IN THE NEWS |
| Fox Corp. reported total quarterly revenues of $5.18 billion for its second fiscal quarter, a +2% increase over the same period last year. The drop in political advertising revenue was offset by gains in sports and news pricing, and the growth of streamer Tubi.
Not that entertainment programming doesn’t remain a key part of Fox Corp.’s strategy. During an earnings call, CEO Lachlan Murdoch noted the performance across platforms of three breakout debuts, “Best Medicine,” “Fear Factor: House of Fear” and “Memory of a Killer” – each delivered more than 11 million multiplatform viewers, driving a +21% year-over-year increase in total minutes watched. The newcomers are powering Fox’s strongest midseason debut performance in more than 14 years. “We will always sign first-look deals and creative deals with the best content creators and producers and writers in the industry,” said Murdoch. “That’s something that we’ve always done, and will continue to do.”
Ad supported television represented 74.2% of overall TV viewing in 4Q25, according to Nielsen’s Q4 Ad Supported Gauge. Audiences spent 45.6% of their ad supported viewing time with streaming, 29.6% with broadcast, and 24.8% with cable, with broadcast experiencing the largest quarterly jump (22%) of any ad supported viewing category throughout all of 2025 in Q4. Football was a major driver for broadcast, as sports viewing surged by 135%. Overall, the ad supported broadcast category saw its biggest increase among 25-34 year olds (up 41%), but the 18-49 and 25-54 demos also saw increases of 31% and 29%, respectively. |

| The NFL is taking note of football being a major viewing driver. While the league is in the early years of a $120 billion deal that extends until the early 2030s, the league is expected to open negotiations to revise its broadcast and streaming contracts as early as this year, reports the New York Times. “As we look around at the incredible viewership we had this year, and we look at this sports rights marketplace, we think the value of NFL rights have only increased,” said Hans Schroeder, the league’s EVP of Media Distribution, in an interview. The NFL tied down its last package of media rights deals in way back in 2021, when streamers weren’t yet a force in the live sports business.
NBC’s “The Voice” is getting longer, if not louder. Every episode of season 29’s “The Voice: Battle of Champions” will air in a two-hour timeslot, from 9-11p, starting with the premiere on Monday, February 23. That bumps the remaining six episodes of “Brilliant Minds” out of the Monday-at-10p slot; the medical drama will air later in the season or in the summer. |
