.Monday’s launch of Supergirl drew a 3.1/9 among A18-49, according to Nielsen. The superhero series flew high on social, too, ranking a solid first among new series for digital content engagement the day after its debut. Second place Scream Queens on Fox delivered 27 percent as much digital content engagement as Supergirl, followed by ABC’s The Muppets, with 23 percent of the engagement.
Fox gave a back-nine order for freshman comedy The Grinder. While the show delivered a soft 2.9 million viewers and .9 rating on October 20, it’s a winner with reviewers (and owned by Fox). “The Grinder is the perfect combination of razor-sharp wit and relatable family dynamics – two hallmarks of successful comedies,” said Fox entertainment president David Madden. Other newbies boasting full-season order are CBS’s Limitless, NBC’s Blindspot, Fox’s Rosewood and ABC’s Quantico and Dr. Ken.
On the other side of the coin, NBC snipped freshman Truth Be Told’s 13-episode order to ten. The comedy, produced by Universal Television, delivered .6 in the A18-49 demo on Friday.
Racial diversity in TV is increasing, according to GLAAD’s annual report. “Where We Are on TV” found that out of the 881 regular characters on primetime broadcast shows, 287 of them are people of color, up 6 percent from last year. Of that number 145 are African American, the highest number since GLAAD started counting. The news wasn’t so rosy for transgender characters. The advocacy group found none in broadcast, and only three recurring trans roles on cable. Streaming services did much better, with seven percent of characters transgender.
The production schedule for ABC Family’s Baby Daddy is being rearranged to accommodate the recovery of star Jean-Luc Bilodeau, injured Saturday night at a Halloween party. “Jean-Luc’s costume caught on fire when he got too close to an open flame and he suffered burns to his legs and arms,” said a rep for the performer. “Per his doctor, he is expected to make a full recovery.” The comedy had been slated to return for season five February 3 at 8:30p.

WAY MORE FUN.
Last week we asked our readers to tell us, "What was your best (or worst) Halloween costume?"
Here is what your colleagues had to say…
- I thought it would be nostalgic and amusing, so I dressed up as ‘Heat Miser’ from The Year Without a Santa Claus. I not only managed to horrify every child in my neighborhood, but also walked into a party and instantly won ‘Most Terrifying Costume.’ – Sterling Rome, Executive Producer, Shinebox Inc.
- My best costume is when I dressed as a broken heart (or heart-broken). It was timely for what was going on at that moment and the party I was at, so I would consider it the best. – Jenna Racz, Associate Director, National Video Investment, OMD
- The Supremes. Not the 60s girl group, but – Kagan and Sotomayor (I was Sotomayor). – Blake Callaway, EVP Marketing, IFC
- I was a crayon when I was little – couldn’t bend my knees to walk or sit! – Lindsey Ingram, Group Media Design Leader (Media Director), Barkley
Next week’s question is… "Who’s your favorite comedian and why?"
Join in and don’t miss out on all of the fun! Send your response to next week’s question today to [email protected].
