Redbox owner Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment has converted from a Chapter 11 case to Chapter 7, and will shut down operations. “There is no means to continue to pay employees, pay any bills, otherwise finance this case. It is hopelessly insolvent,” said Judge Thomas Horan, who is overseeing proceedings. “Given the fact that there may also be at least the possibility of misappropriation of funds that were held in trust for employees, there is more than ample reason why this case should be converted.”

We’re All Adults Here” is the tagline for STARZ’s new marketing campaign, it was announced during the network’s Television Critics Association presentation. “We’re All Adults Here’ is more than just a tagline; it’s a promise to viewers that STARZ will always push the envelope and spark conversation,” said Jimmy Hilburn, CMO, STARZ. “The word ‘Adult’ can be a loaded term, but our intent with this campaign is to deliberately draw attention to the sophisticated tastes of our audience and showcase how our provocative programming delivers for them.”

Hallmark announced the mid-September launch of Hallmark+, a streaming service that will offer ad-free viewing with exclusive retail and product benefits. The transformation from Hallmark Movies Now to Hallmark+ brings viewers access to new content and new membership program benefits. “Hallmark+ marks a seminal moment for Hallmark,” said Mike Perry, President & CEO, Hallmark. “By intertwining new, rich content experiences with tangible rewards and premium Hallmark gifts, we are delivering a unique, new program that reflects our commitment to spreading joy through our deeply beloved brand touchpoints.”

Longtime CNN media critic Brian Lowry was among those whose positions were cut at the news network. Posted Lowry on X, “First time for everything. To quote the late great Norman Lear’s memoir title, ‘Even This I Get to Experience.’” About 100 jobs were impacted by a restructuring plan announced by CNN Worldwide CEO Mark Thompson on Wednesday.

A buzzy season six has made Peacock’s “Love Island USA” the #1 reality series in the US across all streaming platforms, according to preliminary Nielsen data. The dating show has also ranked in the Top 10 SVOD Original Series since the sixth season debuted on June 11, and is Peacock’s most-watched and most-talked about series by minutes watched and volume of social conversation, with streaming reach up 2x from previous seasons.

The “DPAA 2024 Omnichannel Decision-Makers Study,” sponsored by Kochava, found that eight in 10 respondents will recommend digital-out-of-home to be part of their media plans over the next 12 months, with 96% of marketers and agencies planning to increase or maintain spending in the next 12 months. The study, conducted by Advertiser Perceptions, also found that:
– 58% of respondents see DOOH as an important part of omnichannel video campaigns.
– 41% consider DOOH to be an extension of TV/video planning.
– 49% of integrated video teams include DOOH alongside TV, mobile and online, up from 36% in 2021.
– 76% of advertisers believe DOOH has become less siloed, and an integrated part of cross-channel strategies (up from 66% in 2021).

Starz has acquired US and Canadian rights to “Sweetpea,” about a wallflower played by Ella Purnell (“Yellowjackets”) with a killer secret. “This darkly comedic tale of revenge is sure to thrill viewers, as is Ella’s performance as a woman who finds her voice and claims her agency in ways that are devious and shocking,” said Alison Hoffman, President of Domestic Networks, Starz.

Prime Video has ordered “The Greatest,” a scripted show about the life of Muhammad Ali, to series. Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, which has an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, is producing, along with Blue Monday Productions, Authentic Studios, Roc Nation, Polygram Entertainment, a Universal Music Group partner, and Grace: A Storytelling Company, with Ali’s widow Lonnie Ali executive producing.

STARZ has greenlit “Fat Joe Talks,” an interview series hosted and executive produced by entrepreneur and philanthropist Fat Joe. In each 30-minute episode Fat Joe will lead conversations around a wide range of newsworthy topics and will travel throughout the United States to meet cultural icons in their environment.

“Young Martin,” a drama prequel to the 1992-97 Fox comedy “Martin,” is in the works from Martin Lawrence and his RunTelDat and Marvin Peart’s WonderHill Studios. The drama focuses on the character Lawrence played on “Martin.” “I respected and revered Martin Lawrence for creating Martin Payne and what he did for Africa Americans on television,” said Peart. “It’s an honor to partner with Martin and his younger self and share him with the next generation of fans.”

TVOkids has greenlit “Polly Can Do,” a preschool series featuring the adventures of a 5-year-old living with cerebral palsy who sees herself as ‘differently abled’ rather than ‘disabled.’ Co-produced by Milkcow Media and Big Jump Entertainment, the series us set to premiere in early 2025.

A TV series adaptation of Vault comic Barbaric is in development at Netflix, reports Deadline. Sam Claflin (”Daisy Jones & the Six”) is set to star and executive produce and Patrick Stewart (“Star Trek”) is attached to star in the project from A+E Studios and 100% Productions.

Diedrich Bader (“American Housewife”), Christine Ebersole (“Bob Hearts Abishola”), Megyn Price (“Rules of Engagement”) and Richard Riehle (“Barry) are onboard Hallmark movie “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.” Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid and some Chiefs player are also expected to appear in the film (but probably not Travis Kelce).

“Hollywood Black,” chronicling the history of cinema from a radically Black perspective, debuts Sunday, August 11 on MGM+. The series features personal stories from actors, writers, directors, and producers.

“Rick and Morty: The Anime,” following Rick and Morty in an intergalactic adventure, premieres Thursday, August 15 at midnight on Adult Swim.

Season four of Tyler Perry’s “Bruh” kicks off Thursday, July 18 on BET+ with two episodes, with a new episode debuting weekly.

ABC Owned Television Stations in association with ARRAY Filmworks present “Our America: Hidden Stories with Ava DuVernay,” beginning, Sunday, July 14 across ABC Owned Television Stations, and streaming on Hulu July 19. The one-hour special sheds light on the interconnected issues of caste through the lenses of racism, sexism and other hierarchies in America.

DirecTV has launched six channels for DirecTV and DirecTV STREAM customers who receive their content via streaming, and satellite customers who want to access them using the DIRECTV App. Channels include FailArmy, At Home with Family Handyman, Horror by Alter, Love Nature, Players TV and The Pet Collective.

Kartoon Channel! reports its paid subscriber growth on Amazon Prime Video rose by 120% from June 2023-June 2024, and achieved a 28% year-over-year growth in paid direct-to-consumer streaming subscribers across all its streaming services. “In the children’s media landscape, we are witnessing the third wave of television distribution, as children migrated from Saturday morning network television to children’s cable TV, à la Nickelodeon, and now to streaming,” said Andy Heyward, Chairman and CEO of Kartoon Studios.

Future Today has licensed new titles that expand the content offerings on streaming service Fawesome, including agreements with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Samuel Goldwyn Films and Gravitas Ventures. “Fawesome’s growing audience has come to expect engaging and entertaining content,” said David Di Lorenzo, SVP of Content Acquisitions & Partnerships at Future Today. “Our new deals with these major studios allow us to continue to expand our premium content offering while satisfying the wants of our audience.”

Bill Belichick has joined The CW’s “Inside the NFL” as an analyst. It’s not Belichick’s first assignment post-Patriots – the winning coach had already signed on for ESPNs “The Pat McAfee Show” and Peyton and Eli Manning’s “Manningcast.”

The Allen Media Group’s streamer HBCU GO will air 26 football matchups in the 2024 season, including eight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, nine Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 14 Southwestern Athletic Conference match-ups, including the Southern Heritage Classic, six homecoming games, and the CIAA Football Championship.

Little Dot Studios has entered into an output deal with YouTube channel The People Profiles, starting with an initial order of 60 feature documentaries.
