“DC’s Stargirl” will end with season three, currently airing on The CW. But viewers will not be left hanging. “With all the brewing changes at the network, we were aware this was possibly the last season, so we wrote with that in mind and have delivered what I believe to be the best season of ‘Stargirl’ yet, with complete creative closure,” said series creator Geoff Johns.

About 27% of respondents in a survey by Trustworthy Accountability Group and Brand Safety Institute said advertisers should not appear adjacent to news about “murders and violent crimes,” while 26% said advertisers should avoid appearing near stories about “controversial politicians.” Around 22% said advertisers should not appear near news about abortion, lesbian and gay issues, police brutality, and riots, while 18%, said advertisers should avoid running ads next to stories about the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine. Forty-six percent said all “high-quality news coverage” should be appropriate for ads.

Charter announced the launch of Spectrum One for new and existing subscribers across all its markets. “With Spectrum One, we have created the nation’s first fully converged connectivity experience to power today’s wireless world,” said Adam Ray, EVP and Chief Commercial Officer for Charter. “Just as the cable industry expanded and improved television, replaced dial-up with broadband and saved consumers money with wireline voice, now we are bringing our successful Mobile services together with Internet and Advanced WiFi to make customers’ connected devices work better, faster, securely and less expensively than before.”

Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution and Sinclair Broadcast Group have renewed their agreement for ABC affiliates across all Sinclair stations into 2026. “The renewals reflect the evolving media landscape and the continued value of the symbiotic relationship between ABC’s programming and the local news and syndicated content we provide,” said Will Bell, SVP and Head of Distribution and Network Relations for Sinclair.

In more Sinclair news, the company reports its Growth Networks Group Comet, Charge!, and TBD – grew faster than all other digital multicast networks, across all dayparts in 3Q22. Driven by the additions of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “CSI:NY,” along with nearly 15 million additional TV households, the networks saw double digit ratings increases. Comet realized a 31% increase in access, CHARGE! up 31% in primetime and TBD scored a 27% increase for total day.

New Twitter head Elon Musk hopes to revive Vine, the video-looping app shuttered by Twitter in 2016. Axios reports Musk instructed engineers to examine Vine’s old code base, with the goal of rebooting it by the end of the year. Musk posted a poll on Sunday asking Twitter users if they’d like a return of Vine; 69.5% of voters gave the idea a thumbs up.

Starting December 1, CJC Network will broadcast 24/7 in eight of the top ten television markets in the US. “We have continued to dominate the OTA and OTT markets with our partners at Local Now, DistroTV, Freecast, PLEX, theGrio only to name a few,” said Leah Cohen, CJS spokesperson. “It only made sense for us to continue entering the broadcast and cable space in a major way.”

Urban One hosted about 200 advertisers, talent and executives for “One Night of Black Culture” last week in NYC. The evening, dedicated to showcasing Black culture, music, and arts through the lens Urban One’s platforms, included a panel discussion with D.L. Hughley, Chef Jernard, Erica Campbell, Jake & Jazz Smollett, and Lore’l as well as a performance by Alicia Keys.

Peacock handed a series order to “Friday the 13th” prequel “Crystal Lake,” from A24 and writer, showrunner and executive producer Bryan Fuller. A24, Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian will also executive produce. “I discovered ‘Friday the 13th’ in the pages of Famous Monsters magazine when I was 10 years old and I have been thinking about this story ever since,” said Fuller.

Glasgow-based production company Freedom Scripted has acquired the rights to Lucid, the memoir by Lucy Holden. Freedom Scripted is turning the book into a TV series, with Holden attached to adapt.

The footballers coming from the famous Benfica Campus are featured in the docuseries “Factory of Dreams: Benfica,” from NEO Studios. The show is set for distribution in the US along with key European and Asia markets in the coming weeks. Both current academy players and some of the club’s famous graduates are featured in four episodes incorporating a year of filming.

Eight actors have been added to the season two cast of Apple TV+ workplace thriller “Severance”: Bob Baliban (“The Chair”); Robby Benson (“One to One”); Stefano Carannante (“Mirabilia”); Gwendoline Christie (“Game of Thrones”); John Noble (“Fringe”); Olafur Darri Olafsson (“The Tourist”); Alia Shawkat (“Search Party”); and Merritt Wever (“Godless”).

In more casting news, Cristin Milioti will play the female lead in HBO Max limited series “The Penguin (wt), opposite Colin Farrell….Mark Consuelos (“Alpha House”) has joined HBO Max’s “The Girls on the Bus” in a recurring role….Onboard Fox’s “Animal Control” are Michael Rowland (“This Week at the Comedy Central”), Grace Palmer (“Good Grief”), Gerry Dee (“The Moodys”), Kelli Ogmundson (“Cavendish”), and Alvina August (“Nancy Drew”).

STREAMING

Over 6300 episodes from the CBS library will be available on corporate sib Pluto TV by year’s end. “Both of our teams are continually benefitting from insights and learnings around FAST programming performance to help define future strategies that benefit each of our businesses,” said George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS. “The overwhelming success of the ‘CSI’ and ‘48 Hours’ channels on Pluto TV are just two recent examples of how our broadcast franchises are connecting with a growing and often unduplicated streaming audience. We think we’re just getting started in how we can work together with Pluto TV for the benefit of our content and the company.”

