ESPN announced plans to showcase seven 2016 MLB Opening Day Games during the first two days of the regular season, anchored by a Mets/Royals World Series rematch on Sunday Night Baseball on April 3 at 8:30p. In addition, Opening Day coverage will include Cardinals/Pirates at 1p and Blue Jays/Rays at 4p. The next day, the channel throws fans a quadrupleheader starting at 1p, with a slate that includes Astros/Yankees; Mariners/Rangers and Dodgers/Padres while ESPN2 carries Cubs/Angels at 10p.
Tennis Channel is renewing its vows with the ATP World Tour and its broadcast arm ATP Media, locking in a long-term extension for broadcast rights. The deal includes 21 annual men’s Masters 1000 and 500-level events including March events in Southern California and Miami, in addition to the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. As part of the new agreement, Tennis Channel will add to its live coverage beginning in 2016, and will have exclusive television and authenticated-digital rights for all but four of the Masters 1000 and 500-level events. "We are delighted to renew our long-term partnership with Tennis Channel as they provide an outstanding service to the tennis fan in the U.S.," said Mark Webster, CEO, ATP Media. "Furthermore, we look forward to a superb collaboration to showcase the finest tennis players competing at the world’s most exciting venues."
Meanwhile, Impact Wrestling found a new home, inking a deal with Pop. The channel will now carry a live two-hour broadcast on Jan. 5 with the series running on Tuesday nights at 9p. "Wrestling has been a fan-fueled staple since the ’50s, and continues to be some of the most-watched appointment television today. The die-hard fandom and extraordinary passion surrounding Impact Wrestling captures the spirit of Pop as a network that celebrates fan-driven entertainment and excitement," said Brad Schwartz, President of Pop. "We’re committed to this new partnership and psyched to bring the show’s loyal fans a dedicated night to watch their favorite show on Pop every week."
The NHL confirmed late Wednesday night that the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game will get a facelift, with the league transforming the event into a 3-on-3 All-Star Tournament featuring players from each division. The new format will divide the All-Star Game into three 20-minute games, with star players from each Division making up the four All-Star teams: Pacific, Central, Atlantic, and Metropolitan in a fight for $1 million. The 2016 Honda NHL All-Star celebration will also include the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition on Jan. 30 in addition to the Jan. 31 tournament. In addition to the new format, the NHL announced today that Honda will expand its League support as title sponsor for the 2016 NHL All-Star festivities in Nashville.
FOX Sports detailed more of its plans for landing in Pearl Harbor from Dec. 4-7 to honor the U.S. military. Joining the lineup will be an international soccer friendly on FS1 pitting the United -States Women’s National Team/Trinidad & Tobago on Dec. 6 at 8 from Aloha Stadium in Honolulu. The Pearl Harbor visit comes as part of “FOX Salutes the Military,” made possible by presenting sponsor Budweiser and associate sponsors USAA, Ford Motor Company and the 20th Century Fox film The Revenant. Other highlights will include MLB Clinics, a Ford Pier Set adjacent to the USS Missouri, FOX NFL Sunday live from the Ford Pier as the sun rises over Pearl Harbor, the FS1 Pearl Harbor Invitational as well as featured vignettes.
USA Network and WWE celebrate the holiday season with WWE Week starting Dec. 20. Programming will include Santa’s Little Helper a comedy from WWE Studios and 20th Century Fox starring WWE Superstar The Miz and WWE Diva Paige. Monday will feature Monday Night Raw and the 2015 WWE Slammy Awards, with Smackdown on Dec. 22 and a two-hour WWE Tribute to the Troops special on Dec. 23. The week will also include a daytime roadblock featuring interviews with WWE Superstars and Divas.

Headlined by undefeated WBO International and NABF Super Middleweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez/Gevorg Khatchikian, Bruce Beck will offer play-by-play with analysts Timothy Bradley and Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini and reporter Crystina Poncher.
CBS Sports’ We Need to Talk will return to the broadcast channel on Saturday at 2p with a one-hour special featuring panelists Dana Jacobson, Amy Trask, Andrea Kremer and Lisa Leslie. Features will include a sit down with Michele Roberts, Executive Director of the National Basketball Players Association and an interview with Panthers tight end Greg Olsen.
Meanwhile, HBO announced that Tuesday’s edition of Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel will include segments about elephant hunting and a profile about Mike “Doc” Emrick.
