Fox is heading back to the beach: the network has handed a 12-episode, straight-to-series order to a reimagined “Baywatch,” produced by Fremantle and Fox Entertainment. Set to premiere in the 2026–27 season, the new take revives the iconic lifeguard drama that NBC canceled after one season in 1990 before it went on to become a worldwide syndication hit and inspire a 2017 feature film. “Together, Fox and Fremantle, along with Matt Nix and original co-creator Greg Bonann, will bring the California dream to a whole new generation of fans with fresh stories, rising stars and all the spectacle that make the ‘Baywatch’ franchise a global sensation,” said Michael Thorn, President of Fox Television Network.

Football drove the only share increases for companies in Nielsen’s August Media Distributor Gauge. Disney rose to 9.7% of TV watch-time in August (+0.3 share points vs. July), with football coverage boosting ABC affiliates by 4% and lifting ESPN by 25%. The impact on Fox affiliates was a 14% monthly uptick, leading Fox to represent 6.7% of TV (+0.2 points). And that’s before football really kicked off in September.

The day after Sinclair announced it was not airing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on its ABC-affiliated stations despite ABC lifting the show’s suspension, Nexstar followed suit. On Tuesday, the station group said in a statement, “We made a decision last week to preempt ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel’s ‘ill-timed and insensitive’ comments at a critical time in our national discourse. We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.” Nexstar noted that the show would be available on multiple Disney-owned streaming products, while its stations “focus on continuing to produce local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets.” Together, Nextstar and Sinclair control over 20% of ABC’s local affiliates.

In the wake of the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, Apple TV+ has delayed the debut of “The Savant.” The thriller stars Jessica Chastain as an undercover investigator who infiltrates online hate groups to stop domestic extremists. “After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone ‘The Savant,’” said a statement from the streamer. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.” The series had been slated to premiere on September 28; no new date has been set.

MTV has canceled “Catfish: The TV Show” after 12 years and nine seasons. The reality show investigated deceptive online romances.

Disney is raising the monthly prices of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ next month, by $2 to $3. The hikes hit on October 21 for new subscribers.

Kroger Precision Marketing, powered by 84.51°, has launched a suite of new managed-service offsite programmatic capabilities. An in-house team will activate across programmatic audio, programmatic CTV, and dynamic creative optimization for display. “CPG brands are under increasing pressure to deliver relevant messages at scale,” said Christine Foster, SVP at Kroger Precision Marketing. “These programmatic solutions enable more marketers to build emotional connections with new households.”

Clear Channel Outdoor struck a strategic partnership with Vistar Media to monetize its DOOH displays, with an initial rollout across its portfolio of 55 US airports. By integrating Vistar’s technology across its digital display network, brands can now launch and target campaigns in real-time, shifting from manual to automated processes. “Integrating Vistar’s ad server platform with our nationwide digital out-of-home network will create a more seamless experience for brands to launch targeted campaigns that drive the business outcomes they’re looking to achieve,” said Nichole Boatsman, Chief Technology Officer, Clear Channel Outdoor.

Telemundo announced the schedule for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, kicking off Saturday, September 27 at 3:55p with matches airing on Telemundo, Universo and Telemundo Deportes Ahora. US Under-20 Youth National Team starts the month-long tournament on Monday, September 29 with a match against New Caledonia, then faces France on Thursday, October 2 and closes the group stage with South Africa on Sunday, October 5.

ESPN’s coverage of NCAA men’s and women’s ice hockey will total more than 620 games during the 2025-26 season, including the Men’s and Women’s Frozen Four championship events. Games will be available to stream on the ESPN App via ESPN. The first game of the season across ESPN networks takes place Friday, October 17.

Prime Video announced that Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall-of-Famer Swin Cash, former NBA players Rudy Gay and Jim Jackson, and broadcast journalist JayDee Dyer will join the lineup for the inaugural season of “NBA on Prime.”

YA horror movie “R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead” premieres on Tubi on Friday, October 17. The film is based on Stine’s The Haunting Hour.

The elves return in “Prep & Landing: The Snowball Protocol,” a new Christmas special debuting Thanksgiving, November 27 at 7p on Disney Channel. The show will also reach across Disney+, ABC and Freeform.

CBS fall campaign “Tuesdays of Honor,” presented by the network, “NCIS” and Lovesac in partnership with VIZIO, will salute heroes who have served the country. The campaign provides veteran/military families and Gold Star families with family room comfort upgrades. “At CBS, we believe in the power of storytelling to connect, comfort and honor – a spirit that lives at the heart of our ‘NCIS ‘series,” said Mike Benson, President and CMO at CBS. “We aim to extend those values beyond the screen, bringing meaningful recognition and warmth into the homes of veterans, military families and Gold Star families.”

ESPN Africa linear channels will be available to South African customers at no extra cost starting October 2. “The launch of the ESPN Africa linear channels on Disney+ in South Africa reflects our strategy to reach sports fans across multiple platforms and connect with new audiences,” said Diego Londono, SVP & GM, Networks & Sports, The Walt Disney Company EMEA.

   RATINGS

The average audience for HBO Max’s “The Pitt” has jumped 80% since April’s season one finale, to over 18 million global viewers. The medical drama clearly got a boost from its five Emmy wins global viewing in the last week was nearly triple that of the week prior, reports Warner Bros. Discovery.

Fox News Channel’s special coverage of the memorial of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk delivered 4.8 million viewers and 687,000 in the 25-54 demo from 1:30-7:15p on Sunday, according to early Nielsen data. Throughout the duration of the special coverage, the network held 89% and 91% share of the cable news audience with viewers and the 25-54 demo, respectively.

NewsNation also drew big numbers for its coverage of the Charlie Kirk memorial service. The network averaged 615,000 in P2+ and 173,000 among 25-54 from 1-7:15p, peaking at 1,963,000 total viewers. The timeslot was up nearly 1000 percent compared to its regular monthly Sunday time period average in total viewers.
