Good morning. It’s Friday September 11, 2015, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

Floyd Mayweather’s next fight is set to make history. While the boxer and the USADA spent yesterday denying improprieties over an IV used before his match against Manny Pacquiao, organizers for his bout on Saturday against Andre Berto announced that the card will, for the first time ever, allow fans to watch the Showtime PPV event on their computers and mobile devices via cbs.com/fight. The 8p telecast will see CBS Interactive Advanced Media stream the pay-per-view event to U.S.-based users for $64.99, which includes today’s weigh-in, Countdown Live and the four fight card. With the pay-per-view purchase of the fight online, U.S.-based users will also get a three month free trial of CBS All Access.
 
 

ON THE AIR

Let’s start with ratings. FS1 saw the premier of The Ultimate Fighter: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber rank as the channel’s most-watched season debut on the channel since Rousey’s season in 2013. The episode saw an average of 622,000 viewers tune in for the show’s first airing, while an additional 66,000 viewers watched the encore. Viewership was up 27% over the show’s run during the spring and up 16% over last fall’s edition.
 
Hard Knocks ended with a bang. The HBO series saw its fifth and final episode hand the channel with 894,000 viewers, marking the most watched finale for the series since 2010 and marked the second-most watched premiere this season. The Texans-dedicated season scored an average viewership of 874,000 for Tuesday night premiere episodes.
 
Scott Van Pelt’s take on SportsCenter on Monday handed ESPN with an average of 2,155,000 viewers, according to the company’s Nielsen numbers. The ep debuted following the Ohio State win, and scored a markup of 46% from the SportsCenter that ran following the 2014 Labor Day game. In other ratings news, ESPN reports that it kicked off the 2015 college football season with the most-watched opening weekend college football game ever on ESPN or ABC. Viewership saw 10,585,000 viewers tune into Ohio State/Virginia Tech, while ABC Saturday Night Football pitting Wisconsin/Alabama generated 7,967,000 viewers. Overall, between Thursday, Sept. 3, and Monday, Sept. 7, ESPN televised eight games averaging 3,356,000 viewers, up 27% from the seven games which run during 2014’s opening weekend on the network.
 
NFL Network saw its run of Do Your Job: Bill Belichick and the 2014 Patriots on Wednesday night reel in a .30 US HH rating, according to Nielsen, with an average of 465K total viewers and 290K P18-49. The special now ranks as the channel’s most-watched original programming among P18-49 so far this year. In Boston, the program earned a 4.20 HH ratg in the Boston DMA with 172,000 tuning in.
 
Elsewhere at ESPN, comedian Frank Caliendo inked a new contract extension to remain with the company and will continue to be featured primarily on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown during the 2015 NFL regular season and playoffs.
 
CBS Sports announced that Brad Paisley recorded a customized version of his single Country Nation for the company’s SEC on CBS coverage. The singer also saw a video shoot that will be part of CBS Sports’ broadcasts of Southeastern Conference football throughout the regular-season.

The US Open is handing ESPN with an audience that is “larger, younger and more mobile with more viewing choices than ever before” via data from the first nine days of the tournament. ESPN’s sole coverage averaged 1,218,000 viewers, up 40% over 868,000 a year ago at the same point of the event, with the 18-34 demo up 116%. Meanwhile, yesterday’s rain pushed the women’s semifinals from a prime-time window to Friday morning at 11a on ESPN.
 
Spike and Bellator announced shoulder programming for the Sept. 19 Bellator MMA: Dynamite 1. Specials will include: tonight’s Road to Dynamite 1 at 11:15p and Unrivaled: Tito Ortiz at 12:15a. 
 
Pac-12 Networks locked in plans to showcase 153 live men’s basketball telecasts during the upcoming season, wrapping up with eight Pac-12 Tournament contests from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Each school will be featured at least 12 times with Arizona slated for 15 telecasts, Arizona State (17), Cal (13), Colorado (17), Oregon (16), Oregon State (18), Stanford (13), UCLA (12), USC (22), Utah (14), Washington (15), Washington State (22). The action tips off with the Red-Blue exhibition game of defending Conference champion Arizona on Oct. 17, followed by a week of exhibition matchups spanning Nov. 3-9. Full Court Friday returns on Nov. 13, featuring regular season home openers for nine of the Conference’s 12 programs beginning with Sacramento State/Arizona State.
 
