VIDEOS IN SHORT

The Univision Creator Network launched 5 digital shows for Facebook platform Watch, featuring Hispanic creators in scripted comedy series. Shows include Mexican Survival Guide, Las Kardachas, The Gaylo Show, Bro-Mates and Montoya’s Hollywood Break-In.

DISTRIBUTION

CBS Corp. and Gray Television reached a multi-year deal that renews station affiliation agreements that would have expired over the next couple of years. All 32 Nielsen-designated markets in which Gray owns and operates its 39 CBS-affiliated stations are covered.

Altice USA and Disney reached “an agreement in principle” for a carriage deal and extended an already-extended deadline to finalize terms. The contract covers New York-area subscribers Altice USA got with its 2016 acquisition of Cablevision. Altice, known for driving a hard bargain, is trying to get more advantageous terms in agreements; Disney ran ads threatening to yank its programming from Altice’s Optimum cable subscribers if the parties couldn’t hammer something out.

Despite a retrans dispute that had Lilly Broadcasting’s One Caribbean Television in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands blacked out on Dish Network, in light of the devastation in the area, Lilly has given Dish permission to continue to carry the stations. “During this humanitarian crisis, it’s critical for people to have access to more information, not less, whether one home or 10,000 can access the stations,” said EVP of marketing, programming and media sales at Dish Warren Schlichting.

ADVERTISING

The scale and extent to which data is misrepresented by Facebook is greater than originally thought, according to a report from the Video Advertising Bureau. Among the findings: Facebook’s estimated daily reach is 2x-12x larger than what it should be based on basic media math, and there is a gap of over 10 million adults 18-34 between the high and low range for a demo-targeted, one-day $5K buy. “There appears to be a systematic misrepresentation of data across the board, at a scale unlike anything we’ve ever seen,” said VAB president and CEO Sean Cunningham. “Advertisers need to know that the data and metrics they’re viewing are valid, and third-party verification, rather than simply accepting data at face value, is the only way to ensure that advertisers get what they pay for.”

On average, a 30-second commercial in broadcast primetime for the 2017-18 season will set advertisers back $134,009, a 6% rise from last season, according to Ad Age’s annual pricing survey. Biggest ticket items are NBC’s Sunday Night Football ($699,602), NBC’s Thursday Night Football ($550,709), CBS’s Thursday Night Football ($549,791), NBC’s This Is Us ($394,428) and Fox’s Empire ($305,369).

 GOING GLOBAL

Fox’s new Marvel drama The Gifted, which debuted in the U.S. last night, is also rolling out in 183 countries across 21st Century Fox’s Fox channels. The day-and-date launch is part of Fox Networks Group’s international strategy for viral, high profile series (think The Walking Dead, Prison Break and The X-Files).

Keshet International struck deals for NBC’s The Brave, produced by Universal Television and Keshet Studios, to HBO Asia and TVNZ in New Zealand. The deal with HBO Asia sees the drama available across 18 territories on HBO Asia’s network of channels.

Drive announced several factual sales from UK indie producers, among them specials A Very Royal Wedding to Australia’s SBS, Canads’s CBC and NRK Norway, and Marilyn Monroe: Auction of a Lifetime to Smithsonian Channel in the US, CBC Canada, DR Denmark, NRK Norway and Foxtel Australia.

Included in the MIPCOM slate of feel-good programming from Media Ranch are reality TV format Pay it Forward, Dutch comedy panel show Who Am I?, and reality adventure format The Eyes of the Sea.

UK’s World Media Rights is moving into drama production for the first time following an agreement with English boxing legend Frank Warren to develop a drama series, Kings of the Ring (wt), based on his life.
