The NBA reaffirmed its relationship with one of the sports world’s biggest spenders by announcing a four-year extension of its marketing partnership with Anheuser-Busch Tuesday. For the first time, the NBA and A-B will produce an original, digital content series that will appear on NBA and A-B-owned properties over the current 2015/2016 season.
Under terms of the agreement, A-B will continue to serve as the Official Beer Partner of the NBA, WNBA and NBA D-League. The brewer will also expand the partnership to include USA Basketball and the NBA’s Hispanic marketing initiative, Noches éne•bé•a.
A-B’s Budweiser and Bud Light brands will activate around all of the league’s big events, including the NBA Finals, NBA Playoffs, NBA All-Star and WNBA All-Star. The NBA and A-B have been marketing partners since 1998.
Emilio Collins, the NBA’s EVP/Global Marketing Partnerships, said Budweiser and Bud Light will "engage fans in a multitude of new ways through live events, retail programs, digital activation and great storytelling.”
With Brock Osweiler making his first home career start for a banged-up Peyton Manning, NBC Sports’ broadcast of the Denver Broncos’ 30-24 overtime win over Tom Brady and the previously undefeated New England Patriots averaged 25.2 million viewers on “Sunday Night Football.” That’s up 13% from last season’s Week 12 game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants (22.4 million). Sunday’s telecast from snowy Denver ranked as the most-watched Thanksgiving Sunday prime time game since SNF kicked off in 2006. And the fifth time SNF has topped 25 million viewers this season vs. only one game last season between the Seattle Seahawks and Green Bay Packers.
ESPN’s exclusive broadcasts of the weekly College Football Playoff rankings continued Tuesday night with the reveal of the Top 25. Tuesday show was the last before the final rankings are revealed on Saturday, Dec. 6 (12 noon ET).
Speaking of ESPN, the Worldwide Leader relaunched its Spanish-Language ESPN Websites in the U.S. and Latin America on Tuesday. The goal: to bring "a uniformly great experience to sports fans all over the world," said John Kosner, EVP/Digital and Print Media.
Time Warner Cable SportsNet will debut “Sports Shrines of LA: STAPLES Center” tonight (8 p.m. PT). The final episode in the six-part series will recount how Staples Center helped revitalize Downtown Los Angeles.
Lisa Leslie, a 2015 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee and four-time Olympic Gold Medal winner, will join “Inside the NBA’s" Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson during TNT’s NBA double-header coverage Thursday night. The Oklahoma City Thunder tip off vs. the Miami Heat (7.m. ET). Play-by-play announcer Marv Albert, analyst Chris Webber and reporter Rachel Nichols (who’s returning to ESPN in January) will be on the call. The late game features the San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies (9:30 p.m. ET). Play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan, analyst Reggie Miller and reporter Craig Sager will have the call.
HBO Sports’ “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Houston” Texans averaged 4.4 million viewers per episode this year. That made it the most-watched Hard Knocks edition since head coach Rex Ryan’s (“Let’s go get a snack!”) 2010 New York Jets averaged 4.6 million viewers. Viewership was up 20% for the Texans vs. last year’s Atlanta Falcons edition.

The NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars have partnered with virtual reality company VOKE for the official Jags Gameday app. Before kickoff, Jags fans will be able to access parking, seating maps and concession info.
HBO is promoting Peter Nelson to head its sports department as EVP/HBO Sports. Nelson will oversee HBO’s boxing and PPV franchises as well as: “Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel," "The Fight Game With Jim Lampley," "Hard Knocks"and "24/7." Nelson will report to Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming.
Nelson will "collaborate" with HBO’s star hire Bill Simmons on HBO Sports projects such as documentaries, according to spokesman Ray Stallone. But Nelson will not be involved in Simmons’ new HBO sports/pop culture show.
"Bill’s HBO show falls in the entertainment division and is not a project that Peter or HBO Sports will collaborate on," said Stallone.
IRG Sports + Entertainment has hired Chris Lencheski as Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. Lencheski will oversee IRGSE’s family of companies, including the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and International Drag Bike League (IDBL) sanctioning bodies as well as Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR), Memphis International Raceway (MIR), Maryland International Raceway (MDIR) and Cordova International Raceway (CIR).
What a difference 15 years makes. When UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, his brother Frank Fertitta III and pal Dana White bought the floundering UFC brand in 2001, they were forced to work out of a spare closet in the Fertitta family’s office building. On Tuesday, the UFC broke ground on a new 184,000 square foot campus for 360 employees scheduled to open in January, 2016. The campus will feature a state-of-the-art UFC Athlete Health and Performance Center that promotion says will revolutionize how Octagon fighters train and rehabilitate injuries.
