BabyFirst TV and the National Hispanic Media Coalition announced the winner of their Rising Creators Project Programming Competition, which invited emerging writers, musicians, animators and producers to submit creative ideas for a series to air for two years on BabyFirst. Winning entry Team Abuelita, which chronicles a superhero and her team of friends who save the day from situations including bullies and rival siblings, was submitted by Zoila Amelia Galeano and Jennifer Dornbush.
AXS TV is spotlighting a new and innovative brand of filmmaking with its exclusive special covering the best entries from the inaugural 2015 New York City Drone Film Festival. The 90-minute special premieres on Wednesday, October 21, at 11p and is hosted by founder and festival director Randy Scott Slavin.
It’s beginning to feel a lot like the holidays on Hallmark Channel. The net’s annual Countdown To Christmas TV event returns October 31 with 55 continuous days of holiday-themed family entertainment, including 17 original holiday-themed movie premieres. This year’s lineup features the directorial debut of Grammy-winning artist Mariah Carey in the original film A Christmas Melody, in which she also stars, airing December 19. In 2014, Countdown to Christmas brought 74 million viewers to the network in November and December.
TV One will present today a two-and-half hour programming event in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the Million Man March, including the network TV premiere of documentary The Million Man March Story, followed by a News One Now primetime roundtable discussion led by host and managing editor Roland S. Martin.
Calling all armchair sleuths. A&E Network’s non-fiction crime slate will be back for new seasons this fall. The First 48 returns for its 15th season on Thursday, November 5, at 9p, followed at 10p by the second season premiere of Nightwatch, from executive producer Dick Wolf. Nightwatch follows elite teams of emergency responders in New Orleans as they brave the the perilous overnight shift. In its first season, Nightwatch averaged 1.3 million total viewers and is currently A&E’s No. 1 new series of 2015 across all key demos.
David Tutera is back for a brand new celebrity-filled third season of David Tutera’s CELEBrations, premiering on WE tv Friday, October 30, at 10p. Celebrity clients include Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty) Vivica A. Fox (Celebrity Apprentice), Kim Coles (Living Single), Ian Ziering (Sharknado), Cynthia Bailey (The Real Housewives of Altanta), Big Ang Raiola (Mob Wives) and Reza Farahan (Shahs of Sunset).
AMC committed to ‘80s tech-boom drama Halt and Catch Fire for a third season. Season 2 averaged 865,000 viewers according to Nielsen’s Live Plus-3 ratings, and just shy of 1 million in Live Plus-7.
IFC set the third season premiere of original comedy series Todd Margaret for Thursday, January 7, 2016. Starring David Cross (Arrested Development), the show about an American’s business snafus in London will return with the first three episodes of the six-episode series airing back-to-back beginning at 10p. The remaining three episodes will premiere the following week on Thursday, January 14 at 10p.
Also in the laughs department, TruTV renewed Impractical Jokers for a 26-ep fifth season. The order for new outrageous dares and punishments guaranteed to keep Sal, Joe, Murr and Q looking over their shoulders for what is next comes on the heels of the series’ biggest episode ever, a live highwire walk at South Street Seaport to celebrate their 100th episode that aired live September 3 and drew 3.7 million total viewers in Live + 3, truTV’s most watched telecast in 19 months. Series airs Thursday nights at 10p.
British actress Melanie Liburd (The Grinder) is seeing red. Liburd has been cast as the Red Priestess in HBO’s Game Of Thrones. The shape-shifting character previously has been played by Carice Van Houten.
USA pilot Poor Richard’s Almanack (wt) added a series of cast members. Lynn Collins (Man On Carrion Road), Athena Karkanis (Low Winter Sun), Carly Pope (24) and Barbara Eve Harris (Prison Break) join the series as regulars.
Genius Brands International’s Kid Genius on-demand network is now available to approximately 21 million households across the US via Comcast’s Xfinity On Demand platform. The channel airs original animation series, including Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab, Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 and Secret Millionaires Club.

Wednesday’s season five premiere of FX’s American Horror Story (hi, Lady Gaga!) checked in with 5.81 million viewers for its Hotel installment. That’s a slight dip from last year’s season premiere of American Horror Story: Freak Show, which drew a viewership high of 6.13 million, but a healthy delayed viewing bump is expected.
TV One’s broadcast of the 2015 Triumph Awards premiere reached 1.7 million viewers P2+, according to Nielsen TV Toolbox, Live+3. Additionally, the television debut of the awards on October 3 was a top three ad-supported cable entertainment telecast in Prime among key black demographics, including: W25-54 (2.42, 137,000), A25-54 (1.97, 194,000) and A18-49 (1.09, 118,000).
For the third consecutive season, the Bounce TV original series Family Time more than doubled its household viewership and increased all key demographic delivery over its season 2 premiere last year. The season premiere on Tuesday, October 6, at 9p delivered 237,000 households, an increase of 104 percent over the series premiere last year.
Across the pond, the finale of BBC cooking show Great British Bake-Off wins as most-watched TV program of the year, with an average audience of 13.4 million people and a peak audience of 14.5 million.
