You can’t make everyone happy. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher had a few words for “contrarians” who have criticized the union’s tentative deal, reached last week after a 118-day strike. “Sadly there have been some naysayers who have exploited this momentum of ours,” she said in a video on Monday, adding that throughout the negotiations there were people who “tried to tear down what was being done.” The contract’s ratification process began Monday.

With the Hollywood strikes in the rearview mirror, CBS confirmed its midseason slate starting the week of February 11. First up is new drama “Tracker,” which will premiere as planned in the prime post-Super Bowl slot. Reboot “Matlock,” starring Kathy Bates, and comedy “Poppa’s House,” starring Damon Wayans Jr., have moved to the 2024-25 season.

Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign is planning to invest $10 million in advertising across Iowa and New Hampshire starting the first week of. The goal is to see Haley overtake Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the nomination fight. “Nikki Haley’s momentum and path to victory are clear,” said Haley’s campaign manager Betsy Ankney. “The same can’t be said for Ron DeSantis, who, even with a decent showing in Iowa, can’t afford a cup of coffee at the Red Arrow diner in New Hampshire and is a mere tourist in South Carolina.”

The Emmy Awards ceremony airing January 15 on Fox will include 25 categories. Variety Special (Live) has made it back to the main telecast, while Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, which had been alternating at the big show, will both be presented at the Creative Arts Emmys.

Netflix renewed reality show “Queer Eye” for season nine, set in Las Vegas. The upcoming eighth season – the last for Bobby Berk, who announced he is leaving – will again be set in New Orleans, and debut January 24.

Denzel Washington will star in an Untitled Hannibal wartime feature for Netflix, directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan (“Gladiator”). It’s a reunion for Washington and Fuqua, who teamed for “Training Day” and “The Equalizer.”

CNN announced new hires, including former intern Elisa Raffa as weather anchor and correspondent; Vice News alum Hanako Montgomery as Tokyo-based correspondent; former Variety chief correspondent Elizabeth Wagmeister as a correspondent based in LA; and Julia Benbrook, who joins CNN Newsource after serving as an on-air correspondent for Spectrum News.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

“Hard Knocks: In Season with the Miami Dolphins” kicks off Tuesday, November 21 at 9p on HBO. New episodes will debut Tuesdays through January 9, and then subsequent Tuesdays for the duration of a potential Dolphins postseason run.

A new season of HGTV’s “Home Town” launches Sunday, January 7 at 8p. But first, hosts Erin and Ben Napier spread cheer in special “Home Town Holidays” on Sunday, December 17 at 8p.

Game show “Blank Slate” premieres Monday, January 8 on Game Show Network. Based on the board game, the fill-in-the-blank format hosted by Mario Lopez will air weekdays.

Historical mysteries are explored in “Lost Cities Revealed with Albert Lin,” launching Thursday, November 23 at 9p on Nat Geo. The six-part series uses cutting-edge technology to strip back layers of time in places like Mexican jungles and deserts in Sudan.

COMING UP

Paramount+ documentary “June,” profiling country music star June Carter Cash, starts streaming Tuesday, January 16. “I am thrilled to share the full story of my mother’s life with the world,” said John Carter Cash, the only son of June and Johnny Cash. “Thank you to Sony Music Entertainment and Sandbox Productions for finding a place for it to live and to Paramount+ for giving it a home.”

Documentary “Inside Track: The Business of Formula 1,” a behind-the-scenes analysis of the business behind the racing series, premieres Thursday, November 16 at 8p on CNBC.

Larry Wilmore will host the Hollywood, Health & Society’s 2023 Sentinel Awards, taking place Wednesday, December 6 at the Writer’s Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. The awards honor TV entertainment that responsibly inform audiences on topics including systemic racism, A.I., the climate crisis, diplomacy, reproductive health, mental health, economic disparities, and more.

The TCM Classic Cruise will set sail from October 26 – 31, 2024, aboard the Disney Magic. TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz will again serve as host for the voyage, and the cruise will offer TCM-themed events and activities, including appearances by classic film stars, movie screenings, presentations with film experts, Q&A sessions and more.

TECH

Google is taking legal action against two groups of scammers, shared the company in a blog post. The first group created social media pages and ran ads that encouraged people to “download” Bard, Google’s generative AI tool that does not need to be downloaded. The ads instead led people to download malware that compromised their social media accounts. The second lawsuit targets bad actors abusing the DMCA by using bogus copyright takedowns to harm competitors.

acTVe has selected Amagi as the playout, distribution, and monetization partner for five of its syndicated sports channels. “We chose Amagi as our playout partner because they provide the superior technology required to deliver broadcast-level quality,” said Geoff Clark, CEO of acTVe. “Amagi’s solutions give us the flexibility to compete with major broadcasters with live sports capabilities on our channels, further enriching the viewer experience.”

The National Retail Federation and CNBC announced the launch of the monthly “CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor,” powered by Affinity Solutions. The CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor uses actual, real-time debit and credit card purchase data to provide more insights into retail sales activity. “The CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor will provide comprehensive, granular and timely insights that measure monthly retail sales and gauge the state of the retail industry, the consumer and the broader economy,” said NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay. “The CNBC/NRF Retail Monitor will modernize how retail sales are tracked and measured, and Affinity Solutions’ vast dataset of how, what and where the consumer is spending will identify how key demographics and channels are performing for the industry generally and for specific retail sectors.”

Starting this week, NBC News Now is simulcasting the UK’s “Sky News Today with Wilfred Frost” weekdays at 5a. It’s the streamer’s first program originating outside the US, but Frost should be no stranger to viewers – he’s a contributor to NBC News, CNBC and MSNBC.

Major League Fishing expanded its partnership with offboard engine manufacturer Suzuki Marine USA, which will now serve as an Official Co-Exclusive Engine Sponsor of the MLF Bass Pro Tour and MLF5 circuits. The season two finale of “Loki” drew 11.2 million global views over three days, up 3% from the season premiere on Disney+.

The return of Food Network’s “Holiday Baking Championship” delivered a 1.03 P18+ / 1.47 W18+ Live+3 rating, up +66% and +65% respectively versus prior six-weeks benchmarks, marking the network’s highest Monday prime rating year to date. Tuesday night’s return of “Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown” posted a 0.60 P25-54 / 0.79 W25-54 Live+3 rating, up +18% and +23%.

SailGP saw the largest American television audience in league history when 1.78 million viewers tuned in to a CBS broadcast of the Spain Sail Grand Prix on Sunday, November 5. The event, which was capped off by the US SailGP Team earning its first victory in Season 4, saw a 9% increase in viewership over last year’s SailGP event in Spain and marked the most-watched sailing race in the US since 1992.
