~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

NBC is moving The Listener off of Thursdays at 10p and replacing it with Law and Order encores starting July 30. The Listener posted a 0.7/2 among A18-49 last Thursday on NBC and the network has decided to air the remaining five episodes next month via NBC.com. The drama about a telepathic paramedic is imported from Canada and produced in collaboration by Shaftesbury Films, Canadian broadcaster CTV, NBC and Fox International Channels. The Listener will continue to air on CTV Thursday nights and on the Canadian sci-fi cable channel, Space. NBC also announced it will slot the new hospital drama Mercy on Wednesdays at 8p beginning September 23. Originally, Parenthood was scheduled to air in this time period but has been moved to midseason due to star Maura Tierney’s health situation.

BET showcases eight rising new artists in the field of music with Rising Icons, a new TV series presented by Grey Goose Entertainment premiering July 27 at 1030p. Each of the eight 30m episodes introduces a different artist at home and on the road to stardom including Chrisette Michele, Hal Linton, Keri Hilson, Kid Cudi, Melanie Fiona, Ryan Leslie, The-Dream and Wale. BET Networks produces the series.

On Wednesday, TNT debuted the second season of Leverage at 9p attracting 3.9 million total viewers. Following at 10p, TNT premiered its new series Dark Blue starring Dylan McDermott which held most of its lead-in audience by delivering 3.5 million total viewers.

TiVo filed an infringement lawsuit against DISH Network and EchoStar, seeking almost $1 billion in damages based on the Time Warp DVR technology patent case dispute between the companies, per Interactive TV Today. Last month, TiVo sought sanctions against the satellite operators for continued infringement on its Time Warp patent, and both DISH and EchoStar were ruled in contempt of court for doing so. DISH and EchoStar wanted to delay the hearing on sanctions pending their appeal of the contempt ruling. A hearing has been scheduled for July 28 and the presiding judge also ordered DISH to disengage approximately 4 million of its DVRs and to pay TiVo $103 million including interest in damages. A US appeals court allowed DISH a stay of the order to disable the DVRs.

Since the DTV switch on June 12, Nielsen reported this week 200,000 more US homes have made the transition to digital television in the last two weeks. To date, though 1.5 million or 1.3% of the US are still unable to receive digital TV signals through the week ending July 12.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Worming into celebrity Twitter accounts is one thing. Falling victim to a hacker, who was able to access sensitive corporate information through an employee’s email account, is quite another. Twitter is not the only site to be exposed to hackers, only the latest to raise questions about security measures that well-trafficked portals should take. This latest Twitter hack appears to have been the result of guessing the password of company co-founder Evan Williams via the GoogleApps service, according to reports. The cracked password allowed the hacker to access company finances, biz dev plans, spreadsheets and personal info., including details of his wife’s computer. The hacker went so far as to send some of the juicy details to two prominent tech blogs – TechCrunch in S.F. and Korben in France and TechCrunch published a document that pegs Twitter’s revenues at $1.54 billion by 2013. (By this time, Twitter hopes to have a billion users worldwide.) Analysts shrugged off the projections as “overly optimistic,” in the words of eMarketer’s Paula Verna. Security experts utilized the whole affair to remind users to choose their passwords carefully and to remind IT departments to beef up encryption efforts.   Full edition: CYN DIGITAL

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  The wait is over as Hasbro and Discovery Communications tap kid’s entertainment industry veteran Margaret Loesch to serve as President and CEO of their new joint kid-targeted TV network.  Slated to launch in fall 2010, the still un-named network will be available to approximately 60 million US households in the Discovery Kids channel position.  Loesch officially takes on her new role next month and will be based in LA.  Most recently co-founder and CEO of the kids/family media company The Hatchery, Loesch was previously President and CEO, Fox Kids Network, Worldwide, and President and CEO, Crown Media US and its US Hallmark Channel.  She also served as EVP/Hanna-Barbera Productions, President and CEO, Marvel Productions and President/Television, Worldwide of The Him Henson Group.  Announced this spring, the new Hasbro-Discovery channel and online component will feature original content based on Hasbro properties, including animation, game shows and live-action series and specials, as well as content from Discovery Kids’ library and shows from third-party producers.  The Discovery Kids channel will continue to run until the new channel takes over in 2010.  Discovery plans to hang onto the Discovery Kids brand for use on its ongoing international TV networks and its licensing and merchandising program.  Full edition: CYN KIDS
