ELEAGUE will once again fuel up Rocket League esports action, announcing nine upcoming episodes of originally produced coverage, beginning with the six-part ELEAGUE | Road to the Rocket League World Championship on Oct. 4, and Oct. 11, immediately following live MLB Postseason coverage on TBS. The series will continue Friday, Oct. 18, at 11p or following Postseason game coverage (if necessary) as well as Oct. 25, Nov. 1 and Nov. 8. Following the six-part series, ELEAGUE will present an additional two-part Rocket League-centric program, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20, at 11p on TBS. Additional details surrounding this programming will be shared leading up to the premiere.

The Overwatch League Grand Final telecast on ABC on Sunday drew 300,000 viewers to the televised showing, according to early Nielsen numbers with 116K in the 18-49 demographic tuning in per Showbuzz Daily. Up against NFL competition this year, that number is up from last year’s live Grand Finals day 1 telecast on ESPN, which drew 215K, although off-pace from some telecasts earlier in the season. The Shock’s win over Titans also scored a peak audience of 314,902 on primary streaming channels, per Stream Hatchet. Official, detailed numbers are expected in the next day or two.
ESL One Cologne powered by Intel will once again return to LANXESS arena next year. From July 6-12, 2020, the tournament will feature competition amongst the 16 best CS:GO teams, as they strive to cement themselves as the champions of the first-ever summer Masters Championship within the ESL Pro Tour. Teams will also fight for a title towards the Intel Grand Slam and for their share of the US$1 million in prize money. “By introducing the ESL Pro Tour we want to give every team, no matter how known or unknown they are as of yet, the chance to go from zero to hero”, said Ulrich Schulze, Senior Vice President of Product at ESL. “Through the open ecosystem we have created, ESL can truly make sure that the most talented teams in the world will get the chance they deserve. The Masters and Challengers build a coherent storyline throughout the year concluding in its climax: the Cathedral of Counter-Strike. ESL One Cologne motivates players around the world to climb up all levels of the ESL Pro Tour and fulfill their ambitions, celebrated by the fans in one of the most iconic venues of esports.” 
DreamHack is teaming up with Xbox for DreamHack Winter 2019 in Jonkoping, Sweden from Nov. 29-Dec. 1. The event will feature a Freeplay zone, where attendees will have access to a library of over 100 games with Xbox Game Pass on more than 140 Xbox One consoles, allowing guests to check out new games like Gears 5. DreamHack’s BYOC visitors will also be able to check out Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta), a new coming Xbox service. In addition, all Xbox Game Pass members will be able to access to the Xbox Game Pass lounge, including an area in Hall D to relax throughout the weekend in between games and activities.
Friday sees the NBA 2K League serve up its third NBA 2K League Draft Lottery as well as the second NBA 2K League Expansion Draft Lottery from the NBA office in New York City. The NBA 2K League Draft Lottery will determine the order of selection for the 13 lottery teams in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft. The two expansion teams – Hornets Venom GT and Gen.G’s recently announced NBA 2K League team will automatically hold the fifth and sixth picks in each round of the 2020 Draft. Fourteen ping-pong balls numbered 1 through 14 will be placed in a lottery machine. All 14 balls are placed in the lottery machine and are mixed for 20 seconds, then the first ball is removed. The remaining balls are mixed in the lottery machine for another 10 seconds, and then the second ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the third ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the fourth ball is drawn. The team that has been assigned any combination of the first four numbers drawn will receive the number one pick.
CS:GO tournament circuit BLAST Pro Series is now the newest member of the Esports Integrity Commission. Blast has now integrated ESIC’s Integrity Program into its terms and conditions of participation for all players at their events and has also elected to implement ESIC anti-doping testing at its major events.
DreamHack announced that the festival will return to India for a second consecutive year. NODWIN Gaming and Viacom18 will once again partner to bring DreamHack back to that country with this year’s event titled DreamHack Delhi and held in the national capital of India, New Delhi, on December 6-8, 2019, at the NSIC Exhibition Ground. This year’s edition will feature an array of games ranging from esports game titles like CSGO, Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bro, Tekken 7 and PUBG along with the classic collection of retro and table-top games.
GungHo Online Entertainment announced the TEPPEN World Championship will be taking place on Dec. 21. Sponsored by Amazon, the event will feature a prize pool of 50 million yen (around $500,000). Players from around the world can earn their spot by competing in online qualifiers, starting on Oct. 5.
DreamHack revealed the two largest community tournaments to ever take place at a DreamHack festival — “DreamHack Winter featuring Fortnite” and “DreamHack Anaheim featuring Fortnite.” Both tournaments will dangle a $250,000 prize pool. DreamHack Winter 2019 takes place from Nov. 29-Dec.1, while DreamHack Anaheim, spns Feb. 21-23, 2020.
WorldGaming Network will host the World Electronics Sports Games North American Regional Finals for the second straight year in partnership with Alibaba Sports, with respective winners advancing to the WESG 2019-2020 Grand Final in Chongqing, China in March 2020. Thousands of players across the US and Canada will compete in five events – Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – Women division, Dota 2, StarCraft 2, and eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer (PES). In addition to battling for the opportunity to represent their countries at the WESG Grand Final, players will also be vying for a piece of the $5.5 million global prize pool.

