CYNTHIA TURNER’S
CYNOPSIS

11/05/04

Good morning. It’s Friday, November 5, 2004, and this is your first early morning briefing.

ABC had its usual stronghold on Wednesday night with an overall 5.1/13 A18-49 rating according to fast national ratings from Nielsen Media Research. CBS was #2 for the night with a 4.0/10, followed in quick succession by NBC 3.4/9, Fox 3.4/8, UPN 2.1/5, WB 1.7/4.  At 8pm ABC’s Lost dominated with a stunning 6.6/17, well ahead of #2 Fox with a 2.9/7 for its pair of 8-9p sitcoms.  Each of the other four networks all tied in the A18-49 demo with a 6 share. UPN’s Top Model found its highest rating among W18-34 with a 5.0/13, second only to ABC for the hour.  At 9pm NBC was in front with West Wing’s 4.4/11, followed closely by CBS’ 4.1/10, an average for King of Queens (4.4/10) and Center of the Universe (3.7/9). Fox and ABC each posted a 9 share for the 9-10p hour.  Jack and Bobby on the WB fell off its lead-in among A18-49, but increased its lead-in share among P12-17 by 2 points with a 2.6/9.  At 10p CBS’ CSI NY increased its 9-10p lead-in by 5 share point for an average of 5.5/15 for the hour. ABC’s Wife Swap was #2 for the hour with a 4.7/13, while NBC’s Law & Order posted a 3.3/9.

Shouldn’t even have to tell you this because you saw it coming from a million miles away — CBS has picked up CSI: New York (CBS Prods/Alliance Atlantis/Jerry Bruckheimer TV) for the full season, ordering the remaining 10 eps for a full season count.

Casting / Development / Production:

  • Michael Madsen has joined the cast of ESPN‘s new drama series Tilt (Touchstone Television) as Don Everest, nicknamed The Matador.  The series is set in the world of high stakes poker and the World Poker Championships in Las Vegas.  Tilt debuts on January 13 at 9pm.
  • Roger Bart will have a recurring role on ABC’s Desperate Housewives as a new neighbor on Wisteria Lane, a pharmacist.

E!‘s new reality series Love is in the Heir has been scheduled to make its primetime debut on November 28 at 10p, featuring Princess Ann Claire, granddaughter of HH Princess Shams of the Pahlavi Dynasty.  So here’s the deal: this 30-something Princess has everything – eldest of three girls, bonafide Royalty, and regal family in London – and her parents are about ready for this young lady to settle down.  Her idea is blue jeans, guitars and dreams of becoming a country music star while living in LA. Mummy and Daddy have issued an ultimatum: get a real job and a real man (subject to approval of course) before mid-December or else either move back home under their eagle eyes, or continue living in LA cut off financially. Therein lies a reality series.

ABC‘s daytime soaper All My Children (AMC) reached #1 status among W18-49 for the first time in three years for the week of October 25, tying with General Hospital and Days of Our Lives with a 2.2/13 demo rating.  For AMC, it was up 8% week to week, and up 12% vs. the same week a year ago, and beat Goliath daytimer The Young & the Restless by 1%.  According to ABC, the success this week was the story – a story that has fans of the show so wrapped up even Carol Burnett put in a call to the network to find out when the big story reveal would air so she wouldn’t miss it.

Univision’s
newest reality series Lo Veremos Todo con Niurka y Bobby (Life with Niurka and Bobby) features the life and times of celebrity newlyweds Niurka Marcos and Bobby Larios, debuting on November 9 at 10p. Cameras all over the house will record their lives, their children, their pets, extended family and friends, the good and the bad and the real life of this couple.
