Digital audience specialistcomScore and census-based Rentrak are changing the measurement equation with an agreement to merge.“Together we have an even more powerful ability to deliver what our clients and the media industry have long been asking for: a comprehensive cross-platform measurement currency that accounts for all the ways in which content is consumed," said comScore CEO Serge Matta, who will retain his title at the new company. Rentrak CEO Bill Livek will serve as executive vice chairman and president. Rentrak wil lmerge into a wholly-owned subsidiary of comScore. All too aware of competition nipping at its heels, Nielsen is introducing a new measurement system soon aimed at capturing viewing content across platforms, allowing for the comparison of digital and TV data.

Starz signed Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson to an exclusive overall deal. Under the two-year pact with G Unit Film & Television, Inc., Jackson will develop new projects for the network and continue as executive producer on Power.  “Starz has been the perfect partner to make ‘Power’ the success that it is and I am looking forward to developing many more record-breaking series with them,” said Jackson.

PBS took home 17 Emmys at Monday night’s News and Documentary Emmy Awards, including trophies for Frontline, Independent Lens, POV and Nature. CBS News followed with nine; among its victories: 60 Minutes, 48 Hours and the CBS Evening News. NBC News garnered four awards, with NBC Nightly News winning in the breaking news and regularly scheduled newscast categories. Univision nabbed three investigative wins for Aqui y Ahora. ABC’s Brian Ross and the ABC News investigative team won a lone Emmy for business and economic reporting.

Former President Bill Clinton visits The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, October 6 at 11:35p on CBS, following the conclusion of the 11th Clinton Global Initiative. The former leader of the free world joins previously announced guests Billy Eichner and musical act Florence and the Machine.

E! has renewed WAGS, the reality series about the wives and girlfriends of sports stars, for a second season. "In its freshman debut, WAGS has caught the attention of millions of viewers and become a fan favorite, particularly among young, diverse women,” said E!’s Executive VP of Programming and Development, Jeff Olde. The show’s season one finale airs Tuesday, October 6 at 10p.

Mark Burnett is returning as executive producer of People’s Choice Awards 2016, airing live from LA Wednesday, January 6 at 9p on CBS. “Every year, we set the bar higher on how we can deliver the biggest show that engages fans,” said Burnett. “In my seventh year, we are looking forward to entertaining the fans and engaging them like never before.”

Hallmark Channel announced it will be the national sponsor for Circle of Friends  The Path to Inclusion, a project of Community Partners that creates social inclusion programs for students. The organization focuses on building a community for kids who have special needs as well as decreasing bullying.“After learning more about the number of students who benefit from Circle of Friends’ incredible inclusion programs, we felt compelled to support this cause and help spread the message of acceptance in schools across the country,” said Bill Abbott, president and CEO, Crown Media Family Networks. “This partnership is a natural fit with Hallmark Channel, which prides itself on offering quality, family-friendly entertainment.”
 
Rob Schneider‘s comedy Real Rob is coming to Netflix on December 1, says The Hollywood Reporter. The series blends scripted material with Schneider’s stand-up performances.

Rumer Willis will co-host Paul Mitchell Shall We Dance, one of four ice skating specials in the Colgate Skating Series airing on ABC. The event showcases dancing and skating, enhanced by music and special effects.

PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

Nicki Minaj will executive produce and appear in a new scripted comedy for ABC Family. Based on her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the early 1990’, the show centers on Minaj growing up in Queens and rise to stardom. “This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

Neal Moritz signed an overall pact with Sony Television, covering drama and comedy for network and cable. Mortitz’s production company, Original Film, is already under a long-term deal with Sony for features.  Moritz has brought Chernin Entertainment‘s Pavun Shetty on to head Original’s television division.

NEW SERIES

Family fixer Jo Frost and her Nanny Jo Productions are teaming with UP TV on Jo Frost: Nanny on Tour. The series helps families evolve through all stages of parenting. Based on Frost’s successful international format, production has begun in cities across the U.S.; series premieres in 1Q16.

FYI is shaking up the talk show genre with Kocktails with Khloe, starring Khloe Kardashian. Series debuts Wednesday, December 9 at 10p and will air over eight consecutive Wednesday nights. 

Poker Central unveiled its program lineup, starting October 1, including Premier League Poker; Heads Up Grand Slam; Poker After Dark; Doubles Poker Championship and Face the Ace. “Poker Central is about to super serve the tens of millions of passionate and sophisticated poker fans in the United States and around the world,” said Clint Stinchcomb, CEO “Television and internet have made poker play global and universal, giving rise to a new set of stars outside of Hollywood and traditional sports.”

The lesser-known tales of celebrated outlaws like John Dillinger, Machine Gun Kelly and Al Capone are told in Natural Born Outlaws. New series premieres Wednesday, October 21 at 10p on American Heroes Channel.

Destination America launches The Demon Files on Sunday, November 1 at 10p. Series follows NYPD cop-turned-demonologist Ralph Sarchie as he investigates real-world cases of suspected diabolical activity.

RETURNING SERIES

Bravo Media announced the second season premiere date for Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce: Tuesday, December 1 at 10p.

Destination America‘s fall season kicks off with the return of Ghost Asylum on Friday, October 16 at 9p, as the Tennessee Wraith Chasers investigate supernatural activity. The following week, the TWC join renowned psychic medium Chip Coffey in two-hour special event Exorcism: Live, airing Friday, October 30 at 9p. A Haunting returns for its eighth season on Sunday, November 22 at 10p.

