Cynopsis
4/20/07
Good morning, it’s Friday, April 20, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
Reactions were mixed yesterday as to NBC News’ decision to air portions of the material the network received Wednesday from Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia Tech shooter. Even though other print, online and broadcast news divisions disseminated the material, NBC News seemed to shoulder the brunt of the criticism about whether or not it was appropriate to air the shooter’s video and spoken words. Several parents and other people connected to the tragedy scheduled to appear on NBC’s Today Thursday morning, cancelled their interviews in protest against NBC News. NBC’s statement in response to the public reaction reads in part:
“We believe [the video] provides some answers to the critical question, ‘Why did this man carry out these awful murders?’The decision to run this video was reached by virtually every news organization in the world, as evidenced by coverage on television, on Web sites and in newspapers. We have covered this story and our unique role in it with extreme sensitivity, underscored by our devoted efforts to remember and honor the victims and heroes of this tragic incident. We are committed to nothing less.”

Saturday’s Premieres:
TLC: The Real Deal at 9p
