Disney eliminated several hundred positions Tuesday in the company’s third round of layoffs this year, following restructuring waves in January and April.

The cuts spanned Disney Entertainment Television, ESPN, Pixar, and — hardest hit of all, per The Hollywood Reporter — Nat Geo.
ESPN bore some of the most visible damage. Ryan Clark learned he was out while live on air for “NFL Live,” according to The Athletic, after ESPN rushed the news when word threatened to leak. Clark never came back from the commercial break.
About 12 ABC News employees were impacted, according to Deadline.
The cuts reflect ongoing reorganization, particularly at ESPN, where the recent NFL Network acquisition is reshaping staffing and talent needs across the network’s programming lineup.

The sharks are circling — and so are the brands. Who’s taking the bait? Warner Bros. Discovery has unveiled its advertising partners for Shark Week 2026. Some highlights:

Costa Sunglasses is going all-in with a cross-platform campaign, including a Discovery+ takeover and an interactive streaming experience.
Juggernaut Wines gets arguably the most fun activation: a branded presence at WBD’s “Jaws” screening in Martha’s Vineyard. Sipping wine at the filming location that started it all? That’s a marketer having a good time.
Universal Pictures returns with a stunt night for DreamWorks’ “Forgotten Island,” while Disney Studios landed its own stunt night spotlighting 20th Century Studios’ “Whalefall.”
Shark Week kicks off Sunday, July 26 at 8 p.m. on Discovery Channel.

Amazon MGM Studios is bringing “RoboCop” back — this time as a series. Nearly four decades after the 1987 sci-fi classic first had audiences rooting for a half-man, half-machine cop, the franchise is getting a small-screen revival on Prime Video.

Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, called RoboCop “a sharp, provocative mirror of our relationship with technology and power” — and said the new series aims to honor that legacy while feeling fresh and urgent for modern audiences.
Showrunner Peter Ocko is crafting the vision, with horror maestro James Wan and the Blumhouse Atomic Monster team bringing their cinematic flair to the project.
In other words: expect satire, steel, and probably a whole lot of bullets.

The apocalypse is getting a premiere date: “Eons: Life and Death on Pangea” drops Wednesday, July 29 on PBS (check local listings). The series dives into the “Great Dying” — Earth’s most catastrophic mass extinction, which wiped out over 80 percent of all species on the planet.

HBO’s “Hard Knocks” is heading to Seattle. The training camp series returns Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 9 p.m. with the Seahawks as its subject. The five-episode run wraps Sept. 1 — and marks the first time the franchise will document the defending Super Bowl champion since it launched in 2001 with the Baltimore Ravens.

British presenter Holly Willoughby has a new lifestyle series debuting Tuesday, July 28 on YouTube, reports Deadline. “Holly Willoughby Together” will air twice a week. Willoughby left ITV’s daytime show “This Morning” in 2023.

Team Whistle is putting the next generation on notice. The DAZN company is launching “No Days Off: Up Next Class of 2026,” a YouTube docuseries following 16 elite young athletes across 10 sports, from football and basketball to skateboarding, gymnastics, and flag football. New episodes will drop weekly this fall.

The wreckage of Pan Am’s long-lost airliner Clipper Endeavor was located with an assist from Discovery Channel’s “Expedition Unknown.”

The show partnered with Air/Sea Heritage Foundation and Deep Sea Vision to locate the wreck, which crashed off Puerto Rico in 1952, killing 52 of 69 people aboard.
Found at nearly 2,000 feet below the Atlantic on June 2, the Douglas DC-4 still bears its Pan Am logo.
The crash — known in Puerto Rico as “La Tragedia del Viernes Santo” — led to today’s mandatory preflight safety briefing.
The full story will air on “Expedition Unknown” later this year.

“1000-Lb. Roomies” and “1000-Lb. Sisters” return Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m. and Tuesday, September 1 at 9 p.m., respectively, on TLC.

Manhattan’s messiest friend group is back. Bravo’s “Real Housewives of New York City” returns for season 16 on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 8 p.m.

Y’all better set your alarms! “The Beverly Hillbillies” (1962-71) is coming to FETV. The sitcom will debut Monday, Aug. 3 and air weekdays at 8:10 a.m. in its original, uncut format.

Sports Studio struck a deal with TheSoul Group to distribute its Free Live Sports content across YouTube and social platforms. The partnership is designed to expand the flagship brand’s audience and revenue beyond its connected TV footprint, with a YouTube-first approach extending its live and on-demand programming to a broader fan base.

Telemundo is wasting no time building on the momentum of its blockbuster FIFA World Cup coverage — the network nabbed exclusive Spanish-language media rights in the U.S. for all Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)) men’s club competitions. Joaquin Duro, executive vice president of sports and head of streaming at NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, tells Cynopsis what’s next.

Cynopsis: What kind of original programming around the matches, such as studio shows or shoulder content, are in the works?

JOAQUIN DURO: We’re already hard at work building what will be the most comprehensive Spanish-language presentation of UEFA club football in the U.S.

The FIFA World Cup reinforced the value fans place on comprehensive, multiplatform coverage that extends well beyond the 90 minutes on the pitch. Throughout the tournament, we surrounded every match with original programming, expert analysis, behind-the-scenes storytelling and digital content, and that’s the philosophy we’ll bring to UEFA’s club competitions.

We’ll share additional details closer to launch, but our goal is to deliver the same high-quality, immersive viewing experience fans have come to expect from Telemundo across broadcast, streaming and digital platforms.

How do you see the Spanish-language sports rights market evolving over the next five years, and how does this deal position Telemundo in that landscape?

Soccer’s momentum in the U.S. continues to accelerate, and Hispanic audiences remain at the center of that growth. At the same time, we’re seeing fans from every background embrace Spanish-language coverage because of its authenticity, passion and unique viewing experience.

The tremendous audience response to our FIFA World Cup coverage reinforced the growing demand for premium Spanish-language soccer, and this agreement builds on that momentum.

As fan expectations continue to evolve, we’re focused on delivering the kind of immersive coverage that keeps audiences connected to the sport all year long.

Were you competing against other bidders, and what ultimately made Telemundo the winning partner for UEFA?

Although we don’t comment on the bidding process, what I can say is that we’re incredibly proud UEFA selected Telemundo as its exclusive Spanish-language partner in the U.S.

This agreement reflects our long-term commitment to soccer, our ability to deliver world-class, multiplatform coverage, and our track record of serving Hispanic audiences with authentic storytelling and innovative viewing experiences.

“A Spoonful of Christmas,” a new original movie, is set to premiere as part of Great American Media’s sixth annual Great American Christmas. The film will have its streaming launch on Great American Pure Flix, and air on Great American Family and GFAM+ starting in October.

Miami’s bringing the heat this fall. Telemundo and Peacock will air the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony live on Thursday, Oct. 22, coinciding with Billboard Latin Music Week (Oct. 19-22).
