Cynopsis: Kids!

11/10/06

Good morning. It’s  Friday, November  10, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

The N has begun production on The Best Years (working title), a new 1hr drama, produced by Blueprint Entertainment in association with CanWest MediaWorks.  Created and executive produced by Aaron Martin, who served as head writer/show runner on Degrassi: The Next Generation, The Best Years revolves around Samantha Best, a college freshman who has a full scholarship.  An orphan, Samantha has spent much of her life in the foster care system and she is excited to make new friends and define who she is  of course college life is complicated with friends, enemies, roommates, sports, part-time jobs and school work and a ton of other stuff.  The Best Years is slated to make its debut summer 2007 on The N (US) and on CH Television (Canada). Blueprint Entertainment controls distribution rights for the series in all territories outside the US.

The Weinstein Company has picked up the North American rights to the French CG animated movie Piccolo, Saxo and Company, from Films Distribution.  The movie is based on Andre Popp’s 1956 musical property, which was used in French schools to help educate kids about music.  As the title hints the movie features a group of musical instruments, which want to create an orchestra but in order to do that they must go in search of musical notes and other instruments which were taken by an evil doer.  Set to debut in French movie theaters December 20, 2006.  Produced by Millimages and Haut & Court, Piccolo, Saxo and Company was directed by Marco Villamizar, from a screenplay by Isabelle De Catalogne and Juliette Sales.

The domestic distribution rights to the live-action Bratz: The Movie, based on the dolls of the same name, have been picked up by Lionsgate, per Variety.  Additionally, Lionsgate will also hold the exclusive North American home entertainment rights to the animated Bratz movies, which are slated to be direct-to-DVD releases.