FS1 will carry the 2015 National Women’s Soccer League Championship starting Sunday with a semifinal doubleheader starting at 1:30p with FC Kansas City/Chicago. Jenn Hildreth handles play-by-play, with analyst Kyndra de St. Aubin and sideline reporter Julie Stewart-Binks. Later, at 9:30p, Washington/Seattle square off with Mark Rogondino on the play-by-play call with analysis from Aly Wagner, and sideline reports from Katie Witham at Memorial Stadium’s Moda Pitch in Seattle.The NWSL Championship Game will then be played Thursday, Oct. 1 on the network at 9:30p.

Franklin Sports is launching Official NFL Kid’s Costume Sets ahead of Halloween, which will include a helmet, team jersey and pants and iron-on number kit. Families can customize their jersey with the iron-on number kits with 29 NFL teams available to kids 4-9.
 
Finally, DICK’s Sporting Goods reports that fans in 28 states have a new favorite jersey since the end of last season, according to sales. Odell Beckham Jr. now ranks atop the pack in 5 states including: Connecticut, New Jersey and New York (previously Eli Manning), Delaware (previously Joe Flacco) and Rhode Island (previously Tom Brady). Meanwhile Ryan Kerrigan now leads in Maryland and Virginia, while Jameis Winston has taken over in Florida and and Mississippi while Marcus Mariota has won over the residents of Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee.

The new sentiment analysis for sports details how the nearly 50 million people who like an official NFL team Page are feeling about their franchise. The ATP and Infosys are partnering up to “leverage the latest technological advances in mobility, cloud and analytics to transform the experience of tennis fans and players the world over.” The deal will see Infosys become the Global Technology Services Partner and Platinum Sponsor of the ATP World Tour, as well as the season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, for the next three years with the company set to leverage its expertise in cloud, mobility and analytics to manage, analyze and interpret large volumes of tennis data (both historical and current) and present insights and predictions through interactive platforms for ATP fans, players, partners and the media.
 
Vice Sports is teaming with Mandalay Sports Media for a new digital docuseries that will be produced by Mike Tollin, Mason Gordon and Catlin Callaway. Content will include high-stakes street football leagues in New York City, an underground fighting club and the controversy surrounding Zack Hample, an MLB collector best known for catching the Alex Rodriguez’s 3000th hit earlier this year.
 
PodcastOne is adding a trio of new sports series to its network lineup Name Dropping with Ian Fitzsimmons, Total Soccer Show, and Mohr Sports Los Angeles. Total Soccer Show highlights soccer leagues throughout the world. Mohr Sports Los Angeles with Jay Mohr will launch on Saturday, recapping the week in LA sports, including the Lakers, Dodgers and Clippers. Finally, ESPN Radio’s Ian Fitzsimmons’ series will feature in-depth NFL coverage and interviews.
 
NeuLion announced the delivery of the US Open on CNTV 5+ VIP, China’s digital premium subscription service for live and on-demand global sports events. CNTV 5+ VIP, powered by the NeuLion Digital Platform, offers viewers throughout China the opportunity to experience the tournament across multiple devices via interactive touch points with live stats, multiple camera views, real-time highlights, scores, chat and more.
 
Columbia University’s Sports Management graduate program locked in a deal with OptaPro to offer actual, on-field data for student use. The company serves as a data collectors and providers of soccer, cricket and rugby data around the world.
 
 

FANTASY/GAMING/ESPORTS

 
2K Sports is adding Kenny Smith to its NBA 2K16 ranks, where he will join Ernie Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal on the NBA 2K16 pre-game shows, halftime and post-game shows. The company released a video showing the three TNT personalities behind the microphone in-game.
 
The longest running fantasy digital broadcast, Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football Live, is slated to return on Sunday for its 10th season. Episodes run each week from 11:30a-1p and offer analysis and up-to-the-minute injury reports from Yahoo Sports Fantasy Football experts. New talent for this season includes host Nicole Zaloumis (formerly of NFL AM), former Tennessee Titan Tank Williams and fantasy expert Liz Loza in addition to the returning cast of Brad Evans, Andy Behrens, Brandon Funston, former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Shaun King and Dr. Greg Horner.
