Upfront 2013:  USA Network

USA unveiled its development slate for the 2013-2014 season, a mix of dramas and the network’s first-ever original half hour comedies, at its Upfront presentation at Pier 36 in New York. “With Modern Familyjoining our line-up in the fall, we can leverage television’s most popular comedy to serve as a powerful launch pad for new originals in this genre,” said Chris McCumber, Co-President of USA Network. “Our new series come from some of the best comedic talent in the business, and reflect USA’s style  great characters, strong execution and compelling storytelling,” added Jeff Wachtel, Co-President of USA Network. Here’s a look:

  • Sirens (from Apostle and Fox Television Studios in conjunction with Daybreak Pictures) follows three Chicago EMTs whose sometimes silly, self-righteous personalities make them unqualified for sustaining relationships. However, they’re uniquely qualified for saving anyone who winds up in their ambulance.
  • Playing House (from Universal Cable Productions and American Work) centers on two best friends, a mom-to-be and a single career woman, who come back together when they need each other most.
  • The pilot Love Is Dead (from Universal Cable Productions and Gaumont International Television) focuses on a unique company that specializes in breaking-up romantic relationships on behalf of those who are willing to pay to not be around when it happens.
  • Horizon (from Universal Cable Productions) is a period genre drama set at the height of World War II. The pilot will go into production this summer.
  • The Edge (from Universal Cable Productions and Executive Producer John Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co.) is a thriller that explores one idealistic man’s journey after he leaves an NGO to join the world’s top venture capital firm.
  • The story of an ER doctor whose life changes after he is involved in a gang shooting is explored in Complications (from Fox TV Studios).
  • After an unconventional act of heroism gives a young FBI agent the opportunity to choose her next assignment, she chooses the bank crimes division in Los Angeles in Bank (from Universal Cable Productions).
  • Blanco County (from Tom Welling Productions and Rob Thomas Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television) follows the story of a worldly pro baseball player who would rather spend his down time traveling the world than return to his small Texas hometown.
  • Don’t Turn Around (from Grady Girl Productions) is a limited series about a young group of staffers who work on an island and get trapped at the end of the season.
  • Hungry (from Universal Cable Productions) takes an inside look at the opening of a New York City hot spot, inspired by restaurateur Joe Bastianich’s life and his New York Times bestseller Restaurant Man.
  • Legal thriller Shadow Counsel (from Universal Cable Productions) centers on Ethan, a former Army JAG attorney now working as a criminal lawyer in NY who is recruited by the FBI to crack an ongoing investigation.
