Edgar Bronfman Jr., former head of Warner Music Group, has submitted a $4.3 billion bid for National Amusements and a minority stake in Paramount Global, with investors including producer Steven Paul and John Paul Dejoria, who had previously worked on an offer of their own. Bronfman got his bid in under the wire – the merger deal that Skydance Media struck with Paramount in July has a 45-day “go-shop” provision that ends at 11:59p tonight. In a letter sent to Charles Phillips, chair of Paramount’s special committee of directors, Bronfman said his group of investors believe Paramount is “far more valuable” than Skydance’s offer.
George Santos lost his lawsuit against Jimmy Kimmel over the use Cameo videos Kimmel’s show requested, then played on air during a segment called “Will Santos Say It?”. Santos cried foul, alleging Kimmel had infringed on his copyright, but a judge tossed the suit, saying that since Kimmel used the videos to make a political comment, he was protected by “fair use.”
Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he will participate in a Fox News tele-town hall on September 4, anchored by Sean Hannity. FNC had invited Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris to debate, but Harris declined. The two will face off on an ABC-hosted debate on September 10.
“The Acolyte” has been canceled by Disney+ after one season. The Star Wars series, which had a mixed reception, focused on twins Osha and Mae, played by Amandla Stenberg, who had been separated as children and led to believe the other had died.

The season two debut of E! competition series “House of Villains” will air across Bravo, E!, Syfy and USA on Wednesday, October 9 at 10p, the day before it settles into its regular Thursday-at-10p time slot on E!.
Paramount+ three-parter “Nothin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored Story of ‘80s Hair Metal” launches Tuesday, September 17. “I’m honored to be part of this docuseries, named after the hit Poison song ‘Nothin’ But A Good Time,’” said series star Bret Michaels. “I’m excited for viewers to take a fresh look at the fans and bands, highs and lows, and to celebrate the music and good times of the ’80s and beyond.”
Season 40 of ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” kicks off September 8 at 10a. Host Mike Greenberg will join returning analysts Tedy Bruschi, Rex Ryan, Randy Moss, and Alex Smith. Greenberg will be the program’s fourth host.

Documentary “Wise Guy David Chase and The Sopranos” debuts Saturday, September 7 at 8p on HBO. The two-parter delves into the work of the creator and writer of the iconic program.

Streaming accounted for a most-ever 41.4% of TV viewing last month, according to Nielsen’s The Gauge. Despite only three days of coverage included in the July Gauge report, the impact the Olympics was clear: Total TV usage was up 2.3% in July compared to the previous month, and up 3.5% compared to July 2023. Broadcast viewing increased slightly this month to 20.3% of TV, but was up 5% compared to a year ago. When TV usage is isolated by week, the start of Olympics coverage in the final week of July pushed the broadcast average up to over 22% of total TV. Peacock’s 33% monthly usage increase in July was the largest for any streaming platform in The Gauge, while YouTube became the first streaming platform to hit a 10% viewership share (actually, 10.4%).
Netflix reported it closed its 2024 Upfront negotiations with a 150% increase in ad sales commitments, in categories including consumer packaged goods, tech & entertainment, quick service restaurants, auto and retail. The streamer’s ad tier, launched in November 2022, reaches 40 million monthly active users and accounts for 45% of sign-ups in countries where it is available.
French-language network TV5MONDE announced launch of the full API integration of TV5MONDEplus on SlingTV. The integration is an extension of an existing partnership between TV5MONDE and Sling TV, allowing access to content from all inside of one platform.

Allen Media Group’s HBCU GO, a free-streaming digital platform and the media provider for the nation’s 107 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, will launch its 2024 college football season with the “2024 HBCU Go Sports Kickoff Show Presented by Procter & Gamble” on Saturday, August 24 at 12p. Back for its third year, the three-hour special offers insights about the nation’s HBCU conferences, analysis of the competition on the field, plus player profiles, game highlights, and more.
Yahoo Sports struck a multi-year partnership with MMA insider Ariel Helwani to launch Uncrowned, a new combat sports media brand. Uncrowned will produce MMA, boxing, and wrestling coverage, including flagship program “The Ariel Helwani Show.” Uncrowned content will be distributed across multiple platforms, including in a new combat hub on the Yahoo Sports website and app, YouTube, social media and all major podcast platforms.

UK’s Channel 5 and its free streaming service, My5, will relaunch in 2025 under a unified parent brand of 5 across linear, streaming and digital platforms. As part of the relaunch as 5, the streaming service will be given a new and improved user interface and feature expanded content from across the wider Paramount family spanning reality, drama, factual, films and true crime shows from MTV Entertainment Studios, CBS, and Comedy Central. There will also be offerings for kids and family from Milkshake! and Nickelodeon.
Bad Wolf is launching the Blaidd Writers Programme, a rolling six-month paid development and training initiative to find and nurture the next generation of Welsh drama writers, in association with Screen Alliance Wales. Writers will start their placements in January 2025 at the SAW classroom at Bad Wolf’s Cardiff HQ, Wolf Studios Wales, where they will begin work with Bad Wolf on the development of an idea from pitch to script.