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and NBC Sports unveiled plans to offer live coverage of the Nature Valley Aspen Winternational (Nov. 27-29) and Audi Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek (Dec. 4-6). NBC and NBCSN will broadcast 6.5 hours between the two TV networks in addition to live stream coverage on NBC Sports Live Extra. U.S. Ski Team athlete Bode Miller will join Dan Hicks, Steve Porino and Todd Brooker as an analyst during NBC Sports’ coverage of Audi Birds of Prey.
FOX Sports chronicles the US Open in its upcoming special, 2015 U.S. Open: Spieth’s Northwest Conquest. The program runs on Nov. 26 at 4p on FOX following the Thanksgiving showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions. Jon Hamm narrates, with the show featuring “never-before seen imagery from Chambers Bay with iconic footage from the original broadcast.”
Canada’s Sportsnet announced that ESPN’s Dan Shulman will join the Toronto Blue Jays broadcast team. While he will continue to work for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball and NCAA men’s college basketball, he will now add as many as 30 Blue Jays games in each of the 2016 and 2017 seasons to his schedule, working beside Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler.

Anheuser-Busch is parking at Daytona International Speedway thanks to a multi-year partnership renewal that extends its status as the exclusive official beer sponsor of DIS and the Daytona 500. The deal will also provide Anheuser-Busch with naming rights to four locations within the new motorsports stadium as part of the Daytona Rising redevelopment project. Two of the bar locations to be featured in the new “World Center of Racing” central “neighborhood” zone and concourses, while the other two will be located in other parts of the stadium. All four locations will enable Anheuser-Busch to advertise multiple brands from its portfolio of beers including Busch, Budweiser, Bud Light and Stella Artois. Anheuser-Busch will also retain naming rights to the infield area the Budweiser Bistro.
Adidas CEO Herbert Hainer called for reform at FIFA by setting limits on the term and age of its future. Reuters reports that Hainer also said the role of FIFA president should be more corporate, with the role similar to a company CEO, overseen by a supervisory body. "It doesn’t help at all for just one person to go. You have to fundamentally change the organization," Hainer said in an interview with the WirtschaftsWoche magazine.
Spalding has named Walton Isaacson as its agency of record following a competitive pitch. A new campaign will break in February and feature athletes such as Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers and DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors. "Walton Isaacson separated themselves from the competition by delivering strategic thinking that was rooted in consumer insights as well as an innovative creative approach that will break through the clutter," said Kenyatta Bynoe, Senior Director of Marketing at Spalding. "We couldn’t be more thrilled to collaborate with them as we continue to build equity in the Spalding brand."
NBC Olympics launched its Snapchat account as the clock continues to tick toward the Summer Games next year. The platform will offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at the massive joint effort between NBC Sports and the USOC to capture marketing and social media content this week that will be used in advance of the 2016 Rio Olympics. Over the course of five days, 16 NBCUniversal divisions or programs will capture content from more than 100 Team USA athletes, who will be conducting interviews, posing for photo shoots, changing wardrobes, and interacting with samba dancers, comedians, supermodels and puppies.
espnW is teaming with Marvel Comics to create “super” takes on the 2015 “IMPACT25” list, which honors athletes and influencers who have made the biggest mark on women in sports this year. Overall, the list will feature 24 nominees, plus The espnW Woman of the Year. The alliance will see Marvel artists utilize their various creative styles to highlight the special talents of the honorees and create a super version of each. Kicking off the series was an illustration of U.S. Women’s National Team star Carli Lloyd beside Captain Marvel. IBM unveiled the Sports and Entertainment Global Consortium, launched to “design, build and deliver the ultimate fan experience” as well as a new Sports, Entertainment and Fan Experience consulting practice led by Jim Rushton, who joins IBM after serving as Chief Revenue Officer of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium. The consortium pulls together IBM’s world leading information technology and recognized leaders in such areas as, construction and design, network infrastructure, wireless and telecommunications to offer clients an integrated capability spanning design, strategy, technology and data to drive growth and profit across all sports enterprise businesses.
Parks Associates revealed its ranking of the top ten subscription OTT video services based on number of subscribers. While Netflix took the top spot, the WWE, the NFL, and MLB also made the rankings. MLB.TV came in at #4, followed by WWE Network at #5, while NFL Game Pass came in at #8. MLB.TV peaked following the end of the 2015 World Series, and NFL Game Pass is going strong midway through the new NFL season. In contrast, the WWE Network is resisting the seasonality common to other sports OTT video services and continues to add subscribers.
