Hulu renewed “Only Murders in the Building” for season four. The premiere of the third season, guest starring Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd, received the most viewers of any scripted Hulu Original this year. “Murders” is the streamer’s most-watched comedy original ever.

Discovery+ has increased its subscriber fee for the first time. The Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service is now $8.99 per month, up from $6.99 per month; the ad-supported option remains $4.99.

Demi Lovato will have a jingle bell rock this season. Roku’s “A Very Demi Holiday Special” stars Lovato as she performs holiday hits, a surprise duet and a selection of her own songs. Lovato said, “The holidays are such a special time of year, and I can’t wait to put my special twist on the celebrations.” The special launches on December 8.

Paramount+ announced a global partnership with Alterra Mountain Company and Ikon Pass. The agreement brings the streaming service to all Ikon Pass holders for three months. Paramount+ and Alterra will kick off the upcoming tour of The Lodge: A Paramount Experience at four locations across Alterra’s destinations: Steamboat, CO, Palisades Tahoe, CA, Winter Park, CO and Stratton, VT.

Wasserman has officially acquired CMS Sport & Entertainment. The move is intended to expand the management and marketing company’s reach in pro-sports, music and entertainment.

Colton Underwood’s new production company kicks off with a reality dating series. As Best Friends Productions, founded by the former pro footballer – who was the first star of “The Bachelor” to come out as gay – and his husband, currently has three projects in development, including a feature documentary and two unscripted series.

Boat Rocker announced “The Next Step” will return for season 9. The series is set to premiere on CBBC and BBC iPlayer in early 2024 to coincide with the celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the reality dance drama. Nick Nantell, EVP and head of scripted creative at Boat Rocker Studios, said, “We’re delighted to celebrate a decade of drama – both on and off the dance floor.”

“The Head” is in development at The Mediapro Studio. Ran Tellem, TMS head of international content development, said at the Iberseries & Industria Platino, “‘The Head’ started out something like four years ago as a limited series only for six episodes and now it’s going into its third season, so you might say we never lived up to our promises.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

“The War on Disco” premieres Monday, October 30 on BS. The documentary produced by Lisa Q. Wolfinger and Rushmore DeNooyer explores the culture war that resulted from the rise of disco music.

“Criminal Record” debuts with two episodes January 12 on Apple TV+. The eight-episode crime thriller series starring Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo will air one new episode each Friday through February 23.

Prime Video’s “Twin Love” with Brie and Nikki Garcia explores the love lives of ten sets of twins who are split up and placed into two houses, creating identical casts, where they’ll begin the search for a match. The social experiment kicks off November 17.

“Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe” premieres on Prime Video on Friday. Delving into the online group run out of suburban Michigan by YouTube influencers Jeff and Shaleia Divine, in which the couple promises to match members with their perfect partner, the series features video footage with the group’s leaders and sit-downs with families of those who remain involved.

KIDS & FAMILY

StudioCanal, Mercis and Superprod announced “Miffy,” a new CGI animated series. Based on the character created by Dick Bruna in 1955, the series is currently in development with CANAL+ and will launch on the channel in 2025.

WildBrain and Mattel greenlit “Polly Pocket” season 6 and “Fireman Sam” season 16. WildBrain has also secured new international distribution deals for previous seasons of both shows, in addition to new deals for Mattel titles “Bob the Builder” and “Little People.”

Apple announced its kids and family holiday programming lineup. In addition to Apple Original special “The Velveteen Rabbit,” based on the Margery Williams classic, launching on November 22, the streamer will release holiday-themed episodes from series including “The Snoopy Show,” “Frog and Toad” and “Shape Island.” Apple TV+ will also provide special free windows for nonsubscribers to stream the specials from Mendelson/Melendez Productions and Peanuts Worldwide.

Zodiak Kids & Family Distribution acquired “Moominvalley.” Inspired by the Moomin stories by Tove Jansson, it is produced by Finnish production company Gutsy Animations in collaboration with YLE and Sky and Viaplay. The Banijay Kids & Family division will represent worldwide distribution, including digital, for all series.

Toonz, Epic Story Media and Chef Aliya LeeKong have teamed up to develop “Issa’s Edible Adventures.” The animated series is centered around 7-year-old Issa, an aspiring chef who, with her best friends, ventures out in search of one ingredient to complete a dish, according to the description.

COMING UP

Four culinary stars join Selena Gomez on “Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays.” Chefs Eric Adjepong, Alex Guarnaschelli, Michael Symon and Claudette Zepeda will star in four new specials, cooking up everything from surf ‘n’ turf to malva pudding, beginning November 30 at 8p.

Hulu will serve as the official streaming destination of the Austin City Limits Music Festival. This year’s live stream will be available to all Hulu subscribers at no additional cost from this Friday to Sunday, October 8, and will include performances from artists including Foo Fighters, Alanis Morisette, Maggie Rogers and more.

RATINGS

Sparks are flying between Taylor Swift and the NFL. Rumored to be dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Swift attended the team’s game against the New York Jets on Sunday, ushering in 27 million TV and streaming viewers with her. It was the largest streaming audience ever for a regular-season Sunday NFL game – up 42% from the previous week, according to the network. Female viewers 12-17 were up 53%, women 18-24 were up 24% and women 35+ increased 34%. NBC also produced a “Taylor Made for Sunday Night” promo for “Sunday Night Football,” which has been viewed approximately eight million times.

The newly-released fourth season of “Sex Education” continues to top the charts on Netflix. The series earned 13.4M views in its second week on the streamer, up from last week’s 12M. Next up in the running was “Who Killed Jill Dando?” followed by “Love is Blind” and “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal.”

Anna Priest is the first head of Paramount+ in the UK. The former chief marketing officer will oversee the streamer’s strategy in the nation and track growth opportunities.

Warner Bros. Discovery France boss Pierre Branco has left the company. Branco is the latest international executive to leave his post, following that of EMEA’s Priya Dogra, Germany’s Hannes Heyelmann and International Distribution Chief Robert Blair. International boss Gerhard Zeiler said, “I am extremely grateful to Pierre for his contribution to our company. His focus on the necessities of today and the knowledge of the needs of tomorrow means he never lost sight of the long-term view of our business.”

Amy Reinhard has replaced Jeremi Gorman at Netflix. Previously VP of studio operations, Reinhard succeeded Gorman as the new president of advertising. “I want to thank Jeremi for building our ads business from scratch.” Said Co-CEO Greg Peters said. “In just one year, she’s built the foundations we need to succeed – attracting world-class brands to Netflix and an incredible team.”

pocket.watch appointed Jeff Siegel as global head of content distribution. Siegel will oversee global sales strategy for the company’s library of brands in the kids’ entertainment space.

Joy Allen-Altimare is the new chief revenue officer, North America, at Havas Media Network. Allen-Altimare will oversee the agency’s client experience, growth and multicultural teams.
