Cynopsis: Kids!
2/16/07

Good morning. It’s Friday, February 16, 2007 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

In an effort to spark a worldwide movement to thwart the deterioration of the Earth’s climate, former Vice President Al Gore, executive producer Kevin Wall (Live 8) and a number of celebrities and the MSN Network gathered yesterday at the California Science Center to launch Save Our Selves (SOS) – The Campaign for a Climate in Crisis, and Live Earth, a 24-hour global concert event set to take place on July 7, 2007 (7/7/07) across all 7 continents.   Live Earth will feature 100+ top music acts including Pharrell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, Snoop Dogg, John Legend, black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, AFI, John Mayer, Melissa Etheridge, Faith Hill w/ Tim McGraw, Duran Duran, Kelly Clarkson, Enrique Iglesias and Korn among others. Concerts will take place in Brazil, Shanghai, Japan, Johannesburg, London, Sydney, and in US’ East Coast.  SOS has partnered with MSN to make Live Earth, as well as climate-themed educational media, available to 2+ billion people through TV, film, radio and the internet.  More information can be found at http://liveearth.msn.com

MORE KIDS STUFF

The second season of live action comedy series Genie in the House has been jointly commissioned by Nickelodeon U.K. and France’s Canal J.  The second season (26×30) from Moi j’aime la telévision and Helion Pictures will air in fall 2007.  AB Distribution reps the series internationally and will bring both seasons (52 eps) to this April’s MIPTV. Genie in the House is about the absurd and funny situations two girls find themselves in when they find an old lamp and its teenage genie.

The N launches Trendetta, its first online multiplayer game that allows players to compete and chat with one another in real time on The-N.com this Monday, February 19.  In Trendetta teens vie for trend supremacy as they pick and choose what is hot … or not for all sorts of fads in various categories.

Corus Entertainment has launched the virtual world The Big Rip, a new network of massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) that is targeted to tweens in North America.  The Big Rip provides players with a real time community where they can explore, play, talk, compete, collect, create and customize characters.  The beta version of The Big Rip includes the flagship game community, GalaXseeds, the first of several worlds slated to launch.  Created by Corus in association with Firma Studio Inc., The Big Rip is a free to join and designed specifically to address tween safety, and thus follows strict privacy policies. The online worlds are accessible via www.thebigrip.com and www.galaseeds.com .

MARKETING/LICENSING

Warner Bros. Consumer Products has entered into a deal with Heatherette, an apparel label, to produce junior apparel based on The Wizard of Oz. Slated to be available at retail this fall 2007, the line includes T-Shirts, sportswear and accessories.  The Wizard of Oz junior line was introduced during New York’s Fashion Week earlier this month, with quite the risqué fashion show that had little to do with the actual line but featured the designers’ Wizard of Oz themed couture visions (read: fun/wild but won’t be sold).  The junior line is currently being shown at the MAGIC fashion trade show being held in Las Vegas.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Mark Horak has been named EVP & GM/Worldwide Operations and New Packaged Media, Warner Home Video.  Horak will oversee worldwide marketing, sales, supply chain and operations as well as being responsible for the teams handling pre-production, category management and business and legal affairs for the division.  Additionally, he will head WHV’s efforts to promote mainstream adoption of the high definition DVD formats.  Horak joined WHV in 1995 and most recently served as EVP and GM/Asia, Pacific and Latin America and prior to that he was EVP/Worldwide Marketing. Previously he held marketing positions with Dole, RJR Nabisco and StarKist Seafoods.
