The nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced Monday, and ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” earned five nods, the most for a TV show. Scoring four each were HBO’s “The White Lotus,” Netflix’s “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and “The Crown,” and Hulu’s “Pam & Tommy” and “Only Murders in the Building.” The awards will be telecast Tuesday, January 10 at 8p on NBC and Peacock.
Consumer advocacy groups are pushing for the House of Representatives to vote on a bipartisan privacy bill, The American Data Privacy and Protection Act, that would restrict data use and ban behavioral targeting. Companies would also be prohibited from serving targeted ads to anyone under 17. “The time is now to pass a comprehensive federal privacy law,” organizations including the Center for Democracy & Technology, Electronic Privacy Information Center and Public Knowledge wrote in a letter sent to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
More than 60% of its subscribers have watched Korean content in 2022, revealed Netflix, and Korean content was included in the streamer’s Weekly Top 10 chart in more than 90 countries. Korea’s “Squid Game,” “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” and “All of Us Are Dead” all made Netflix’s Top 10 most popular non-English shows ever, with “Squid Game” topping the list of all shows regardless of language.
Approximately $213.6 million in national TV advertising was placed on the Fox TV networks and NBCUniversal’s Telemundo channels through the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, according to iSpot.tv. Fox, which holds English-language rights to the tournament, has taken $113.5 million in national TV advertising sales, while Telemundo/Universo has collected $100.1 million in ad revenue.
Period comedy “Minx,” picked up for a second season by HBO Max in May, will not be returning to the streamer after all. “We have enjoyed a good partnership with HBO Max and are working closely to find a new opportunity for ‘Minx,’ so current, and new viewers, can continue this journey with us,” said Lionsgate TV in a statement. Season one will be removed from HBO Max and both seasons will be shopped elsewhere.

Disney+ handed a pilot greenlight for “Witch Mountain,” a reimagining of the film franchise that follows two teens with strange abilities who discover their sleepy suburb may not be as idyllic as it seems. Bryce Dallas Howard (“Jurassic World: Dominion”) stars.
Remember how we told you Korean content is hot at Netflix? The streamer is keeping a good thing going with an order for an adaptation of Korean webtoon “Doona!”, a coming-of-age story about the romance between a K-pop star and an ordinary college student. Producers are Studio Dragon and Studio N.
“Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock” has been renewed for a second season at Apple TV+ and has begun production in Calgary, Canada. Daveed Diggs (“Hamilton”) returns for season two alongside Ariana DeBose (“Schmigadoon”), Brett Goldstein (“Ted Lasso”) and Catherine O’Hara (“Schitt’s Creek”) in guest star roles.
Production company Haymaker Content (“Southern Charm”) has relaunched as Haymaker East. Founder Aaron Rothman is now the sole owner and CEO; Josh Halpert will continue his as Head of Production, and Jessica Chesler (“Southern Charm”) has been named Head of Current. Jesse Light (“Forever Summer: Hamptons”) takes the title of Head of Development.
Genius Brands, Blue Origin, and SMAC Productions are teaming to develop and produce “Blue Origin Space Rangers,” an animated space adventure series for kids and families that will include appearances by Michael Strahan and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos. Mainframe Studios, an affiliate of Genius Brands, will produce the animation.
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
“Street Outlaws: OKC” is back on Discovery Channel on Monday, January 2 at 8p. In the new season of the car competition, the 405 reclaims their roots with new small tire race cars reflective of street racing in the early days.
Soft rock doc “Sometimes When We Touch” premieres Tuesday, January 3 on Paramount+. The three-parter explores and celebrates the stories of artists like Air Supply and Toni Tennille, that maybe aged better than we thought they would.
FOX Business Network has two new programs premiering January 23. Bloomberg Television’s Taylor Riggs has signed with the network to co-host “The Big Money Show,” alongside FBN’s Brian Brenberg and Jackie DeAngelis weekdays from 1-2p, while Dagen McDowell and Sean Duffy will co-host “The Bottom Line,” weeknights at 6p. “The Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald” shifts to 5p.
“Teen Mom 2” meets HGTV in “Down Home Fab,” starring MTV series alums Chelsea and Cole DeBoer. “We have a design business showing clients how to take risks and go bold with their design,” said Chelsea. “Life with Cole, our four kids and our business is all I’ve ever wanted. This is what I want to do forever.” The series premieres Monday, January 16.
The second season of INSP docudrama “Into the Wild Frontier” launches Wednesday, February 15 at 10p. Explorers featured include Kit Carson, William Sublette, Jim Clyman, Joe Meek, Joe Walker, Andrew Henry, Marie Dorion and Tom Fitzpatrick.
Outdoor Sportsman Group has acquired “American Made,” offering a look into the lives and businesses of Americans rekindling the “American Dream,” one product at a time. The series will air in September 2023 during Outdoor Channel’s “Into the Wild” programming block on Friday nights.