COMING UP

The Georgia peaches are back on Sunday, November 8 at 8p, when The Real Housewives of Atlanta makes its eighth season debut on Bravo. Returning cast members Cynthia Bailey, Kandi Burruss, Kenya Moore, Phaedra Parks and Porsha Williamsare joined by Kim Fields (Facts of Life). Immediately following, at 9p, Untying the Knot makes its sophomore season premiere.

The Weather Channel’s Dead of Winter: The DonnerParty debuts Friday, November 27 at 9p. The 2-hour documentary special recounts the family’s journey to the West in pursuit of the American dream, which turns deadly when they end up trapped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Family Channel celebrates Halloween beginning Monday, October 5 with a nail-biting night of premieres. Gortimer Gibbons’ Life on Normal Street, centering on three young friends who solve paranormal mysteries, debuts at 6:30p. Nowhere Boys, focusing on four high school students forced to band together after an unexplained cosmic event, follows at 7p. Sports and ghouls collide on Monday, October 26 at 6p, when NBA star Shaquille O’Neal makes a special appearance on Gaming Show (In My Parents’ Garage).
Reelz movie expert Leonard Maltin teams with Rotten Tomatoes’ Grae Drake on Fall Movie Preview Review, bowing Saturday, October 17 at 11:30a. The duo take a look at new films playing in theaters this fall, including Steven Spielberg Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, as well as movies available On Demand this fall.

CASTING

Gotham alum Zabryna Guevara has nabbed a role on The Get Down. The Netflix drama debuts in 2016.

Will Yun Lee (Hawaii Five-0) guest stars on the upcoming ABC sitcom Dr. Ken. Series bows Friday, October 2 at 8:30p.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse has joined the cast of the Will Arnett Netflix series Flaked. The show premieres in 2016.

Preschoolers will journey to an enchanted land filled with fairies, elves and magical mishaps in  new animated series, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, premiering Monday, October 5  at 6:30p on Nick Jr. The launch marks the U.S. broadcast debut for the International Emmy Kids Award-winning series created by Astley Baker Davies, the British animation studio behind Peppa Pig.

GLOBAL GOINGS-ON

Keshet International and Telefe have closed a deal to co-develop and co-finance entertainment formats with international appeal. On the heels of KI’s interactive talent format Rising Star and game show Boom!, the goal is to develop two pilots a year for initial broadcast in the creators’ territories, with some projects already underway. KI will retain distribution rights for the resulting properties worldwide.

Incendo has entered into multiple distribution agreements with content leaders Gravitas Ventures, Banijay International, Big Media and Foothill Entertainment. Incendo will bring exclusive programming to the Canadian territory, including Amazon exclusive feature comedy, Addicted to Fresno, Back to the Future retrospective, Back in Time, and Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s follow up to Jersey Shore, The Sorrentinos.

Newcomers FABLife (.8 live plus same day national Nielsen rating) and Crime Watch Daily finished in a dead heat at the top of the rookie standings in the session ending September 20, which marked the initial national ratings for the new first run strips. The third newcomer to the ranks, Crazy Talk (.6), was not far behind.

Dr. Phil (3.1, up 15 percent from the week before) came flying out of the gate for his 14th season premiere, opening up a significant lead on the talkers with the show’s highest rating in 17 weeks. Among W25-54, Phil (1.6 demo rating, up 23%) was also No. 1. Live with Kelly & Michael (2.7, steady) was second in talk, while Ellen DeGeneres (2.3, down 12%) rounded out the top three.

OWN delivered its highest-rated quarter (.39 W25-54, up +30% versus year-ago) and its most-watched quarter in network history (550,000 total viewers) in prime and total day in 3Q15.In prime, OWN ranked as the #18 ad-supported cable network for W25-54 – the network’s highest quarterly rank ever, up 11 spots versus year-ago.

USA was #1 among all networks in 3Q15 among P18-49 (745,000) and P25-54 (805,000) in press prime, with a +12% and +9% lead in the demos respectively. USA was also the #1 entertainment network in P2+ (1.8 million) in press prime. 

AIM TV‘s syndicated television series Raw Travel debuts its third season this weekend in over 140 cities, representing 91% of the U.S. and over 103 million homes. It’s a big growth spurt for the series with almost twice the distribution from its premiere two years ago (up 95 percent) and over 23 percent growth from Season 2.

Lifetime continued to post year-over-year growth among key demographics this summer, registering a +2 percent jump among Total Viewers for 3Q15 versus 3Q14. Among W25-54, the network logged in a +8% increase, while also delivering a +3% gain in A25-54 compared to 3Q14, according to Nielsen.

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries boasted a spike in Nielsen’s September Universe Estimate. On the heels of its recent launch on AT&T U-verse TV, as well as launches and positive repositions on Bright House Networks and with NCTC members, Hallmark M&M’s current universe estimate stands at 62,509,000 homes, representing an increase of 6,506,000 homes (up 11.62%) since last month’s estimate. In 2Q15, the net registered 89% growth among W25-54 in total day delivery over the same period last year and ranked as the 11thhighest-rated cable network in total day among households.

Monday A18-49 Analysis: NBC led with the most A18-49 viewers Monday with 3.0/9, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS topped 8p with 3.8/13 for The Big Bang Theory, while NBC’s second half-hour of The Voice took over the lead at 8:30 with 3.1/10.