  • While concurrency has declined, content consumption on digital channels has increased: While both Avg. and Peak CCV has decreased year-over-year, Live Hours Watched has increased by 9.50%.
  • Average CCV decrease is minimal: Across all broadcasting streams, Overwatch League’s Avg. CCV has only decreased by 2%.
  • Explaining the decline in peak viewership: Last year’s Peak CCV reached 424,676 during the league’s first week of play, whereas the Season 2 peak occurred last weekend. The year-over-year comparison showed a decline of 34.86% in Peak CCV.

Riot Games announced a multi-year partnership with OPPO to serve as the exclusive official global smartphone partner for League of Legends esports international events: The World Championship, Mid-Season Invitational, and All-Star Event. The multi-year partnership runs through 2024 will begin at 2019 Worlds scheduled to start Oct. 2 in Berlin and conclude on Nov. 10 in Paris. This deal marks OPPO’s first entry into esports. As the exclusive global smartphone partner for League of Legends esports, OPPO will have year-round activations centered around the sport’s three annual global tournaments, including: MVP Presented by OPPO; OPPO Cam; and Welcome to the Rift.
Pringles signed on as a Festival Partner for the upcoming 2019 edition of DreamHack Winter. The partnership is underway as DreamHack launches a landing page featuring a Fan Can Art Competition where fans can download a template to create their own Pringles can design to make their own Pringles can. Pringles will also set up a “Pop, Play, Eat” booth at the DreamHack Winter 2019 expo area, featuring fun activities for fans to participate in.
Meanwhile, Totino’s announced their collaboration with the Call of Duty franchise, ahead of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launch. Users will be able to unlock Call of Duty items inside Modern Warfare with the purchase of participating Totino’s products. In addition, the brand has collaborated with Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, Founder & CEO of 100 Thieves, to co-design the in-game content: a calling card, a watch and a charm. “Totino’s and I worked together to create three in-game items: a custom calling card, a charm, and a watch,” said Nadeshot. “The calling card was my favorite element to create, drawing inspiration from my love of anime. Fans will definitely notice my style throughout all the elements.” Fan can unlock the items inside the game with the purchase of participating products, including Totino’s Pizza Rolls, Mini Snack Bites and Multi-Pack Party Pizza
DreamSeat LLC and its affiliates, Zipchair and Zipchair Gaming, announced a deal with Nerd Street Gamers to name the seating and furniture company as the company’s official gaming chair sponsor. The Zipchair Gaming brand will be the exclusive gaming chair used throughout Nerd Street Gamers’ national network of Localhost esports facilities. The partnership also allows Localhost venues to sell chairs within their facilities nationwide.

TwitchCon 2019 saw Twitch reps reveal multiple facets of news, including 2020 event plans that will see TwitchCon 2020, the European event, run in Amsterdam from May 2-3, while the North American arm returns to San Diego from Sept. 25-27. Meanwhile, new features coming to the platform, included the announcement of Twitch Studio, which a guided setup for new creators that offers easy templates to customize individual channels and launching in November. In addition was the new Creator Dashboard designed to set up Quick Actions while giving newer streamers tips and tricks to make their pages better. In January 2020, Channel Points will be launched, described as “a customizable, channel-specific program for Affiliates and Partners that rewards loyal members.
BlizzCon 2019 opened the doors for its Virtual Ticket, which will carry all of its tournaments, stages and panels in Anaheim this year starting Nov. 1. As usual, the gaming and esports staple will feature two days of “games, esports, cosplay, contests, fellowship, and fun.” The BlizzCon 2019 Virtual Ticket this year costs $49.99 and comes with a slate of commemorative extras including items for World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone, StarCraft II, Heroes of the Storm, and Diablo III, plus more to-be-revealed perks. Content includes access to all of this year’s BlizzCon esports tournaments for free, including the Overwatch World Cup and the culmination of the World of Warcraft Arena World Championship, WoW Mythic Dungeon International, Hearthstone Global Finals, and StarCraft II World Championship Series.
Nielsen continues to crank up esports clients, announcing a deal with ESL and DreamHack for esports sponsorship valuation and media measurement. The new collaboration will focus efforts significantly across four key areas: Brand Impact; Media & Sponsor Valuation; Consumer Analytics; and utilizing standardized metrics for esports viewership measurement and benchmarking. As part of the agreement, Nielsen will provide in-depth measurement around the recently announced ESL Pro Tour; a circuit that connects more than 20 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments and leagues from ESL and DreamHack.

