series that would be produced by DQE.
MORE KIDS STUFF
Nickelodeon is set to debut four new episodes of the live-action preschool music series The Fresh Beat Band on Monday-Thursday, October 19-22 at 12p. Additionally, Nickelodeon will roll out six new music videos from The Fresh Beat Band, with two premiering each Friday from October 16 through October 30. The series aims to encourage preschoolers to learn about music appreciation and express themselves through movement, lyrics and music.
Cartoon Network scares up Halloween programming this October:
- The network will debut 12 new episodes of the live-action series The Othersiders throughout the month, including a week of nightly premieres leading up to October 30. Goosebumps joins the weekday lineup at 4:30p through October 29, including two hour-long episodes on October 7 and 14.
- The Columbus Day marathon (8a-9p) of Halloween programming will feature the TV movie Billy and Mandy’s Big Boogey Adventure (1:30p), episodes of 6Teen (8p) and a one-hour Othersiders special (9p); Zombie Day, Saturday October 24 1p-9p, including Frankenthumb (2p) and Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (3:30p)
- And, of course, the Halloween day marathon on Saturday, October 31 10a-10p.
MIPCOM
Cartoon Network Asia inks a content partnership with Malaysia’s Animasia Studio to produce a new animated series (title TBD) about a group of Indian school kids that dream of playing in the biggest inter-school cricket championships. The property is salted to bow on Cartoon Network in India in the second half of 2010.
Telescreen completes a range of TV and home entertainment deals at Mipcom.
On the TV side: SVT (Sweden) renews the TV rights for Miffy & Friends (78×5); RUV (Iceland) picks up the broadcast rights to Moomin (78×26).
Home Entertainment deals include: home entertainment rights to Frog & Friends (26×7) have been acquired by Beyond Magma for Australia and Edel Kids for Germany; Norviy Disk (Russia) acquires the home entertainment rights for both Dibo the Giftdragon (52×11) and Moomin (78×26).
Cyber Group Studios completes several deals during MipJunior/Mipcom:
- Cyber Group partners with France’s QuiDO! Entertainment, a producer of feature length animation, to launch the joint venture PixieDust Pictures to produce family-targeted movies. PixieDust Pictures projects in development include Ozie Boo! The magic shell, First Love, and two other projects to be announced.
- The company also enters into a co-production deal with French TV network Tiji for the new preschool series Ozie Boo! Saves the Planet (78×4). The ecology-centric CGI series is produced in partnership with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) France and based on Cyber Group’s Ozie Boo series. The series features a live-action documentary footage background. Set for release in fall 2010, Ozie Boo! Saves the Planet has been pre-sold to 50+ countries including Latin America, Canada, Norway, and the Middle East.
- The company inks a deal with Korean production company Sieun Design to develop and co-produce the CG animated series Academie Royale. Targeted to K5-8, the series revolves around three young heroines as they learn be princesses and still try to be kids.
- Cyber Group Studios also signs a worldwide distribution deal with Australia’s Burberry Productions for the CGI animated series Animalia (40×30). Based on the picture book by author Graeme Base, Animalia is produced for BBC, CBBC, Ten Network Australia, PBS and CBC. Under the agreement, Cyber Group Studios will handle the worldwide sales of TV, home video and licensing for the property.
MARKETING/LICENSING
Marvel Entertainment enters into a new multi-year licensing deal with Elmer’s Products to create products featuring Marvel’s super heroes in the arts and activity category. Under the deal, Elmer’s kid division, GiddyUp, will produce and market a range of products based on Marvel’s brands including Super Hero Squad, Spider-Man, and Marvel Studios’ feature films Iron Man 2 and Thor.
Cartoon Network Enterprises and Giftventure, which creates personalized treasure hunts, enter into a new licensing deal to create Bakugan and Ben 10 Alien Force adventures. Gift-givers can personalize their Giftventure treasure hunt, which is then delivered via mail to the recipient.
