NBCUniversal News Group filed a request to televise Donald Trump’s election conspiracy trial. While federal court districts have prohibited video and audio coverage of criminal proceedings, the news group is asking for a pool camera with limited broadcast delay or for the court to provide live feed. NBCU has cited the extraordinary circumstances of a former president facing criminal charges. In an application filed on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., NBCU’s legal team, led by Theodore Boutrous Jr., wrote: “If ever a trial were to be televised, this one should be, the benefit of American democracy.” Monday, March 4 has been scheduled as the start date for the trial.

A documentary about Kevin Hart and Chris Rock’s 2022 stand-up tour is coming to Netflix. “The Late Night Show” is on hold for the rest of the week, due to Stephen Colbert’s Covid diagnosis. Although Colbert initially hosted a show from his home, he’s since stopped “per doctor’s orders. I’m going to be out the rest of the week. Resting up so that I can deliver the hand crafted, artisanal talk show that we so enjoy serving you,” said Colbert. “In the meantime, a heady blend of Paxlovid and onions in my socks (thank you, Fallon) will be rebuilding my immune system.”

Viewers are paying for TV services the don’t fully use, according to Inscape’s latest report. According to its Q2 2023 TV Market Trends report, about 5% of U.S. cable/satellite households have outright quit viewing content via their cable TV and satellite options in the second quarter of the year. According to Inscape data, while streaming commands 56.5% of overall TV viewing, that falls to 23.1% for sports and 14. 7% for news. Cable/satellite/antenna accounts for 43.5% of overall TV viewing time, but dominates in sports (76.9%) and news (85.3%).