In the (St.) Nick of time, Peacock has entered into an agreement with Hallmark Media to stream live and on-demand programming from Hallmark Channel, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and Hallmark Drama. The dedicated brand hub will be prominently featured on Peacock’s home page and feature live simulcasts of all three channels with current season programming available live and on-demand next day as well as a library of movies within the Hallmark library. “As we continue to make Peacock a premium streaming destination, Hallmark is exactly the type of brand we want to align with,” said Kelly Campbell, President of Peacock, and Direct-to-Consumer, NBCUniversal. “Through this groundbreaking partnership, we’re giving Hallmark viewers a unique viewing experience while continuing to grow our audience, boosting engagement across both brands.”

Rakuten Viki, the streaming service for Asian content, and Tencent Video are teaming to bring a line-up of new Chinese dramas to the Rakuten Viki streaming platform. Rakuten Viki now features a Tencent Video x WeTV branded hub where fans can view the collection in one place.

Law&Crime is expanding its availability on Cox Media Group’s CTV apps, websites and mobile news apps. CMG apps are available for free on most major platforms including Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, Apple TV and Samsung TV (coming soon).

COMING UP

MeTV stunt “A Very Merry MeTV” kicks off Sunday, November 20 at 12p with Thanksgiving and holiday-themed episodes from classic TV shows, plus TV movies, specials and more. Programming continues through Christmas Day.

The list of performers for the “2022 American Music Awards” includes Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons, J.I.D, P!NK, Tems, Wizkid and Yola. The ceremony takes place Sunday, November 29 at 8p on ABC.

Kanal D Drama premieres romantic comedy “Romance a la Vuelta” tomorrow, November 2 through its linear channel and app in the US. The series will be dubbed into Spanish. “Surprisingly, the success of our Turkish series continues to provoke great admiration and desire for the prototypical Turkish man, to whom Latinas have assigned all the attributes of the classic heartthrob: seductive, elegant, cultured, and successful, and this profile has dethroned traditional Latin American heartthrobs forever,” said Francheska León de la Barra, Marketing Manager of Kanal D Drama.

The Big 12 has reportedly struck a deal for a six-year contract extension that will keep the conference’s media rights with ESPN and Fox through the 2030-31 college sports seasons. Sports Business Journal was first to report the deal would be worth $380 annually.

CBS Sports has announced the 3:30p game on Saturday, November 12 will feature No. 6 Alabama visiting No. 11 Ole Miss, as part of its college football doubleheader. CBS Sports’ game at noon will be a six-day selection. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Jenny Dell will be on the call for Alabama-Ole Miss from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Miss.

Political ad spending within sports programming across linear cable and related digital networks grew 170% in 2020 vs. 2018 and is poised to meet if not exceed the 2020 record in 2022, according to Viamedia. ESPN continues to lead in the political ad category for all sports-carrying cable networks (TBS, TNT, USA, ESPN2, FX, FS1, NFL Network, CBS Sports Network), the college conference networks (including Big Ten Network, SEC Network, ACC Network among others), as well as regional sports networks. “The 800-pound gorilla in political ad spending on cable continues to be Fox News, followed by CNN, with other news nets distantly following,” said David Solomon, President & CEO at Viamedia. “Noteworthy is that, while news net political ad spend is increasing, sports in particular has taken off as a category of programming drawing political dollars.”

The XL revealed the brand identities, names and logos for its eight teams as the League prepares for its season kickoff on February 18. Featuring both new and returning team names, each market has a logo and team identity that aligns with its community’s culture and history. “Every one of these logos has a unique energy, intensity, and electricity that each team and their fans will bring on game day. Now is the time for our fans to get behind a team – THEIR team – and wear these logos and represent their city with pride,” said owner Dwayne Johnson. “We have our cities, our team identities, and our rockstar coaches. FITE and Game Changer Wrestling announced that all GCW events will now be available exclusively on FITE+. Fans will also have VOD access to 240 past GCW events.

Buzzer struck a new agreement with ATP Media to distribute short form live match content, expanding Buzzer’s portfolio of sports available on the platform. The partnership will allow fans to discover and access short-form tennis content.

NBC’s “Sunday Night Football,” featuring the Buffalo Bills and the Green Bay Packers, delivered its largest Week 8 audience since 2015, averaging a Total Audience Delivery of approximately 21.0 million viewers. Viewership, based on preliminary data across NBC TV, Peacock, NBC Sports Digital, and NFL Digital platforms tops last year’s Week 8 “SNF” game by 24% (Cowboys-Vikings, 16.9 million).

The season two premiere of “The White Lotus” drew just over 1.5 million viewers in the US on Sunday night across HBO Max and linear telecasts, according to a combination of Nielsen and first party data. Total cross-platform viewing was up 63% vs. the season one premiere night (944,000) and up 35% compared to the average debut night audience for each episode across season one (1.1 million).

Last week’s “Halloween Baking Championship” ranked as the #1 non-news/sports cable program among P/W18+ and P/W 25-54 and hit a season high, posting 1.0 P18+ / 1.4 W18+ L3 ratings, and now stands as Food Network’s highest-rated telecast since April among both demos.
