Pre-debate data: 89% of ad sellers across publishers, platforms, and adtech that offer political ads increased their ad inventory for the category vs. the last presidential cycle, according to new stats from IAB. Additional findings include:
– 86% have experienced an increase in demand for political ads compared to last presidential cycle.
– 84% of ad sellers have raised their political ad rates vs. the last presidential cycle.
– Since Kamala Harris entered the race, 91% of ad sellers have seen an increase in political ad demand at the national level, and 75% of ad sellers have seen an increase in political ad demand at the local level.
– 96% have seen an increase in use of custom audience segments by political advertisers.
– The majority of ad sellers have policies in place to detect and prevent misinformation in ads.

DirecTV, in the midst of a carriage dispute with Disney, is raising its price next month. “We’re adjusting the price of your television package in order to remain competitive in the marketplace, while still delivering the best possible programming,” the satellite TV company informed customers on its web site. “TV networks are continuing to increase the fees they charge DirecTV for the right to distribute the content they produce, including movies, shows, and sporting events. We remain steadfast in our commitment to bring you the best programming at a fair and reasonable price.” The Basic Choice package will go up $2/month, with price hikes rising to $10 for the Max Plus tier.

The campaign for HBO’s upcoming series “The Penguin” has rolled out in Manhattan. “Gotham Goods” merch trucks can be found in six NYC locations today, and from September 12-September 22 the show will have a booth at Feast of San Gennaro on Grand Street. The series premieres Thursday, September 19 at 9p.

True crime thriller Under Too Long has been optioned by Fearless Content and Livin the Dream Entertainment. The real life story of undercover agent Billy the Liquor Guy will be adapted into a documentary true crime series, a scripted TV series, and a feature film.

AXS TV’s “Vinyl Obsession” is back for season two on Sunday, October 6 at 10:30p. Pro-wrestling’s Eric Young is the new host.

Season two of “Slag Wars,” a competition to find the next queer sex symbol, premieres Tuesday, September 17 on OUTtv.

“Revealed,” offering tours of cities across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, returns for a second season on Wednesday, September 12 on News 12. It’s not just local – the series can be streamed on Pluto TV, Tubi, Sling and more.

Season three of FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams,” the daily NFL-focused talk show featuring former “Good Morning Football” host Kay Adams, now airs weekdays at 11a on MSG Network, and at 5p on truTV.

COMING UP

ABC announced a slew of presenters for the 76th Emmy Awards. To name just a few: Ron Howard, Candice Bergen, Viola Davis, Colin Farell, Meredith Baxter, Don Johnson, Damon Wayans, and Henry Winkler. There will also be special appearances from Olympic gold medalist swimmer Caeleb Dressel and Olympic bronze medal-winning rugby player Ilona Maher. Let’s rap it up: A day after the announcement that Kendrik Lamar will headline the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show came word that Eminem will open the 2024 “VMAs” airing live on Wednesday, September 11 at 8p. Eminem has eight nominations this year.

ABC News anchor Robin Roberts hosts “The 76th Emmys®: A Night of Firsts,” on Friday, September 13 at 8p.

Among the original films coming to Pure Flix this month is “An Interview With God,” about a journalist who finds his faith challenged, on Thursday, September 12 at 8p.

“Single Lady,” a comedy special featuring Ali Wong, drops Tuesday, October 8. The show was filmed as part of Netflix Is a Joke Fest.

A holiday-themed special featuring comedian Nate Bargatze, executive produced by Lorne Michaels and his Broadway Video, is headed to CBS this December. The show is scheduled to tape at the Grand Ole Opry on November 21.

Lifetime announced six new movies for their fall “Ripped from the Headlines” slate. First up: “The Girl Who Wasn’t Dead” on Saturday, October 5.

Digital Media’s share of total Chinese ad spend outpaces any other major international market at 82%, according to stats from Guideline, a provider of advertising intelligence and media planning solutions. Key findings include:
– Social Media gains the largest share of ad spend across all media sectors, at 40.5%.
– Outdoor Media is the second largest media in China, with 13% of all ad spend year-to-date.
