Cynopsis: Kids!

11/07/08

Good morning. It’s Friday, November 7, 2008 and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Director/writer/producer John Boorman is set to direct a CG-animated adaptation of L. Frank Baum‘s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, per Variety.  This is Boorman’s first animated movie, and it is not a musical.  Set for release in summer 2010, this movie features a screenplay by Boorman, Ron Mita and Him McClain (Robots).  Produced the move are Laurent Rodon and Claude Gorvsky of France’s Films Actions and Boorman’s longtime producing partner Kieran Corrigan.

Jack Black is packing his bags and will wind up in Lilliput.  Black is set to star as Gulliver in director Rob Letterman‘s (Shark’s Tale) feature film adaptation of Jonathan Swift‘s book Gulliver’s Travels (1726) for Fox, according to Variety.  With a screenplay by Nicholas Stoller (director/Forgetting Sarah Marshal) and Joe Stillman (Shrek), Gulliver’s Travels is set to begin production in March 2009.  Producing the movie are Fox-based John Davis with Black’s production company Electric Dynamite.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Radio Disney offers up the world premiere of a new Hannah Montana song tonight, November 7 at 7p during the network’s Planet Premiere feature.   Performed by Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana, the song, It’s All Right Here, is one of ten new tunes to debut in the new season of the series.   Following the debut of It’s All Right Here tonight, kids are invited to comment on the song via an phone (1-888-327-7018).

MARKETING/LICENSING

Mega Brands and Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) expands their global licensing partnership to develop construction toys based on Nick Jr.’s preschool series The Wonder Pets! and Ni Hao, Kai-lan.  Under the newly extended deal, Mega Brands will develop construction play sets based on key characters and environments from both series, which will be available at retail beginning fall 2009.

McDonald’s launches One Minute to Move It, a worldwide kid-targeted initiative that encourages kids to discover what a difference one minute a day can make for their own well-being (e.g. dance, plant a flower, read, write etc.), beginning in North America today and rolling out around the world through Q1 2009.  The effort debuts in conjunction with the restaurant’s global Happy Meal promotion with DreamWorks Animation‘s feature film Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.  McDonald’s will support the campaign with TV commercials, interactive activities online, Happy Meals, in-restaurant displays and with healthy food options.  Additionally, Nickelodeon is producing a 30-second spot about McDonald’s One Minute to Move It, which will feature US Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson and will air on Nickelodeon, Nicktoons Network and Nic.com November 8-16.  Furthermore, when the initiative bows in Australia, Nickelodeon will be part of a One Minute to Move It event at Dreamworld theme park on December 15.

90210 returns to the toy aisle as CBS Consumer Products and Mattel enter into a partnership to create products based on the new 90210 CBS Paramount Network Television series, which airs Tuesdays at 8p on The CW.  The 90210 products are slated to be available at retail from September 2009.  Mattel’s initial Beverly Hills 90210 first hit the market in 1992 with a line of dolls based on characters from the show.

EXECUTIVE MOVES