ReKTGlobal locked in Utah Jazz basketball player Rudy Gobert as its newest investor. His involvement with the parent company of Rogue and the London Call of Duty franchise will look to “support the growth and continued global expansion of ReKTGlobal and Rogue” through co-hosted live streams, content, and partnerships.
Evil Geniuses is returning to the North American LCS to compete in the 2020 Spring Split after reporting that its bid had been accepted by Riot Games for the open LCS spot left by Echo Fox. “Part of my experience with PEAK6 (and now, with EG) is knowing that in order to be considered the best, you have to compete where the best are. I could not imagine an EG without a push towards the LCS, and we’re happy to be able to put down roots as a franchise owner,” said Nicole Lapointe Jameson, Evil Geniuses CEO. “We’ve had nothing but a good experience working with Riot, and we’ll be expanding our operations to Los Angeles to accommodate the needs of the new roster. We’re looking forward to the new members of the EG cabal that will make all this possible.”
The NBA 2K League announced that Gen.G will launch an NBA 2K League team from Shanghai that will join the other 22 NBA 2K League teams for the 2020 season. The Shanghai franchise will train at Gen.G’s Los Angeles HQ during the 2020 season and become the first NBA 2K League team outside of North America and the first NBA 2K League team not affiliated with an NBA team. In addition, the pair announced a long-term relationship to grow the NBA 2K League’s global player pool and fanbase.  As part of the terms, Gen.G will collaborate with the NBA 2K League on player development and talent identification in Asia, brand development in Asia, and worldwide esports and gaming programming. Gen.G and Hornets Venom GT, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, will participate in the NBA 2K League Expansion Draft Lottery on Friday.
Dignitas raised $30 million in Series A Preferred Stock as it closes its previously announced merger with Clutch Gaming and to provide expansion capital. The round was led by Dignitas’ controlling shareholders Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment and Fertitta Entertainment, and included new institutional investors Susquehanna Private Equity Investments and global hospitality company Delaware North. With the moves, Dignitas has now formed a new parent company, New Meta Entertainment operating in three primary verticals: esports teams, content and marketing, and investments. Michael Prindiville has been named the CEO of New Meta Entertainment with a focus on three complementary and integrated businesses, including: esports teams, a content and marketing business and an investment arm.
FaZe Clan is partnering with one of the world’s most visible sports brands, aligning with Premier League’s Manchester City Football Club in a new partnership that kicks off at the Manchester City vs. Wolves match on October 6 as City players enter the pitch at the Etihad Stadium wearing exclusive, co-branded Manchester City x FaZe Clan jackets. Through the partnership, the organizations will cement their relationship through multiple initiatives, including a shared training facility, retail, and fan engagement.


Shawn Layden, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, is departing the company. PlayStation announced the news earlier on its official PlayStation twitter account, writing “It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE. Sports network Overtime hired Chris Toussaint, the former manager of NBA 2K team Magic Gaming, as its new head of esports. There, he will focus on building and managing Overtime’s gaming content and its competitive gaming efforts. “It’s rare to find someone 20 years old with as deep experience and connections as Chris,” said Overtime CEO Dan Porter, “but from the first time we met, it was clear that he understood what we were building at Overtime, and we saw in him, the type of visionary who could help take our gaming and esports efforts to the next level.”
Gaming management company Loaded is spreading its wings, revealing the signing of actor, singer/songwriter, dancer, choreographer and musician Jordan Fisher to its roster of gaming talent which includes names such as Ninja, TimTheTatman, Anne Munition, DrLupo, Dakotaz, Cloakzy and more.
