   IN THE NEWS

Donald Trump lashed out at Netflix board member and former national security advisor Susan Rice over the weekend, urging the streaming giant to remove her from its board. In a Saturday post on Truth Social, Trump called Rice “racist” and “Trump Deranged,” demanded that Netflix fire her “IMMEDIATELY,” and threatened “consequences” if it did not. Trump’s criticism followed Rice’s recent appearance on the podcast “Stay Tuned for Preet,” hosted by former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara. During the interview, Rice cautioned that companies aligning themselves with Trump for short-term gain could eventually face repercussions when political power shifts. According to Rice, businesses expecting a return to “the old rules” if Democrats regain power “have got another thing coming.”

Before Trump’s post, Netflix had to deal with the letter director James Cameron wrote to Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), chair of the Senate subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy, and Consumer Rights, condemning Netflix’s agreement to buy Warner Bros. Discovery as “disastrous for the theatrical motion picture business.” In his own letter to Lee, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos said Cameron misrepresented Netflix’s plans for the theatrical release of Warner. Bros. films. In a meeting with Cameron in December, said Sarandos, he told the “Avatar” director that Netflix was committed to a 45-day window for the films. “Mr. Cameron was very supportive,” wrote Sarandos. “If anything, he was more excited to talk about the at-home movie viewing glasses he is developing with Meta than exclusive windows for theatrical movies.” Concluded Sarandos, “The strongest path forward for theaters is more investment, more great films, and more reasons for audiences to show up. We intend to provide exactly that.”

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr is urging broadcasters to take part in a “Pledge America Campaign,” a White House initiative marking the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. In a statement Friday, Carr called on stations to air content that fosters civic education, national pride, and an appreciation of shared history, with suggestions including daily broadcasts of the Pledge of Allegiance or the national anthem and music by American composers such as John Philip Sousa.

Anna Gomez, the sole Democrat at the FCC, offered a different perspective. “Nothing is more American than defending our constitutional rights against those who would erode our civil liberties,” Gomez posted on X. “If broadcasters choose to participate in this FCC campaign, they can do so by defending their First Amendment rights and refusing government interference.”

Newsmax has renewed the agreements of two of its prime-time hosts: former Navy SEAL Carl Higbie (“Frontline”) and former Marine Corps. fighter pilot Greg Kelly (“Greg Kelly Reports”). “Carl Higbie and Greg Kelly represent the very best of what Newsmax brings to the American public,” said Newsmax CEO Ruddy.

Actor Eric Dane (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Euphoria”) died February 19 at age 53. Dane went public with his diagnosis of ALS last April and became an advocate for awareness and research. The actor is included in Netflix’s “Famous Last Words” series, which features interviews recorded with the understanding they will air posthumously. Dane directed his thoughts to his two daughters. “The future remains unknown. So you have to live now,” he tells Billie and Georgia. “The present is all you have. Treasure it. Cherish every moment.”