ABC News Studios has three true-crime docuseries launching on Hulu next month. “Death in the Dorms” premieres January 5; “Web of Death,” following amateur sleuths using digital technology to solve murders, premieres January 19; and “Killing County,” exploring Bakersfield, CA and exec produced by Colin Kaepernick, debuts January 26.
FOX News Channel will offer special New Year’s Eve programming on December 31 from 10p-1:30a, sponsored by Tunnel to Towers. “FOX & Friends Weekend” hosts Will Cain, Rachel Campos-Duffy, and Pete Hegseth will co-host the program live from Nashville, Tennessee. At 9p, “Outnumbered” co-host Emily Compagno, FOX News Radio host Jimmy Failla and correspondent Griff Jenkins will co-host an hour-long pre-show special, “Countdown to All-American New Year.”
It’s a double dose of late night when the star of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” guests on the season finale of Peacock’s “The Amber Ruffin Show” on Friday, December 16.

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Strange World” drops on Disney+ on December 23. The film, which opened in theaters over Thanksgiving weekend, introduces a family of explorers as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob called Splat.
HDNET MOVIES celebrates the season with “A Merry Movie Marathon” airing Christmas Day starting at 8a. At week’s end, an “NYE Alien Invasion” block airs all day on New Year’s Eve starting at 8 a.
Shaquille O’Neal is hosting “The Shaq’tacular Spectacular,” a VR New Year’s Eve countdown special, available across Meta Quest, Facebook, Instagram & Messenger’s Watch Together, featuring performances by Cardi B, Ludacris, Lil Yachty, Killer Mike, WHIPPED CREAM, and DJ DIESEL, along with additional special guest appearances by Rob Gronkowski and Camille Kostek.
For the fourth consecutive year, Powerball will hold a special drawing for the $1 million prize just after midnight EST on the ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.” Jessie James Decker will return as the Powerball co-host and provide live updates throughout the evening.

FOX Sports announced lead play-by-play announcer John Strong and lead match analyst Stu Holden will call the World Cup Qatar 2022 showdowns featuring Lionel Messi and Argentina vs. Luka Modri? and Croatia, and Kylian Mbappé and France vs. Youssef En-Nesyri and Morocco. Geoff Shreeves will report from the sidelines for Argentina vs. Croatia today, while Jenny Taft anchors sideline reporting for France vs. Morocco on Wednesday. Dr. Joe Machnik will serve as rules analyst for the Semifinals on FOX. Live coverage for both matches starts at 1p, leading up to 2p kick offs.
Scott Shapiro has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Sports Programming for Premiere Networks. In Shapiro’s new position, he will continue to oversee the daily execution of the company’s sports programming and content, including the FOX Sports Radio Network.

MTV announced the global expansion of the “Drag Race” franchise with three new editions in Brazil, Germany and Mexico which will air on MTV/Paramount+ in their respective territories. The US version of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” heads to MTV for season 15 on Friday, January 6 at 8p.
Armoza Formats announced that “Dance Revolution” from Québecor Content and Fair-Play, which originally aired on Canada’s TVA, has now signed a pan-Baltic and pan-African deal. The rights have been taken by Elitaz Productions, who previously produced the Lithuanian adaptation
Beyond Rights has secured new deals with several broadcasters in the UK. Included among them: A+E Networks UK has acquired “Loot”; ITV has acquired a true crime package for its recently launched ITVX platform; UK TV has taken “Kathy Burke: All Woman,” “Abandoned Engineering,” and “Stacey Dooley: Locked Up With the Lifers”; and CBS Reality in the UK struck a deal for a package of three crime and investigation titles.
Japan’s Nippon TV has finalized another deal with Netflix for the second season (of its global phenomenon “Old Enough!”. The episodes are set to stream globally to over 190 countries on Netflix beginning on New Year’s Day, 2023.
