Streaming viewership reached a record high share of TV usage in May, with 38.8%. YouTube was the most-watched platform for the 16th consecutive month with a 9.7% share, followed by Netflix (7.6%), Hulu (3.1%) and Prime Video (3.0%). Broadcast accounted for 22.3% of total TV time, while cable accounted for 28.2%.

“Resident Alien” is moving from Syfy to NBCU sib USA Network for season four. The sci-fi comedy stars Alan Tudyk as an alien trying to blend with humans in a small town while hiding his mission to destroy humanity.

PBS has joined ABC News in deciding to simulcast CNN’s June 27 presidential debate, with “NewsHour” anchors Geoff Bennett and Amna Nawaz offering post-debate analysis. David Muir will lead coverage for ABC News. CNN is making the feed available to other networks.

TIME has boarded Fox Corporation’s open-source protocol for content verification and licensing, Verify. The media company is Verfiy’s first external publishing partner. FOX released Verify on the public Polygon Proof-of-Stake network in January 2024 to establish the origin and history of original journalism by cryptographically signing individual pieces of content on the blockchain, which in turn allows the content to be independently verified by consumers as originating from the trusted publisher they expect.

Netflix wants to make it permanent. The company, which has hosted immersive experiences tied to its shows, plans to open two experiential venues in former department stores next year, in Dallas and King of Prussia, PA. “At Netflix House, you can enjoy regularly updated immersive experiences, indulge in retail therapy, and get a taste — literally — of your favorite Netflix series and films through unique food and drink offerings,” said Marian Lee, Netflix’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We’ve launched more than 50 experiences in 25 cities, and Netflix House represents the next generation of our distinctive offerings.”

Charter Communications is awarding15 college students $20,000 each in scholarships and the opportunity to participate in a two-year educational and professional development program through its Spectrum Scholars initiative. Spectrum has provided $1 million in scholarships to students with financial need since 2020.

FaZe Banks has re-acquired a 25.5% stake in FaZe Media, a transaction that puts the creator-led gaming and esports company back into the hands of its founders. Banks now owns approximately 31% of FaZe Media. “We’ve always believed in the immense potential of FaZe Clan, and now, with the reins back in our hands, we’re more committed than ever to taking it to new heights,” said Richard “FaZe Banks” Bengtson. “This isn’t just a business move—it’s about reigniting the original spark and driving forward with the same passion and creativity that built FaZe into a global phenomenon.” GameSquare will maintain a controlling interest in FaZe Media, in a partnership that will allow FaZe Media to benefit from GameSquare’s resources while retaining creative freedom.

Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer will star in and executive produce a Hulu-ordered pilot for “Mid-Century Modern,” from Max Mutchnick and David Kohan (“Will & Grace”) and Ryan Murphy. Linda Lavin also stars, and James Burrows is directing. The series follows three best friends who decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs, where the wealthiest friend lives with his mother and a naked Gen Z housekeeper.

Production has commenced on HBO drama “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” in Belfast, Ireland. The series is an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight.

V10 Entertainment inked an exclusive partnership with unscripted industry veteran Bert Klasey and his company FlapJack Films. Under the terms of the partnership, Klasey will focusing on transactional, social experiment, mystery, and crime programming, as well as branded entertainment offerings with V10’s Brand Engine division. Klasey formed FlapJack a year ago and has set up projects with multiple networks, including a series commitment from Discovery Channel due to air later this year.

The voice cast for Comedy Central’s reimagined adult animated series, “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” includes Chris Rock, Terry Crews (“America’s Got Talent”) and Tichina Arnold (“The Neighborhood”). Also joining the new series are Tim Johnson Jr. (“Saturdays”), Ozioma Akagha (“Delilah”), Terrence Little Gardenhigh (“Danger Force”), and Gunnar Sizemore (“King Fu Panda”). Produced by CBS Studios; Chris Rock Enterprises; and 3 Arts Entertainment, the new half-hour animated series will premiere on Comedy Central later this year.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

Crime docuseries “Under the Radar – Secrets of a Swedish Serial Killer” makes its North American debut Tuesday, July 30 on Viaplay. In the three-parter, investigative journalist John Mork enlists musicians, investigators, graphologists, and more, to help him solve a cryptic song and thoroughly investigate unsolved murders during an infamous serial killer’s time in Florida.

MTV’s “Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets” premieres Tuesday, June 23 at 9p. Celebrity guests this go-round include Macy Gray, Chet Hanks, Kim Zolciak, O.T. Genasis, Ally Brooke, Johnny Weir, Josie Canseco and Tyler Posey.

Breaking New Ground,” following Broadway performer, entrepreneur, and educator Robert Hartwell as he transforms a 200-year-old house with a complicated history, premieres Thursday, June 27 on Max.

Acorn TV detective drama series “Signora Volpe” is back for season two on Monday, July 29 with a co-premiere on BBC America. The three-part Acorn TV Original series follows disillusioned British spy Sylvia Fox as she finds herself starting a new, quiet life in the Italian countryside, only to have a local case of murder and blackmail lure her back into investigative work.

Thema América is bringing three Korean series to Latin America and the US: “No Others” (¡Por favor mamá!), “Unlock My Boss” (El misterio de mi jefe), and “The Battle for Happiness” (Madres felices y fatales). The K-dramas are available in English and Spanish.

