Cynopsis: Kids!
08/14/09
Good morning. It’s Friday, August 14, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Cartoon Network gives the go ahead on two new original animated series, Regular Show and Horrorbots, as well as picking up new episodes of The Marvelous MisAdventures of Flapjack and commissions additional scripts for Adventure Time.
- Regular Show follows two bored groundskeepers and best pals, Mordecai (a six-foot-tall blue jay) and Rigby (a hyperactive raccoon) who try to entertain themselves any way they can, much to the displeasure of their boss, Benson (who is a gumball machine), and to the delight of Pops (an older, lollipop-headed man). Their antics often spin out of control and into the surreal. Created by J. G. Quintel, the series was developed as a short for Cartoon Network’s Cartoonstitute and will be produced at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank.
- Horrorbots revolves around Thrasher and Blastus, two outsider teen droids who must face the ultimate challenge – high school! With the desire to fit in, the two meet with varying degrees of success. Created by Michael Buckley (The Sisters Grimm) and Joe Deasy and co-executive produced by Christy Karacas (Superjail), Horrorbots will be produced in NY.
- The network will produce additional episodes of The Marvelous MisAdventures of Flapjack for a total of 46×30. The series is created by Thurop Van Orman and produced at Cartoon Network Studios.
- An additional season of scripts is ordered for Adventure Time. Created by Pendleton Ward, executive produced by Fred Siebert and Derek Drymon, the series is produced at Cartoon Network Studios and scheduled to premiere in 2010.
Mark Thomas and Elsinore Films are set to bring UK theater company Shakespeare 4 Kidz‘s (S4K) teen-targeted musical versions of Shakespeare’s plays to the big screen in 3D. The first movie in the six-picture deal will be a 3D musical adaptation of Hamlet, which will be directed by John Godber. Thomas will serve as producer on all six pictures along with S4K’s Julian Chenery as co-producer, with Executive Producer Michael Cowan, co-MD of production company Spice Factory and distributor Stealth Media Group. The first three S4K movies will be produced back-to-back over an 18-month period, with Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet following Hamlet. The second set of movies will include adaptations of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Twelfth Night and The Tempest. S4K’s Hamlet will be distributed internationally and in the UK by Stealth Media, which is also releasing the 3D version of Garfield Petforce. Alongside the movies, Elsinore has developed a TV show, Movie Quest A Romeo 4 Juliet, which is a search to find two new young actors to star as Romeo and Juliet.
