Walt Disney Co. stock hit a 6-month high on Friday, a day after the media giant reported upbeat earnings. Disney stock closed at $115.07 per share on November 15. While Disney has had to deal with the decline of its linear networks and rising sports rights costs, an optimistic streaming forecast and strong box office from “Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Inside Out 2” helped cheer investors. Chairman and CEO Bob Iger said the media giant has targeted $1 billion in streaming profits for fiscal 2025.
Warner Bros. Discovery has settled its breach of contract lawsuit against the NBA, reports The Wall Street Journal. WBD will not retain its rights to regular and postseason games for TNT after this season, but a new deal gives the company the ability to develop new shows with NBA content in the US and abroad, and international NBA rights in parts of Northern Europe and Latin America. Warner Bros. Discovery sued the league in July after it signed an 11-year rights deal with ESPN, NBCUniversal and Amazon, alleging the league violated a matching-rights clause.
Netflix reports the livestream of its Mike Tyson versus Jake Paul fight had 60 million households tuning in, and peaked at 65 million concurrent streams. The co-main event of Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano was watched by nearly 50 million households, making it “likely to be the most watched professional women’s sporting event in US history,” said the streamer. The event was Netflix’s first time streaming a live sports event, and 85,000 viewers reported experiencing issues, according to Down Detector. “The boxing mega-event dominated social media, shattered records and even had our buffering systems on the ropes,” acknowledged Netflix.

A reboot of “Friday Night Lights” is in early development stages at Universal Television, according to Variety. Showrunner Jason Katims will return as will executive producer Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment. Imagine’s Kristen Zolner will also executive produce. “The new production will focus on a new story with new characters set in the universe of high school football. The original “Friday Night Lights” ran from 2006-2011 on NBC.

The third season of FOX’s celebrity social experiment, “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” returns for a special five-week event starting January 8 at 8p. This time around, the recruits will be training in Wales, the home of British Special Forces Selection. Taking on training challenges that include a high-pressure hostage rescue and a ladder crossing between steep cliffs, among others, are Nathan Adrian, Stephen Baldwin, Alana Blanchard, Landon Donovan, Carey Hart, Brody Jenner, Marion Jones, Ali Manno, Cam Newton, Kayla Nicole, Kyla Pratt, Denise Richards, Christy Carlson Romano, Trista Sutter, Golden Tate and Jordyn Wieber.
Season three of Prime Video’s “Coach Prime” drops Tuesday, January 7, with the show transitioning from a weekly to a binge release. Internet service provider Brightspeed is giving its customers the one-time gift of cheaper streaming service this holiday season, with $20 Brightspeed Streaming Credits. Customers can activate the streaming credits through MyBundle, which is available to all Brightspeed fiber customers. Customers will have until December 31, 2024, to activate their $20 credit and until December 31, 2025, to use it.
MyOutdoorTV said plays on its YouTube TV/Prime Channels grew by 46% from January to October. In addition, MyOutdoorTV grew plays on Roku by 11% during the period. |
