ABC handed out 12 early 2009-2010 pick-up renewals for many of its tried-and-true primetime series including America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Bachelor, Brothers & Sisters, Dancing with the Stars, Desperate Housewives, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Private Practice, Supernanny, Ugly Betty and Wife Swap.

NBC’s The Tonight Show had to cancel tapings yesterday and today, as host Jay Leno was hospitalized. Leno was taken to Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Burbank, with presumed food poisoning symptoms. His condition, not being serious, should allow him to resume work on Monday.

Spike TV renewed upcoming new seasons of two of its original series:

  • 1000 Ways To Die received a 13-episode order including the pilot episode. The new episodes will document more true stories about the outrageous ways people die. From Original Productions with Thom Beers and Philip Segal as executive producers. Premiere date TBA.
  • Spike’s late-night male trivia series MANswers is back for a third season with 10 new episodes, featuring re-enactments, experts and man-on-the-street interviews. MANswers is produced by Fujisankei Communications International with Akifumi Takuma and Michael Schelp as executive producers, in association with Super Delicious LLC with Adam Cohen, Cara Tapper and Joanna Vernetti as executive producers and Michael J. Miller, executive producer. Premiere date TBA.

Making it official, USA Network picked up the original series White Collar (wt) from Fox Television Studios about the unusual partnership between a con artist and an FBI agent. Starring Matthew Bomer, Tim DeKay, Tiffani Thiessen and Willie Garson the series will be shot on location in New York and will open with a 90-minute episode with thirteen 60m subsequent episodes. Jeff Eastin created White Collar and is executive producer.

BBC America opens a new US premiere season of Primeval beginning May 16 at 9p. New cast members include Jason Flemying (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Laila Rouass (Footballers Wive$) as well as a new beast designed by a fan of the show.

Capturing the spirit of the game, GOLF CHANNEL introduces a new original hi-def series Golf In America, premiering June 23 at 10p. Hosted by actor Anthony Anderson, the 10-episode series relates real stories about real people, from celebrities such as Justin Timberlake to soldiers in Iraq who are all attracted to the game of golf.

Finding big hair and bigger attitudes, The Style Network travels to Dallas with its newest unscripted docu-series exploring the bonds between rich socialite mothers and their debutante daughters in Mothers and Daughters of Dallas (wt). In this eight-episode series with a planned fall debut, Style will go inside the exclusive lifestyles of several different mother/daughter duos where clubs and social events to shopping and gossip prevail, revealing the real and strong ties that bind them together. The series was developed by Allison Grodner Productions and Allison Grodner serves as executive producer with Peter Tartaglia as co-executive producer.

SNY, television home for the New York Jets, New York Mets and the Big East Conference, enhanced its television and marketing relationship with the New York Jets. The new multi-year deal involves more access and exclusive year-round coverage of players, coaches and franchise executives. SNY was also granted the rights to distribute content on SNY.tv. This new agreement involving more coverage begins this Saturday at 1130a with Jets Nation: Draft Day 09.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Amazon bucked the slumping online retail trend reporting a 24% increase in profits from a year ago, but warned investors not to expect such growth during Q2. Net income totaled $177 million and revenue climbed 18% to $4.89 billion. The company didn’t break out numbers for the much-ballyhooed Kindle 2, but did note that sales “exceeded our most optimistic expectations.” The Seattle area’s other big tech powerhouse Microsoft didn’t fare as well. Net income fell by 32% to $3 billion for FYQ3 amid a global slowdown in the PC market. Analysts continue to worry that leaner and cheaper netbook computers will result in much lower margins for Microsoft as they require only stripped down versions of the Windows OS.   Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Not only are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles turning 25, rights owner/manager The Mirage Group is developing a new live-action feature film slated for release in 2011.  The new movie, the fifth big-screen Turtles adventure, will focus on the origins of the heroes in a half shell.  Mirage is partnering with producers Scott Mednick (300, Superman Returns, 10,000 BC, and the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are) and Galen Walker (the most recent CG TMNT movie) for the new live action film. The movie is being funded through Lightbox Productions.  4Kids Entertainment, master licensing agency for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property, will handle all the movie merchandise licensing.  Additional info can be found at www.tmnt25.com and www.4kids.tv.   Full edition: CYN KIDS.
