The House Energy and Commerce Committee cancelled a scheduled markup of the American Privacy Rights Act, which had drawn heated criticism from dozens of groups. On Wednesday, the Interactive Advertising Bureau had voiced its concerns, saying the APRA’s classification of ordinary browsing history as sensitive data demanding opt-in consent could “severely impact the availability of free online content and services.” A letter to committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Ranking Member Frank Pallone also pointed out the impracticality of the exemption criteria for small businesses, which could hinder their growth and sustainability.
Social media ranked as the most “meaningful” channel in people’s lives in “2024 Society Say,” a Havas Media survey about consumer perspectives on culture and media. Social media was followed by TV, search, websites and newspapers. On perceived benefits derived from media, respondents cited search as number one in simplifying lives, followed by social media and websites. TV ranked first in entertaining, followed by social media and video on demand. For engagement, social media was number one, followed by TV. When it comes to marketing, 85% of consumers agreed advertisers have a role in maintaining ethical and transparent us of consumer data, and 84% believe advertisers should prioritize media publishers that provide accurate and fact-checked content.
WPP was in talks with KKR about selling a majority stake in its strategic advisory and communications consultancy, FGS Global, but talks broke off after KKR’s offer was too low, according to The Financial Times. KKR bought about a 30% stake in FGS Global last year. FT said talk of a sale is likely not over.
Netflix renewed dating series “Perfect Match” for a third season. The show pairs singles from other Netflix unscripted series.
Hulu reality series “The D’Amelio Show” will not make it to season four. Season three of the show aired last fall.

Spanning almost forty years, the show follows the highs and lows of the relationship of two brothers, from them meeting as teenagers to their falling out as adults.

An untitled drama set in the world of Silicon Valley from Jonathan Glazter (“Succession”) got the green light from AMC. “Get ready for a captivating, enthralling, authentic look behind the curtain of Silicon Valley,” said Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “Jonathan is a massive talent and AMC is lucky to be the home of this, his first series creation brought to life. Fremantle North America closed a deal with the estate of author James Baldwin (The Fire Next Time, Go Tell it on the Mountain) to develop adaptations of his work for TV and film. “American Godfathers: The Five Families,” executive produced and narrated by actor Michael Imperioli (“The Sopranos”), airs across three consecutive nights beginning Sunday, August 11 at 8p on The History Channel. The six-hour docuseries explores the inception, rise, and fall of New York City’s five Mafia families.
“Crime Exposé with Nancy O’Dell,” a daily half-hour true crime series, will premiere in syndication on Monday, September 23. Trifecta Entertainment, Scott Sternberg Productions and Tornante Television are partnering on production of the show, which will air on Fox stations in New York, LA, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, Washington DC, Orlando, Minneapolis and Houston along with Sinclair Broadcast Group stations in 52markets. The series is currently cleared in 95% of the US. Other station groups involved in the launch are Nexstar, CBS, Gray, Tegna, Scripps, Mission, Imagicomm and Cox.
New docuseries “The West Coast Hustle” debuts on MTV on Thursday, July 18 at 9p. Recording artist Chanel West Coast is starring and executive producing.
Apple TV+ espionage series “Slow Horses” returns for season four on Wednesday, September 4. Joanna Scanlan (“Getting On”), Ruth Bradley (“Primeval”), Tom Brooke (“The Boat That Rocked”) and James Callis (“Battlestar Galactica”) join the ensemble cast for the new season.
A&E has set the premiere for the two-night documentary event “The Chicano Squad,” chronicling a team of bilingual patrol officers promoted to detectives to form the first all-Latin homicide unit dedicated to tackling Houston’s soaring rate of Latin homicide cases in 1979. The show debuts Monday, September 2 and Tuesday, September 3 at 9p.
Season three of “Y’Africa: Sports Champions in Africa” launches on TAC Monday, July 1 at 7p, with two episodes weekly repeating Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 4:30p and Sundays at 6:30p. The series will be available on Demand Africa beginning October 1.
“Love After Lockup” returns to WE tv on Friday, July 26 at 8p. The new season features seven couples, including two fan favorites from “Love During Lockup.”

Ricky Gervais has planned a tour, “Ricky Gervais: Mortality,” that will run through the end of 2025 and wrap with a Netflix special, his fourth for the streamer. “We’re all gonna die,” said Gervais. “May as well have a laugh about it. Mortality looks at the absurdities of life. And death. Bring it on.”
There will be “Double Trouble” Friday nights on INSP. For the month of August, the network will air movies featuring dynamic duos. The Center for Investigative Reporting (Mother Jones) is suing ChatGPT maker OpenAI and its business partner, Microsoft, for using its content without permission or compensation. The lawsuit claims AI-generated summaries is exploitative. “It’s immensely dangerous,” Monika Bauerlein, the nonprofit’s CEO, told The Associated Press. “Our existence relies on users finding our work valuable and deciding to support it.”

“Godzilla X King Kong: The New Empire” starts streaming Thursday, July 4 on Max. A version of the film with American Sign Language (ASL) will also stream on Max the same day. This ASL version of the film was produced exclusively for Max.
Paramount Global has taken down the online archives for ComedyCentral.com, TVLand.com, CMT.com and MTVNews.com. Visitors to the sites are now directed to watch episodes through their TV provider, or sign up to Paramount+. “We have introduced more streamlined versions of our sites, driving fans to Paramount+ to watch their favorite shows,” stated a company spokesperson.
FilmRise is working with Future Today Inc. to develop an Unspeakable-branded streaming app. The app will house the creator’s portfolio of videos, spanning over 200 hours of videos from across his YouTube channels. Since 2021, FilmRise has adapted over 500 videos into broadcast-ready episodes including the repackaged episodes that make up the “Unspeakable” and “UnspeakablePlays” series already in distribution. Future Today Inc., FilmRise’s longtime OTT app technology partner, will design and host the app for FilmRise.
FuboTV has launched its app on Comcast’s entertainment platforms Xfinity Flex, Xumo Stream Box and Xumo TV. The app is also available on Xumo TVs.

The Big East Conference inked a new six-year media rights agreement with FOX Sports, the Big East’s television partner for the last 11 years, with NBC Sports and TNT Sports also providing comprehensive basketball coverage for the first time. The new agreement, which will span from 2025-26 through 2030-31, encompasses coverage on FOX Sports (FOX, FS1, FS2), NBC Sports (NBC, Peacock) and TNT Sports (TNT, TBS, truTV and Max).
Sports ad delivery is growing, according to iSpot report “Every Second Counts,” which notes a 12% increase in sports TV ad impressions since 2023, with over 900B ad impressions generated by sports content in the past year (and was 14% of all national linear TV ad impressions). The report also found that among the NFL’s top advertisers, there’s a significant divide between spot-level impressions and average audiences – especially when games are lopsided. iSpot found that 6 of the NFL’s top 15 advertisers saw meaningful impressions under-delivery compared to the ACM metric they likely bought on.
Atlantic Hockey America announced an exclusive three-year media extension with FloSports for AHA men’s and women’s regular season and postseason contests. The agreement will provide FloHockey live and on-demand coverage of events during the 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27 seasons.