COMING UP

Comedian Matt Friend will host the 2024 NHL Awards, broadcast live from Las Vegas on Thursday, June 27 on ESPN and Sportsnet in the US and Canada, respectively, beginning at 4p.

REELZ series “On Patrol: Live” will wrap the season with a new episode on Saturday, June 29 at 9p that runs for its regularly scheduled three hours, and continue with a bonus hour from 12-1a. New live episodes return with a new season starting Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13 at 9p.

STREAMING

Love Nature is now available to stream on Peacock. Love Nature is the streamer’s first dedicated natural history channel.

Viamedia is partnering with Willow by Cricbuzz to offer live, streaming and on-demand cricket. The deal marks an expansion for Viamedia into the programmatic streaming space, with Viamedia providing advanced programmatic ad sales representation for Willow by Cricbuzz.

TECH TALK

Fox Corporation and The Trade Desk have expanded their partnership with advertising integrations across the Fox portfolio through AdRise. “Through our market leading brands and our AdRise technology platform, FOX and Tubi are at the forefront of enabling new and impactful ways for advertisers to reach and engage with authenticated audiences, at scale,” said Paul Cheesbrough, CEO, Tubi Media Group. “Our extended partnership with The Trade Desk builds upon many successful years of working with each other and signals the next chapter – one where we move towards a more deeply integrated marketplace and collaborate around key industry issues like transparency and identity.”

Sell-side advertising company Magnite and Spectrum Reach, the advertising sales business of Charter Communications, announced an agreement that will have Spectrum Reach expand on the current use of Magnite’s technology, which is focused on delivering targeted ads in a programmatic, or automated, fashion in a privacy-focused way to consumers watching TV via the Spectrum TV App. The agreement extends Magnite’s full programmatic capabilities to Spectrum’s video delivery technology, allowing ad buyers to bid on individual impression opportunities available on the app in real-time.

Yahoo Advertising introduced Yahoo Creative, its first full-stack data-powered ad creative solution, developed in partnership with Innervate. Yahoo Creative brings the pace of programmatic technology’s evolution to the creative side, applying AI and data principles to real-time creative development. At launch, brands including Princess Cruises are actively using Yahoo Creative, which works across the Yahoo DSP and will be interoperable with other advertising technology platforms. “In today’s cookie-less landscape, dynamic, relevant, and engaging creative is critical for campaign success,” said Elizabeth Herbst-Brady, Chief Revenue Officer, Yahoo. “Yahoo Creative represents a major technological advancement, combining AI, data, and human expertise to usher in a new era of creative for advertisers. GOING GLOBAL

Yes Studios struck its first-ever deal with DIRECTV Latin America. The partnership will bring “#NOVA,” a documentary that provides a real-time portrayal of the Hamas terrorist attacks at the Nova Festival in southern Israel on October 7, to audiences in Latin America starting in October.

New ID has launched Binge Korea on Roku, expanding its FAST services to include both live broadcast and AVOD services. In addition to Roku, new versions have been updated on globally launched TV OS platforms.

Hat Trick International struck new deals with for “Ibiza: Secrets of the Party Island” with DPG Belgium, TV2 Denmark, MTV Finland and Channel 9 Australia. On the scripted front, “Spinal Destination” is headed to SBS Australia.

Toonz Media Group has joined with Angel Studios to distribute a new anime-style fantasy adventure series, “Gabriel and the Guardians.” Based on the Dead Sea Scrolls, the fantasy series follows Gabriel, a Celestial Guardian.

Big Media has inked a content deal with France’s Histoire TV (Group TF1), giving it exclusive TV rights in France and French-speaking Africa for Big Media’s upcoming science/history series “Scanning History.”

The season two premiere of HBO’s “House of the Dragon” delivered 7.8 million viewers across platforms, a hefty number but down from the 10 million viewers who watched season one’s premiere night.

Pat Sajak’s final episode as host of “Wheel of Fortune” delivered the syndicated series’ best ratings in over four years, drawing 11.03 million viewers and a 6.22 rating. It was the most watched telecast for the week among homes and total viewers (excluding sports).

Starz drama “Power Book II: Ghost” season four part one delivered over 6.5 million multiplatform viewers in its premiere week, with several more platforms to report.

The season seven debut of BIG3, the professional 3-on-3 basketball league, reached more than 7.1 million viewers across CBS, X, and a series of custom streamer/influencer combo-casts. The first two games averaged 524,000 viewers on CBS, up 8.5% from last season. So far, games on X have reached 5.8 million viewers, 4.5 of which tuned in live, and garnered more than 60 million impressions. The streamers reached a collective 850,000 viewers and garnered 20.5 million impressions.

The Stanley Cup Final Game 5 averaged 4.1 million total viewers, up 51% versus last year’s game.

1.596 million viewers tuned in to the inaugural UFL Championship on Fox, up 38% from last year’s USFL contest and up 11% versus 2023’s XFL Championship.

The UEFA European Championship Group Stage Match between England and Serbia drew 1.828 million viewers on Fox, making it the most-watched UEFA Euro Group Stage telecast in the US in English language television since 2012.
