Complaining that Fox News has been treating him unfairly, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump declared via Twitter Wednesday, “I won’t be doing any more Fox shows for the foreseeable future.” What’s Trump’s beef? Fox News attributed the boycott to the net cancelling a scheduled Trump appearance on The O’Reilly Factor. “When coverage doesn’t go his way, he engages in personal attacks on our anchors and hosts, which has grown stale and tiresome,” said the net. “He doesn’t seem to grasp that candidates telling journalists what to ask is not how the media works in this country.”

IN THE NEWS

Taking a break from trashing Fox News, Trump played nice with Late Show’s Stephen Colbert, tweeting, “Wow! What a great night,” of his Tuesday appearance on the CBS late nighter. Colbert would likely agree – Late Show delivered a 3.7 HH rating in overnight markets, the highest since its premiere and up 61 percent from last Tuesday. The Trump Bump was enough to catapult Colbert over NBC’s The Tonight Show (2.8) in HHs; the shows tied among A18-49 with 1.0.

The first guest on the Trevor Noah incarnation of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, launching Monday, September 28, will be actor/comedian Kevin Hart. GOP candidate Gov. Chris Christie shuffles in on Wednesday.

Late night’s not the only daypart going in big on politics. ABC, CBS and NBC have dedicated 504 minutes to campaign news on their nightly newscasts through last Friday, according to a Tyndall Report analysis – the most since measurement started in 1992. Republicans accounted for two-thirds of the coverage, thanks in part to the two debates, while GOP front-runner Donald Trump grabbed 29 percent of coverage himself. The previous high was 462 minutes in 2007.

Two Al-Jazeera journalists were among those who received a presidential pardon on the eve of the Muslim holiday Eid Al-Adha. Canadian Mohamad Fahmy and Egyptian national Baher Mohammed were arrested with Australia’s Peter Greste in December 2013; Greste was later deported and sentenced in abstentia. “It is hard to celebrate … as this whole episode should not have happened in the first place,” said Al-Jazeera acting general director Mostefa Souag. “They’ve lost nearly two years of their lives when they were guilty of nothing except journalism.”

Count Susan Sarandon out of Epix’ first original comedy series Graves, where she was set to star as the wife of a former U.S. President played by Nick Nolte. Epix chalked up the exit to “creative differences”; a replacement will be named “shortly.” Graves got its series order in May.

FX Networks wants more Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, the FX comedy created by and starring Denis Leary. Of the show’s season two renewal, Leary said, “The only thing that could make me happier about this announcement is if David Bowie decided to be a guest star during season two. In which case, my head would explode. Hopefully on-camera so we get a kicka$$ viral video out of it. Not to mention awesome Live+3s.” Your move, Bowie.

CASTING

Tom Payne (Waterloo Road) will recur as Paul Monroe, aka Jesus, in season six of AMC’s The Walking Dead. Zombie drama returns with a 90-minute premiere on Sunday, October 11 at 9p.

ADVERTISING

Simulmedia announced a partnership with TiVo Research that will offer third party validation of TV’s impact on business results. Powered by its VAMOS platform, the marketing tech company guarantees that its TV campaigns will outperform concurrent media in terms of driving business outcomes, with TiVo Research confirming Simulmedia’s performance. “To have [TiVo] review our methodology and approve what we are doing is hugely rewarding for our team of scientists and engineers who have worked painstakingly to develop our VAMOS platform and move TV advertising in a new direction of accountability,” said Dave Morgan, Simulmedia founder and CEO.

To keep its clients’ ads from appearing on piracy sites, WPP’s GroupM is requiring ad networks and exchanges to receive anti-piracy certification from the Trustworthy Accountability Group. “What we see as an industry is that there’s not much differentiation between the fraudulent activity and things like proliferation of malware and the stealing of content through piracy sites,” said Mike Zaneis, CEO of TAG, in AdWeek. “These are all links in a chain of criminal activity that is victimizing the digital advertising supply chain.”

DIGITAL DOINGS

Amazon Studios announced its fall 2015 pilots: Edge, a western from Shane Black and Fred Dekker; Good Girls Revolt, set in a 1969 newsroom; comedy Highston produced bySacha Baron Cohen; Tig Notaro/Diablo Cody/Louis CK dark comedy One Mississippi; political thriller Patriot, andZelda Sayre Fitzgerald bio-series Z starring Christina Ricci. Missing from the list is David E. Kelley legal drama Trial starring Billy Bob Thornton, expected to scoot straight to series.

A show’s pilot doesn’t get viewers hooked, according to new research from Netflix. The streaming service scanned data for 25 popular series to determine at which point viewers were fully committed, and it varied from show to show – there was no turning back from Breaking Bad after just two episodes, while it took eight eps for users to warm up to How I Met Your Mother. But “we found that no one was ever hooked on the pilot,” said Ted Sarandos, chief content office. “This gives us confidence that giving our members all episodes at once is more aligned with how fans are made.”
