IN THE NEWS |
In announcing its fall slate, CBS said “Watson” will move from Sundays at 9p to Mondays at 10p for its sophomore run, and “CIA,” previously set for fall, has been shifted to midseason. Tuesdays will be an “NCIS”-orama: “NCIS” at 8p; “NCIS: Origins” at 9p, and “NCIS: Sydney” at 10p. The net’s premiere week kicks off Sunday, October 12 with sneak peeks at “Matlock” and “Elsbeth” on a special day followed by seven straight nights of original episodes. New series include comedy “DMV” (Mondays at 8:30p), and dramas “Sheriff County,” “and “Boston Blue” (Fridays at 8p and 10p), and “The Road” (Sundays at 9p).
Netflix added 32 million gross global subscribers in the second half of 2025, versus 16 million for Disney+ and 15.5 million for HBO Max, according to Parrot Analytics. Projections call for Netflix to hit 759.1 million viewers for the year, with 196.8 million of those in the US. |
Netflix’s “Tyler Perry’s She the People” has been renamed amid a lawsuit by Aimee Allison, founder of nonprofit She the People, for trademark infringement. The lawsuit was filed on May 19, three days before the political comedy’s premiere. The show returns for the second half of season one in August as “Tyler Perry’s Miss Governor.”
To the consternation of “South Park” fans, Comedy Central’s animated comedy has been pulled from Paramount+. The platform’s license to stream the show expired during a streaming rights dispute between Paramount and series creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, which apparently isn’t being helped by Paramount’s impending merger with Skydance Media. “This merger is a sh**show and it’s f****g up ‘South Park,’” posted Stone and Parker on X. “We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.”
Verizon asked a federal judge in New York to pause a record labels’ piracy lawsuit until after the Supreme Court rules in a separate case over Cox Communications’ liability for copyright infringement by subscribers. “It benefits no one – least of all the labels – to plunge ahead with burdensome litigation on a theory the Supreme Court may soon reject,” argued Verizon. Universal, Warner and Sony sued Verizon in 2024 for allegedly facilitating copyright infringement by failing to disconnect subscribers suspected of sharing music online.

IN MEMORIAM |
Presidential advisor and political analyst David Gergen died July 10 at age 83. Said CNN, “David was a beloved member of the CNN family — always happy to share his wisdom and his spotlight with others. A political scholar who served four presidents of both parties, an adoring father and dedicated husband, a senior statesman in every sense of the word, and a tireless educator. But above all else, David was a relentlessly kind and warm person. David brought the same level of excellence and care to his role at CNN that he did to all aspects of his life.” |
